My favorite, and it is soon to be delivered to my house (yay!) is stone. Two types of Jasper are the beads. The cross is the Pardon Cross. For me, this is very powerful because I often pray the rosary for the dead. I went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and their ritual over there is to place stones on top of the graves, as opposed to flowers or other things. So for me, this is the rosary that centers on the pardon for the dead essentially.
Currently, I carry the rosary of the seven sorrows, made from stones from Rwanda, significant because these are directly linked to the genocide that occurred there (the rosary was given to me by Immaculee, the author of Live to Tell.

The second is not the Rosary but a chaplet for the dead that I made last year; I often use it as a Rosary.

I don’t make jewelry, but I made this below. The crucifix (Cross of a Happy Death) is from the Carmelite sisters in Alexandria, South Dakota. The beads were purchased in Rapid City, SD. I added three Miraculous Medals that were given to me by a man I met at the Most Holy Trinity Monastery in Petersham, MA (he asked how many children I had, and he gave me the same number of medals; I remember them in prayer when using this and will give them the medals someday). I was pleased to hear that the mother house of the monastery where I purchased the crucifix is located here in Buffalo, NY, where I recently relocated.

I feel a strong connection to it; but I work on not being attached to it too much.

  • Is it heavy or light? fairly light (but longer than many others, so that might be why it seems light)
  • Does it have a huge or small crucifix? crucifix is 2" tall–it’s very Celtic looking
  • How long have you had it? since 2008
  • How did you obtain it? purchased at a Catholic shop in a mall
  • Do you use it? daily
  • Is there anything special about it? was blessed by Pope Benedict XVI during 2008 trip to US
  • Anything else you might want to add: There is a lot of Irish heritage in my family (though they’re probably all spinning in their graves, as my ancestry is Irish Protestant), but the choice was specifically because of the Irish connection–though despite the very obvious Irish imagery, it was made in Italy

What color is it? it’s multicolored divine twine - greens, blues, yellows (think its called batik)

What type of beads does it have? Metal? Pearls? Wood? Coloured glass? Jade? Onyx? etc. it doesn’t have beads, it’s made out of knots

Is it linked with metal or strings? it’s made out of twine

What medallion does it have? Blessed virgin Mary? St. Fatima? St. Benedict? St. Michael? it doesn’t have any medal…yet

Is it heavy or light? very light =)

Does it have a huge or small crucifix? umm 1 1/2 inch by 1 inch, so medium?

How long have you had it? 3 or 4 years now

How did you obtain it? I sent away for the twine and made it myself

Do you use it? everyday

Is there anything special about it? I recently changed the crucifix to one that I got at the St James cathedral in New Orleans on vacation. It’s a Trinity crucifix.

Anything else you migth want to add - Get a rosary you won’t be afraid to use. That’s what I did, and if I lost it, it won’t hurt too much and if I choose to give it away that’s okay too.

  • Anything else you migth want to add I have another rosary that I really like, Jasper. But, it is heavy. I find I don’t like to use it because it is so heavy. Plus, the stone feels cold to the touch and I don’t really like that either. It is beautiful though.

Im going to buy my first one that I will actually use. I have some very expensive ones that i dont really want to wear down. 🤷

My favorite rosary has pungent, brownish-red Spanish rose-petal beads linked by metal. The medallion has busts of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on one side, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the other. It is a little heavier than a wooden rosary and the crucifix is probably medium-sized. I bought it very inexpensively a couple years ago from an online seller who found it at a thrift shop (it looks antique). I used to use it almost every day but now I’m using a handmade white stone one that I got from the gift shop of a Monastery. I keep it in a beautiful, unique wooden cigar box (aka my “jewelry” box) that I found at a garage sale for 50 cents. I used to keep the rose-petal rosary in my purse, but I didn’t like smelling “old-lady closet” whenever I went to get something out…😃
 
Mine is sterling silver, was blessed by Pope John Paul II and came from the Vatican.
 
My favourite rosary is one I got as a gift.

The beads are made of moonstones, a gem I’ve always loved. For those unfamiliar with the stone, they’re white, semi-translucent with a very ethereal bluish-lavender shimmer and a faint gold/amber glow when the light catches it just right. Beautiful!

The Paters are made of larger stones of lavender jade. The junction is a Miraculous Medal (which was important to me as I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Saint Catherine Labouré and her visions of the Virgin - so much so, I took her name at my confirmation).

It’s a substantial rosary, not light but not oppressively heavy. The crucifix is a medium sized one with a tiny red crystal dangling from the bail (representing a drop of Christ’s blood). The metalwork is silver.

I’ve had it for only a short while, it was bought (in the UK) from someone who makes custom rosaries but doesn’t charge the earth for them.

It’s the most special of my rosaries, not only because it’s the first with proper gemstones, but because it was a gift from my husband who knows how much I love moonstones. A rosary given with love is the most special of all. 🙂
 
I bought mine from an Israeli couple who visited my parish. It was made by Christian families living in the Holy Land, and the beads are olive wood!
