If anyone is finding despair in news like this about Bishops, Archbishops and even Cardinals, I will offer something I was recently told by a pretty inteligent man.

Christ allowed Judas among his crew, knowing full and well what he would do. He had an important role to play. The Church is the Bride of Christ. If their are traitors among us, especially in high ranking positions, it may be that they have a very important role to play in the events to come.

yes, judas had an important role to play, but he was not allowed to teach the Faith. this is the difference.

Very well said. Thank you. Thanks to that intelligent man too.

(BTW, to wisdomseeker:
Jesus taught - His followers LEARNED from Him.
During those days, Judas held the money -
as do bishops for their dioceses.
I can see a valid comparison.)

Now in defense of Georgia and its Catholics.
Pro-life Catholics in GA have begun a righteous campaign against abortion.

I am in the Savannah Diocese, and I’ve had the opportunity to meet Bishop Boland and hear him speak on a few occasions. On his last visit to our parish, he spoke about the controversies plaguing the church and urged us to focus on substance rather than style. (That is my paraphrase, not his wording.) I give him the benefit of the doubt in assuming that is what’s happening here. It’s good to be trusted, better to be trustworthy - likewise it’s good to look like you hate the sin and love the sinner, but better (and often more complicated) to actually do it.

At worst, he’s gone too far in the name of ecumenism. That would still be less embarrassing than the hyperventilating tone of the linked article. “Wolf in sheep’s clothing”? As someone whose conversion is fruit borne in this diocese under his leadership, I just don’t see it.

and what did he mean by focus on substance and not style?

hold the money? is it what Jesus commanded His disciples to do? what in the world are you talking about?

for and for most the successors of the Apostles are to guard the Faith. tell me what good does it do if people accomplish social works and forget about the Faith? can we accomplish anything with out God?

the first commandment has been forgotten. i know it. i for one, been going to Church for a long time, i cannot remember one time hearing this commandment. it is all about being good to each other. guess what, people still are not good to each other. it seems as the time goes by, people are becoming more and more nasty to each other. gee, i wonder why that is.

I am confused as to what the bishop supposedly did wrong. He attended a religious ceremony of another faith. I don’t know of any rule against him doing that. On top of that, it was an Episcopal ceremony, not some radical new age pseudo-Christian cult. Don’t see what the big deal is.

Many folks on this forum thinks that the Episcopal Church *is *a “radical new age pseudo-Christian cult.” In their defense, maybe they watched the first few minutes of the consecration of Bishop +Glasspool, as I did, and failed to find anything distinctively Christian about it.

"Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said: ‘Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?’ Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried the things that were put therein." (John 12:4-6)

As one of the twelve, still learning all that Jesus taught - not teaching about it -
the job of holding the common purse fell to Judas. This is common knowledge.

the reason you think this way is because you are not in the True Church. there is such a thing is heretics in our world today just like in the past. Catholic bishops like Catholics are not to participate in ceremonies of any of these other religion. it is forbidden. just because this bishop decided to do this, it does not mean he is doing the right thing. he is not. we are not all in the same religion like so many ecumaniacs are trying to show. protestants wants us to believe that there is no diference between Catholics and protestants. that is a lie from the devil to undermine Christ’s Church. it wont work. God protects His Church from all heresies.

You might want to take a glance at the catechism regarding ecumenism.
A bishop attended an Espicopalian function as an invited guest.
He wore no liturgical robes and took no actual part in the function.
He attended as a Bishop of the CATHOLIC Church.

See: scborromeo.org/ccc/p123a9p3.htm

from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

818 "However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . . . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church."272

819 "Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth"273 are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: "the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements."274 Christ’s Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him,275 and are in themselves calls to "Catholic unity."276

838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist."324

The Apostles’ mission

858 Jesus is the Father’s Emissary. From the beginning of his ministry, he "called to him those whom he desired; . . . . And he appointed twelve, whom also he named apostles, to be with him, and to be sent out to preach."368 From then on, they would also be his “emissaries” (Greek apostoloi). In them, Christ continues his own mission: "As the Father has sent me, even so I send you."369 The apostles’ ministry is the continuation of his mission; Jesus said to the Twelve: "he who receives you receives me."370

The bishops - successors of the apostles

861 "In order that the mission entrusted to them might be continued after their death, [the apostles] consigned, by will and testament, as it were, to their immediate collaborators the duty of completing and consolidating the work they had begun, urging them to tend to the whole flock, in which the Holy Spirit had appointed them to shepherd the Church of God. They accordingly designated such men and then made the ruling that likewise on their death other proven men should take over their ministry."374

862 "Just as the office which the Lord confided to Peter alone, as first of the apostles, destined to be transmitted to his successors, is a permanent one, so also endures the office, which the apostles received, of shepherding the Church, a charge destined to be exercised without interruption by the sacred order of bishops."375 Hence the Church teaches that "the bishops have by divine institution taken the place of the apostles as pastors of the Church, in such wise that whoever listens to them is listening to Christ and whoever despises them despises Christ and him who sent Christ."376

The apostolate

863 The whole Church is apostolic, in that she remains, through the successors of St. Peter and the other apostles, in communion of faith and life with her origin: and in that she is “sent out” into the whole world. All members of the Church share in this mission, though in various ways. “The Christian vocation is, of its nature, a vocation to the apostolate as well.” Indeed, we call an apostolate “every activity of the Mystical Body” that aims "to spread the Kingdom of Christ over all the earth."377

864 “Christ, sent by the Father, is the source of the Church’s whole apostolate”; thus the fruitfulness of apostolate for ordained ministers as well as for lay people clearly depends on their vital union with Christ.378 In keeping with their vocations, the demands of the times and the various gifts of the Holy Spirit, the apostolate assumes the most varied forms. But charity, drawn from the Eucharist above all, is always "as it were, the soul of the whole apostolate."379
Code:
Despite what might be good intentions, we are not free to define the duties of a bishop.

The Church defines those duties. The duties include ecumenical outreach.
It is clear to me that the work of the Church in GA is the work of Christ.

re the youtube clip:
Should Catholics Regularly Attend Protestant Churches?

Are you suggesting that Bishop Boland “regularly attends Protestant” services.
I’m sure that he does NOT do so.
this bishop is not to be a part of such thing. not just regularly, it is not to participate any time. the Cardinal did not want to be seeing as a dictator. but we know we are not to be part of a worship that is false. this is a no brainer. a bishop is to be an example to Catholics. he is not being a example here. if he is doing this, he is okeying for Cahtolics to also do it. but as you can see it, it is not ok to do so.

the bishops in America already came forward and stablished that a Catholic is not to marry anyone outside the Faith. this alone should tell us what we are to do.
it was so in the past, it is so today. many modernists in the Church try to say different, that the Church has changed. it did not. learn to discern.

Your “opinion” proves nothing. It is your opinion, nothing more.
Please STUDY the Cartechism, prayerfully.

Now, I’m off to work.
