Actually, I disagree with this. Anyone remember any of the Gotti’s kids being expelled? Was that family acting in line with Catholic teaching? As was mentioned concerning a child conceived of a rape, should we blame the child for sins of the parent?

I could possibly accept the diocese position if the parents were some type of activists and were using the enrollment as a statement. But that does not appear to be the case.

"BOULDER, Colo. — A Catholic school in Colorado is kicking out a preschooler because the child’s parents are lesbians.

The child will not be allowed to re-enroll next year at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. The Denver Archdiocese posted a statement Friday that the parents are “living in open discord with Catholic teaching.”

The archdiocese statement:

"A principal reason parents place their children in Archdiocese of Denver Schools is to reinforce the Catholic beliefs and values that the family seeks to live at home. To preserve the mission of our schools, and to respect the faith of wider Catholic community, we expect all families who enroll students to live in accord with Catholic teaching. Our admission policy states clearly, “No person shall be admitted as a student in any Catholic school unless that person and his/her parent(s) subscribe to the school’s philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school and Archdiocese.”

Parents living in open discord with Catholic teaching in areas of faith and morals unfortunately choose by their actions to disqualify their children from enrollment. To allow children in these circumstances to continue in our school would be a cause of confusion for the student in that what they are being taught in school conflicts with what they experience in the home.

We communicated the policy to the couple at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School as soon as we realized the situation. We discussed the reasons with them and have sought to respond in a way that does not abruptly displace the student but at the same time respects the integrity of the Catholic school’s philosophy."

I can see the School’s point of view in this. Regarding what you are saying about Gotti’s children let me ask you this:
  1. Was Gotti convicted of his crimes at the time his kids were in school?
  2. Even if he was, perhaps THAT school MAY have erred in allowing his kids to be enrolled in the school. Certainly we are in uncharted territory as I don’t know how often this takes place.
As for blaming the child for the sins of the parents, the child can get an education anywhere but the school needs to take into consideration the scandal that a lesbian couple would create at any school function.

I have to wonder what the Lesbian’s couples intentions are in sending the child to a Catholic school.

I think this is good news. If it benefits the majority that one child be denied access to the Gospel or other goods that the Church provides, then so be it.

That’s a crock - what exactly do you think the homosexual guardians are going to say the first day the kid comes home with the Gospel message against homosexual activity?

They are not there for the Gospel.

You have to wonder what percentage of children in the school system are Catholic, in the first place. My impression is that the number of Catholics in the Catholic private school system has been falling for a while, and that Catholic schools are increasingly becoming a way of ensuring that children, from a variety of backgrounds, receive a quality education. I wonder what percentage of families are sending their kids to Catholic schools to Catholicize their kids (some are obviously, but I wonder if they can continue to operate schools with that expectation and pay their bills at the same time).

I am also curious if they are going to purge their school of children living with unmarried straight-couples. Children living with divorced and remarried couples. Children whose parents volunteer at the local Planned Parenthood. etc. etc. etc.

Which is precisely why we ought deny the Gospel to the child who, by virtue of his or her “parents,” is nothing more than a proto-apologist for the homosexual lifestyle.

Huh - we do not deny the Gospel. That is ridiculous.

The way to do it is to retake secular society and reinstitute norms, manners and good behavior, to live in witness of Christ. The couple is trying to normalize their behavior in a Catholic institution. That is only because we no longer normalize Catholic behavior in secular society. Years ago they would not be allowed the platform.

I thought the same thing reading this.

We had agnostics, atheists, divorcees, you name it at my school. Alot of the kids were the same way. (well, not divorcees-not alot of high school seniors were divorced)

Should we line parents up and ask them if:
  1. Have you ever had an affair?
  2. Is your marriage valid?
  3. Do you believe in the real presence?
  4. Do you use contraception?
  5. Do you support in any way the choice of abortion?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, please remove your children from school.

And how many schools would close tomorrow?

Ahh - holding the schools hostage to bad behavior. When does it become a money issue?

Are we capable of caring for all sheep and the lost one? Or can God only do this?

**Your statement “deny the Gospel to the child who, by virtue of his or her “parents,” is nothing more than a proto-apologist for the homosexual lifestyle.” is sadly pathetic.

No one is denying the Gospel to the child.**

It is the selfish parents lifestyle that is denying an “Openness to the beauty of life” to this poor, innocent child!
**
"tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law.** They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. (CCC 2357)

Not a hostage to had behavior, but not getting to pick what bad behavior you are going to accept. MOst of the sheep are lost, but this one, who has no say in who his parents are, we choose to leave to the wolves?

My Beloved Brother in Jesus Christ, Beau,

**If you disagree you must be right!

Jesus Loves all of us sinners, but He doesn’t allow us to do whatever we want!
**

"Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Lk 15:7)

The Catechism teaches that parents are the child’s first teachers. Sending you child to a Catholic school is a submission to Catholic teaching. This couple is going to agree with Church teaching? What about the other children? What about my child? How will this affect their Catholicism?

This couple has other options.

I’m all for retaking secular society and re-instituting norms and the like, but the reality is that during this battle for the hearts and minds of the culture, there is bound to be a certain amount of collateral damage. It is our duty as Christians to keep it within acceptable limits, but we should never subscribe to some idealistic fantasy which says that such outcomes can never exist.

I remind you, that there is no organ for the transmission of the Gospel that would not be threatened or corrupted by the presence of this child as long as he or she is being raised by her same-sex parenting duo. Therefore, as long as the Church lacks the authority to tear such a child away from “parents” who are so obviously unacceptable, we ought to resign ourselves to the lesser of two evils and deny this child access to the Gospel so as to safeguard the faith of those in the Christian Communion who can at least exhibit a minimum standard of morality.
