In my family small sausages wrapped in bacon are called “devils on horseback”. They look neither like devils or anything else on horseback!

Make two cakes as a metaphor: one with Devil’s Food Cake and the other an Angel Cake. Of course, then you have to struggle with the free will decision of choosing which cake to eat. 🙂
Is it a bad sign if I prefer the rich decadent chocolate of devil’s food cake to the fluffy light airiness of angel food cake? 🤷:p:D

At the winery where I work, we sell a cheese called “Queso del Diablo” (Devil’s cheese) because it’s made with ghost chile from India (which makes habanero peppers seem like bell peppers!) Our cheesemaker puts 16 oz. of ghost chile powder per 100 lbs. of cheese to make it (we have a “milder” one that has 8 oz. ghost chile per 100 lbs. cheese.)

Both have been known to bring people to their knees and beg God for mercy and relief! 😃
Wow!

I hope this isn’t bearing false witness, but this was this poster’s first post on CAF. Anyone think it might be a prank?

If it is not, I sincerely apologize for doubting you, Spudbynight.

I hope the OP is in fact joking, because the responses are most uncharitable.

It’s all over for you. The flames of perdition await. And if there’s a Harry Potter endorsement on the front of the cake box or some kind of free toy giveaway, you’re doubly doomed.😃

And for the record, I prefer the chocolate cake too.

This was a serious question but not something I was going to lose sleep over either way.

I don’t come across Devil’s Food Cake on any sort of regular basis and that was just an example for anyone who wasn’t familiar with the sort of hot sauces available.

I live in Brighton in the UK and we have a local producer that sells a range of hot products like the following :

Satan’s ****

My wife is of the opinion that it probably was best not to have this sort of stuff in the house. I was wondering where you might draw the line.

The responses from some people on this thread are more than a little bit disappointing. I certainly would have expected more from other Catholics. I don’t think I will be posting again.

I’m sorry you didn’t get a serious answer. Here is my serious answer.

I think it’s perfectly fine to eat stuff with names like “Devil’s” eggs, etc. Why? I can’t say I know the history of how the names came about. But I’m pretty sure the makers probably don’t believe in a literal devil and there is nothing Satanic about them.

Because devil is often used interchangeably with Satan and Lucifer and if we look a the St Michael’s prayer which prays for protection against Satan, Satan is nothing to joke at.

I was sharing with a friend that there is a brand of shoes called “Demonia”. I like some of their stuff, but it has crossed my mind that wearing stuff that says “demon” is probably not the best thing.

So it may seem like a trivial question, but I commend your wife for thinking about it on that level.

However, tell her not to obsess over it. The world is so saturated with language and signs that one can in fact, fall into scrupulosity in trying to avoid offensive things.

Tell her to be at peace.

There is no need for her to avoid all those delicious things. 🙂

However, the stuff in your link with all the profanity – that I would avoid. Your family would act as a bad witness if someone came to your house and saw that.

Having said all this, if your post is nothing but a very smart spammy technique to include that link, kudos to you for getting all these eyes to look at your post.

May your thread be removed quickly.
