SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME!!! :bigyikes:

I haven’t been Catholic for very long, (less than a year)…I just recently stumbled across a video on youtube of a guy desecrating the HOLY EUCHARIST!

I am having a really hard time with this!
I cried for awhile and then I got REALLY mad!!

How can this happen?
What could make someone be so evil??
Even if you’re NOT Catholic…even if you’re Atheist…you don’t do something this sick!!
You don’t blatantly disrespect the beliefs of another one’s faith!!:crying:
**
Can anyone out there help me to come to terms with this OBVIOUS EVIL that seems to be sweeping our world?!**

I didn’t know that things like this happened!! I guess I’m just naive!

HELP!!

No, it happens quite often. Satanists are especially bad because they use them for their black masses. There is quite a market for consecrated hosts, and the price tag can get pretty high.

This is why Tabernacles need to be secure (I’ve seen some tabernacles that don’t have locks on them, some made out of wood which could easily be broken into with a crowbar) and immovable, or exceptionally difficult to move. This is also why we need to stop with communion in the hand and the use of EMHC’s who are not properly prepared to handle situations where people walk off with hosts. I remember one priest who would literally chase people down and yank them back to him and force him to consume the host in front of him. Communion on the tongue makes it pretty difficult to steal a host. Communion by intinction makes stealing hosts impossible.

I had NO IDEA that this kind of thing happened!!

The youtube story claims that the guy stuck the Host in his mouth and then left the church.

When he got outside, he took IT out of his mouth and placed IT in a sandwich baggie.

There is even a “challenge” to steal as many Consecrated Hosts as possible so that they can publicly desecrate Them. :crying:

What would happen if a person took a consecrated host, didn’t consume it and then was blocked from exiting the church by someone (priest or parishioner). Would there be a legal case for recovering the host from that person by any necessary means or would they be able to allege that it was stolen (back) from them?

There may be some rare exceptions, but I agree this is generally the best course. However, that level of maturity is not always present. Even here at CAF you’ll sometimes come across members who have a destructive attitude toward other faiths.

A look at our own history in the Church shows it’s not just a few teenagers who take this approach. There have been many cases where excessive missionary zeal has led to destruction of Jewish, Muslim, pagan, etc texts, objects, buildings, and even human life.

All you can do is pray that those involved are able in time to turn toward Christ.

Turn it on its head and use it to show how thankful you are that you have been given the gift of believing in God and know that it is wrong to do such a thing. Not everyone believes in God and that will enable them to try and hurt us. Though the harder we show we love God, the harder they will try to hurt us. But in turn that will make us the stronger person as we learn the compassion to love and share God’s Love with all. Amen

What can you do?
Do you feel comfortable in posting a you tube video reply as such back to ‘him’ of how the blessed sacarment is important to you - simply just how its important to you without preaching or anything. Just with love. Just making sure that he can see the video? Though he probably already knows how important the blessed sacrament is and that why he used it to show his message of hate. But use that to show your message of love.

What’s that you say? The desecrator stole the Host by receiving Communion on the TONGUE???

So COTT doesn’t vanquish the despicable act of stealing a Host as so many claim. Interesting.

Anyway, OP, think about this, it is possible that it was not even a consecrated Host. The guy in the video has no way of proving what it was he was desecrating in that video. If it really was Jesus, just think, the entire time this person was desecrating Him, Jesus never stopped loving him. His infinite love and mercy on us is truly infinite! Say a prayer for such people that they will come to see that what they are doing is wrong. Maybe God will even work a Eucharistic Miracle for them. You never know.

I am not a lawyer, (and hopefully one will be along to correct any of my misconceptions) but possession is 9/10 of the law. The visitor could certainly allege theft, but I don’t think a court would give much credence to such a claim in light of the circumstances. Assuming the host was quickly consumed, what monetary value would be assigned to the loss? I think the case would be quickly thrown out.

If the person retained possession, but was then hauled away by police, it could get more interesting. I think a court would hold that the host was freely given to the visitor, despite the second thoughts of the usher afterward. A judge would probably find the visitor’s actions reprehensible, but I don’t think the visitor would be required to return the host.

If the visitor were injured, I suspect the usher or perhaps even the parish would be civilly responsible for dental work or whatever else, unless the visitor was a co-instigator of the violence, and such injury could reasonably be forseen.

“Even the demons believe…”
Very true, When Jesus Healed the sick and drove out the Demons he forbid the Demons to speak because they knew who he was…

which leads me to ask and am sorry to poach the thread

Popular Culture Atheists shouldn’t really believe in the devil and demons becauase for doing so that would mean they believe in God because the demons and devil did believe in God?

Yes, feel horror, for the Passion is happening right before your eyes.

Greetings to the OP.

This post is wonderful. [talking about Rhiannonh’s post, for some reason I cannot post with the orginal post]. I concur with it and I like the idea of turning it on it’s head.

Thanks for posting and taking the time out to do this Rhiannonh.

God Bless.

As I understand it, anyone can buy unconsecrated hosts from religious supply houses by the thousands. Since it’s impossible to tell the difference between a consecrated host from one that isn’t consecrated, wouldn’t that completely devalue any host being offered for sale?

No problem though not everyone will agree quite naturally and hopefully it will inspire the opening poster:)

Remember Christ’s words on the cross:

Jesus:
Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.

So you are saying that because it hasn’t been consecrated - ie made into the body of Jesus Christ, then actually whilst it seems horrifying, the folly is in him for making the video because its meaningless even if aimed to shock. Trouble is most will view the video with shock assuming that the wafer is the body of Christ. And yes anyone can buy wafers in church bookshops etc. And some churches don’t actually use the standard wafer for the Eucharist. Years ago I went to a Roman Catholic Cub Scout Camp - in UK and the priest there used local fresh bread.

And there are people out there who believe that only by reception of communion in the hand can the Eucharist be desecrated.

While you could only do this with someone who has receive it in the hand and has not placed it in their mouths or do you propose that we make everyone open up their mouths to show that they have swallowed it?

Legally speaking I do not think one could recover the Eucharist. You could ask for it back but if they refused then what? If you laid your hands of them you would be guilty of battery and could face both a criminal and civil complaint.

Yes, I was saying that for all we know, it might not even be consecrated. We have no way of knowing. I certainly hope it was not. This person is just out for shock and attention. What a sad life they must have.

Actually, the person you quoted stated he stuck it in him mouth, meaning he received in the hand.

Oops. You are correct. I misunderstood. I stand by my point, though. Either way, he stole it by way of his mouth, not carrying it away in his hand, or putting it in his pocket. What difference would it have made if the priest was the one who put it in his mouth?
