Please mention a non-Catholic religion and one or two things about it that you feel are the most troublesome…

Considering all the ones that adhere to OSAS…

Believing you are saved no matter what you do is the worst of the worst beliefs… because it leads to a person being sloppy about keeping the words of Christ… and then such sloppiness leads to apathy about Christianity in general… which leads to sin…which leads to Hell…

What is the purpose of this thread?

I could be wrong, but as I see it it is an excuse to try and get catholics together and discuss protestants. It will slowly resort to a bad-mouthing of protestants etc.

I have seen this happen on the protestant side too.

What fruit does such a self-serving thread bring?

the fundamental difference between the teaching of the reformers and that of the Catholic Church that I see, and my background is preparing non-Catholics of various faiths to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, is their starting point on the nature of man, creation, original sin and grace. Luther and Calvin and their immediated followers, and the sects they founded begin with the basis that man is created inherently bad, is evil in nature and cannot be entirely cleansed from evil, but only have the evil covered by the merits of Jesus Christ. Whereas the Catholic teaching is that man is created inherently good, comes into the world stained by original sin, from which he is cleansed by baptism and restored to grace. From this fundamental error, as far as I can see, spring the other errors in regard to predestination, salvation and so forth.

people see waht they want to see, generally speaking…

I don’t see how you can come up with this…

I was just wondering waht people thought of the inauguration… and i should have mentioned that thing with Ted Kennedy because it is interesting that attnetion was focused on him… the way it was … considering he is the (probably) 2nd most pro-abortion senator after Barack… in the nation…

i didn’t see the whole thing so was wondering what i might have missed…

I believe the biggest difference that saddens me about our seperated bretren is there distance from, and unbelief of, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

Peace!😦

about my last post…

Sorry… i was thinking i had gone to the post about the inauguration…

so i am getting old… What can i say?? :whacky:

do you think that’s a bigger problem than beliving anything they do is OK or not so bad because they are saved anyway?

i mean, this causes people to sin against one another, not to mention against God…

It is possible to not believe in the Eucharist (as we Catholics do) and yet still believe in Scripture and be a fairly good Crhistian, don’t you think?

Of course, Jesus knew how weak we are… and so gave us the Eucharist… i sometimes think that’s the only thing that’s saving me…

LOL I was wondering 😃

God Bless
as to a response…

I don’t like causing strife between brethren… I was just curious as to what others thought about this issue… because it can help unite, i believe…

well… its a long story what i mean by that…

anyway, i feel this discussion can help us sift through our thoughts on the matter &… maybe weed out what is not so importnat…

Humanity has always sinned against no matter what there beliefs wheter it be OSAS or true belief in the real presence. I don’t see this changing anytime soon. What is troublesome for me is that everyone seeking God - Catholic or not - is able to sit, kneel, stand, lay - in front of God everyday all over the world but most choose not to. (for whatever reason) I believe that when I take communion at Mass I partake of Christs one time sacrifice on the cross. When I pray in front the host during adoration, Christ is before me in Body, Blood, Soul, & Divinity. Jesus is still amoung us yet we (myself included) we get all hung up on everyday things and drive right by Christ while on our way to the mall.

Sorry for rambling.

Bottom line is that the Eucharist is the centre of the Church so when it is neglected, forgotten about, or simple not believed to be true is most troublesome for me.

Peace!👍

i totally agree… and loved reading this…

i also find it hard to accept that very few Catholics (in my world) do not sit before the Blessed Sacrament or if they do, its never for long… True, it is difficult to sit b4 the unexposed Sacrament because… well, its a purification thing & that is sometimes extremely u/comfortable… but we have to go through that some day if we want to get to Heaven… so i say, Why not today??

there is a scirpture about storing wrath for the day of wrath… I feel that if we don’t spend time with Jesus like that on a frequent basis… we are storing up far more than we may be able to deal with after death… I could be wrong about this… but you know, at Fatima Mary said that souls are falling into Hell like snowflakes…

and that was 1917!!!

How much worse are things NOw???😦

Are you then heartened with the knowledge that many of us - Lutheran and Anglican in particular - share with you a strong belief in the real and substantial presence?

i think sola fide and sola scriptura, just check the number of threads on this subject and you’ll be convinced of the many confusion they created.😃
God bless.

As a convert, I would have to say OSAS is loaded with problems in life, let alone in doctrine.

It leads to apathy. I am from a tradition that is strong in OSAS and that is the dominant belief around my home town.

People I have known all my life set foot in church only for funerals and for the occasional wedding. If asked why, they would say they say no need to get dressed up, and that is pretty much required for church there, and would say they were saved as children. The matter was settled when they were 10 or 12 years old and nothing can change it. Why go to the trouble of going to church when the issue of salvation has been set in stone.

Obituaries there regularly feature the following boilerplate sentence: He was of the _________ faith. That translates to “We have no idea when the last time was that he showed up at at church, but he was raised _________.”

It leads to some things that are almost tragically funny. I well remember preachers getting into trouble with adultery. When the scandals hit, they promptly forgave themselves, announced they had “asked the Lord to forgive them” and went on. There was no sense that it could be damning to the soul. We could do any sin and believed all we had to do was to say a prayer asking the Lord to forgive us and it was all wiped clean. No act of contrition was necessary.

You must always remember that God is merciful. He sees into your mind and your heart - He knows you love him, He knows how sorry you are, He knows you will continue to try harder, and because of his great love he will embrace and forgive you - guaranteed!

P S Prodigal Son -

Your last remark about the Eucharist. I am on another thread where some Protestants (one in particular) pooh pooh’s the Eucharist “that little pirce of bread” “that wafer” and it* hurts* very much. His postings are like a red flag to me and I sometimes get very irate.

I would have to say that for me the most problematic teaching of the non-Catholic religions is their belief that the Eucharist is just symbolic. That it is not the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There are many other things that I don’t like but the Eucharist is the most Sacred gift we have which we love and cherish.

God Bless you
Cinette:)

I don’t know enough about individual NC-Christian religions to comment on particular beliefs but the most troublesome belief - and the root of the other troubles is - Sola Scriptura - and the - Private Interpretation Thereof.
