There’s enough of this ugliness in that part of the world, that I wonder if we don’t need some basic immigration controls to resist it’s spread here. Perhaps immigrants need to affirm some cultural compatibility before being granted immigration privileges. Some questions like:
1 - Do you believe in religious freedom defined as the ability to follow your conscience and join or leave religious communities depending on what you believe to be the truth?
2 - Does your faith or sense of honor require you to kill a family member whose actions bring shame on the family or him or herself?
3 - Should a woman have the right to divorce a husband who is abusive to her and have the right to protection against him from the police powers of the state?
4 - Should women receive the same educational, recreational and career opportunities as men under the laws and regulations of a country?
5 - Should laws be enacted that prohibit the publishing of criticisms of any or all specific religions or religious figures of history?
6 - Should the laws of a nation require compliance with ALL of the moral commands of any particular religion?
IMO, answers of N, N, N, N, Y, Y should trigger a serious review and probably rejection of that candidate for immigration. Sure, some will lie and hide their real convictions, but probably not the ones so gung ho as to actually sign on for terrorism.
I wonder how the Detroit Chaldean community gets along with the Detroit muslim community? The answer should be instructive in terms of whether the above is actually needed.
