The Archdiocese of Detroit announced today a campaign to raise $135 million over the next five years.

The effort is named Changing Lives Together and will involve all 270 Catholic parishes in metro Detroit.

The Archdiocese said that 70% of the funds raised will go towards priorities set by individual parishes.

“The remaining 30% will be used to assist Catholic families in attaining Catholic education; strengthen parish-based ministries in the city of Detroit; fund the training of priests, deacons and lay ministers; and to cover campaign costs,” the Archdiocese said in a statement today.

I was surprised that the Freep put that in. It’s not exactly news.

The Archdiocese is started phase II of a multi phase fundraising effort to help parishes retire any debt they have.

Phase I was 8 parishes, phase II will be the next set of parishes, and so on…

As the article stated, most (70%) of the funding will be used within the parish, with the remaining going to the Archdiocese to assist with diocesan projects ( such as scholarships and support of the seminary)
