As I posted in the other thread on this topic, no one is an “animal.” No one is irredeemable. No one is without a soul.

[Sorry, I missed the other thread.]

[But, LOLOLOL … defending MS-13!!!]

Chopping people up with machetes … but they are not displaying animal behavior …

Oh, please, I wasn’t defending MS-13. You’ve got to twist my words until they scream to get that out of them.

But, if you insist, even MS-13 members aren’t “animals.”

I am by no means a Trump supporter, but the last thing we need to worry about is whether Trumps calls a bunch of thugs animals. We can agree they are thugs and I am not sure if animal is that much worse than being called a thug.

Yes. It’s just a figure of speech. Interesting, though, how one of Obama’s former aides called Trump a “deranged animal” and nobody cared. But if Trump says it about MS-13, that can’t be tolerated.

Not to mention the media is constantly outraged by anything Trump says,so what else is new?😵

No freaking joke. The hypocrisy is thick enough to stir with a spoon.

Agreed.

I don’t like to see people called animals, no matter which administration the name-caller works in.

And, of course, there’s a world of difference between the president and an aide.

Nowhere near as much as the difference between Trump and anybody who isn’t Trump or a supporter of Trump, regardless who he/she is.

And as between calling MS-13 people “animals” and Obama calling people who opposed Obamacare “tea baggers”, I think the latter is more offensive and far less deserved than the former.

We’ll, you gotta admit he does say a lot of outrageous things, right?

I think that’s a big part of his appeal for a lot of people.

No good comes from dehumanizing others even when that group is a gang or people in jail or folks that are crossing a border without permission.

Look at history and what’s happened when leaders and countries move in this direction. Dehumanizing the other devolves into injustice and violence.

Personally I think it’s an insult to equate animals with those “thugs”…animals kill for food…those “thugs” kill because of their environment and gang mentality…break that cycle and there is always hope of rehabilitation…and while we’re talking about hypocrisy…bet some of you had a good belly laugh hearing and seeing pics of the Obamas depicted as monkeys

Yeah, but … how do you distinguish between really really really bad people [ so called “animals” who use machetes to chop up innocent bystanders ] and those who merely look bad once in a while?

“Just a clump of cells” is also just a figure of speech but the figure of speech helps to dehumanize the fetus to make abortion seem okay. The figure of speech that Trump used is also to dehumanize a subset of human beings. He claims it was about MS13 but this statement along with all of his other statements on immigration can lead people to see all immigrants as animals all to help justify mass deportations. It’s difficult for people to justify separating children from parents but if you portray them as rapists, murderers, and animals than it’s easier to sell his brand of white nationalism.

Possibly his imagination is not as febrile as yours. You absolutely made this up.

Um, have any CAF members besides yours truly seen a 1982 episode of Quincy, M.E. entitled “Baby Rattlesnakes”? Yes, the episode concerned gangs.
