Is there going to be an extra Tridentine Mass at St. Josaphat next week? The website shows a Mass scheduled for November 2nd.

This Sunday, October 28, will be the first Fourth Sunday Noon Tridentine Mass at St. Joseph Church in Detroit, off Gratiot at I-75. It will be followed by a Halloween Party for children in the Social Hall.

On November 1, there will be the usual Holy Day Mass for All Saints Day at St. Josaphat at 7:00 PM.

On November 2, a Solemn High Requiem Mass will be held at St. Josaphat at 7:00 PM for All Souls Day. The celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Bloomfield; the Deacon will be Deacon Richard Bloomfield; and the Subdeacon will be Fr. Peter Hrytsyk. Absolution at the Catafalque will follow Mass. If you have never seen a Tridentine funeral Mass, this is very close to the format of one.

This occasion should afford many their first opportunity to see black vestments and to hear the Dies Irae. This is the first such Mass that we have had at St. Josaphat since the return of the Tridentine Mass there, correct?

Yes, this will be the first Requiem Mass to be celebrated at St. Josaphat since the Tridentine Mass began there in 2004. Yes, we have a set a solemn black vestments.

There have been a few Requiem Masses in Windsor, the most recent just a few weeks ago.

I am only aware of TLM in Detroit area at St. Josaphat’s and Assumption Grotto. Not counting Windsor’s TLM is there any others in Detroit area?

Is there a list that will be put out? By the Archdiocese?

A reminder that the Extraordinary Form of the Mass is held at 12 Noon on the Fourth Sunday of the month at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Detroit (clustered with St. Josaphat)

Does anyone know of any Midnight Masses that will be offered according to the extrodinary form this Christmas in the AOD?

Yes - St. Joseph Church will be holding an Extraordinary Form Christmas midnight Mass with orchestra.

Thanks.

Does anyone know of any place that will be having a TLM Midnight Mass that will not be orchestral?

Also, will St. Josaphat be having a TLM for the Immaculate Conception? If so, at what time.

St. Josaphat will have a TLM for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9:30 AM. This is a departure from the usual 7:00 PM time for Holy Day Masses.

Also note that if you go to www.stjosaphatchurch.org, there is usually a link for the schedule of Masses for the next several weeks. Presently the link is called “Cluster Advent Calendar.”

Thanks.

Assumption Grotto will be having a Tridentine at the Midnight Mass, but it too will be orchestral. It is traditionally with Orchestra at Grotto, with our Pastor, Rev. Eduard Perrone conducting.

My senses tell me he would love to be celebrating at the same time, but bi-location is not one of his specialites.

Does anyone know what mass attendance at St Josaphat is like ? According to there website they’ve added Latin classes.

I would like to ask everyone in the Detroit area who is currently attending or has attended the Tridentine Mass at St. Josaphat to share their personal feelings about how the mass has been doing so far since October 3, 2004 and if they’ve felt anything special spiritually.
Also if anyone feels that it would be good to have the Tridentine indult in another church in addition to St. Josaphat, to share their feelings.
I was there about a year ago and the Mass was very nice. Confessions were heard before Mass. The church was about half full.(big church). Detroit is big enough that there could be two Tridentine Masses in the area. I would like to see one to the south, in the Toledo, Ohio area.

A number of events are happening in the next few weeks:

Wednesday, February 7: Solemn High Mass for Ash Wednesday at St. Josaphat Church at 7:00 PM. We have been informed that most if not all of the seminarians from Orchard Lake’s Ss. Cyril & Methodius Seminary will be in attendance. That will be an excellent opportunity to expose future priests to the beauty of the traditional liturgy.

Saturday, February 9: Workshop on the Tridentine Mass, sponsored by the Newman Club of the University of Windsor. An introduction to the Extraordinary Form, its history, music, and how to follow it. The talk is at 9:00 AM in Winclare Room A in Vanier Hall. Refreshments served beginning at 8:30 AM. Sung Mass follows at neighboring Assumption Church. Park in the lot adjacent to Assumption Church. A downloadable brochure is here. Admission is $10 for adults, $15 for families; University of Windsor students free with ID.

Sunday, February 17: At noon, there will be a one-time-only sung Tridentine Mass at St. Albertus Church on Canfield Ave., approximately one half mile east of I-75. This is a rare opportunity to see the inside of this historic church, which is no longer a parish, but which still hosts Masses once or twice per month.

I believe there are now at least 2 places in the Archdiocese that have Extraordinary Form Mass.

St Josaphat
Assumption Grotto (Both Daily and Sunday)

Also I think St C&M was looking into having one weekly.

Perhaps the closest Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form to Toledo would be St. Stephen in New Boston (Sundays at 2:00 PM and Thursdays at 7:00 PM).

That is correct. SS C&M is looking to have a weeklyt EF Mass as soon as the parish renovation is complete ( the rededication of the altar is scheduled for Feb 17, so the EF should start shortly after than.

It will be a 6:00pm Saturday Vigil Mass.

That Mass has been our “Sunday” Latin NO Mass. There will also be a Latin NO Mass on Weds at 9:00am

St. Stephen’s in New Boston (SW of Metro Airport) has a 2:00 Mass (TLM) weekly on Sunday. This is especially nice for those of us with children who must drive some distance to Mass! It took 15 minutes off my drive-time.👍
