Detroit’s Fr. Solanus Casey beatified by Pope Francis

For those who might not be familiar with Father Solanus Casey.

Many people I know, family and friends. Have a special devotion for this humble priest. Many folks from around Detroit would come to the father who I believe did not hear confession, and talk about their troubles. One story told to me involved a woman who’s husband was dying in Mount Carmel Hospital. She asked Father Solanus to pray that her husband had a peaceful death. She later returned full of joy and told the priest how when she went to visit her husband he was happier than she had seen him in a long time. Joking and telling stories. He died in his sleep that night as the story goes.

This is wonderful news. I was unaware that his beatification was close at hand. I have had a devotion to him for quite a number of years, and I especially thank him for his intercession to our Lord for me back in 2007 when I was having a very difficult time recovering from the effects of two surgeries.

Holy cards of Fr. Solanus are available for a donation from his Guild in Detroit. If you have a devotion to him, send for a package of his holy cards and pass them out to your friends and fellow parishioners. The contact information for the Guild can be found via a Google search.

Blessed Fr. Solanus Casey, pray for us.

What wonderful news! I first heard about Fr. Solanus on a segment of the TV show “Unsolved Mysteries” back 20 years ago where they detailed miracles associated with him.

I recall reading a book on Fr. Solanus - he had incredible humility and patience.

Do you remember the title, by chance?
One that I have is “Meet Solanus Casey” by Brother Leo Wollenweber. OFM, Cap. I have met Brother Leo and he knew Solanus personally. There are other great book too and I think one is titled, “Thank God Before You Ask.” I have them but not handy. I will look in my bookshelves for more!! God Bless, Memaw
