The other day I came out of a safeway, and there was a gentleman at the door handing out some sort of flyer…he handed me two. I briefly looked down and it said ‘Dianetics’ in large print, and had a see-thru image of the human head, with electrical stuff goin’ on inside of it…

We have a technology mueseum downtown, and they do shows on ‘Exploration of the human mind’ so I shrugged it off as one of those types of things…

Get to the car, I read it a little big, they are in fact- 2 free tickets to a movie- again, I’m still thinking some type of scientific body, brain…thing…LOL…

The address at the bottom, is not the technology muesuem, though, but it read: Scientific Research Foundation, with an address. Still sounds pretty interesting to me…but one part catches me off gaurd, it says ‘Dont have what you want in life? Feel insecure? Want to change things out of your control? Dianetics is the scientifically proven way to learn how your brain works, and use it to control your fears, insecurities, etc etc.’

Something about that just was odd to me, so I picked up the other ticket, which was slightly different…the difference being at the bottom, the address was the same- but it said ‘Church of Scientology’ on top.

I must say though, I’m a little tempted to go. Scientologists are a complete MYSTERY to me…I been to their website, it doesnt say too much…I know they do some sort of ‘spiritual audit’ but what does that consist of?? Its like, you have to pay to find out more of whatever it is they believe…

Just wondering, I know the guy who came up with scientology was a sci fi writer, but IS there any SCIENCE to it???

Meaning, for them to put this off as well as they do as ‘science’ do they have any ACTUAL scientists who cooberate (<- LOL) their concepts of ‘Dianetics’?? Were these theories or what have you, around before the guy who created the religion? Or did it come about to SUPPORT the religion??
 
I don’t feel particularly bad about being uncharitable regarding Scientology. Don’t waste your time, its a cult. The Germans had the right idea when they wanted to kick them out or get rid of their tax exempt status.
 
ahha…yeah I’ve come to that conclusion as well from my own, totally uninformed assumptions but just for my own education…idk I’m interested…

I’ve also noticed that when your trying to tell someone somethings bad, and all you can come up with is ‘Its a cult’ with no explanation of why…lol…your concern kinda goes in one ear and out the other…

Hey Charlotte…u from San Jose huh? The 408 next to your name gave it away! Hey listen, other members on this forum will probably give you more detailed, better explanations on why not to go but all I can say is stay as far away from that cult as you can!! Really, don’t get pulled into that garbage. When they pass out that trash to me I tell them no thanks I’m Catholic…they cringe!

And I always shoot that to people, ‘No thanks, I’m catholic’ but in this case- I thought it was for the tech museum downtown! LOL… and of course I wouldnt of wasted my time going and givin’ them back…

I think the part that made me think twice, the ‘Control your fears, insecurities, things happening in your life’ part- I think that made me think twice because WE are not the ones in control…I know that…anytime someone trys to sell me something thats ‘unlocking the key to the universe’, if the answer isnt simply ‘God’ then I know its bull.

Dianetics was the title to one of L. Ron Hubbard books. It was marketed as a self help book. alot of far out ideas. I was given a copy along time ago and read the first chapter, came to the conclusion that this was garbage and tosted it away in the trash.
 
Isn’t Dianetics where you have to wear tinfoil on your head and if you stray or question they send someone to your home to reset the microchip in your brain?

Why would you be so interested by a waco cult invented in the 1950’s by a man who so famously said “if a man wants to be a millionair, he should start his own religion”. Do your self a favor and move on.

And what constitutes a ‘cult’ anyways?? Like, why are they a cult? Do they drink poison from little paper cups whenever a comet comes by?? LOL…I’m serious!!! Some people think Jehovahs witnesses are cults…I dont know of any thing crazy they do…why arent they just ‘another religion’??

You guys gotta give me something solid to work with here I cant just pass it off as a ‘cult’ with no reason why…

When Christ started Christianity, and people started with the Eucharist, I’m sure some people thought that was ‘cultish’…jus sayin’…I cant just come out condemning it, I’m not trying to get INVOLVED with it, but for me to effectively argue against it, ya’ll gotta give me something to work with…

OK, would you believe:

billions of years ago, an evil ruler took over control of the galaxy (universe?) and a civil war brook out. That this ruler was victorious, and that he froze his alien opponents in ice. Then in a big spaceship which resembled a C-4 cargo plane, flew to earth and dropped them into a volcano on earth. Further, that the ghosts of these dead aliens still rome the earth, and attach them selves to your spirit, and that if you want to be happy and truely free you need to pay their organization several hundred thousand dollars to

You forgot the part about how they don’t tell you all the most outlandish stuff until you’ve reached one of their upper “levels” and handed over all your money.

My son found some videos on Youtube where some people went to a Scientology convention and they were demonstrating mind control methods by shouting at an ashtray, “STAND UP! SIT DOWN!” over and over. No kidding. Do a search for Scientology on Youtube and you should get a taste of the wackiness.

Oh, and they also have a paramilitary division called Sea Org where you basically sell yourself into slavery for 1,000 years. Fun stuff. :rolleyes:
 
One question worth asking the OP is,

from what perspective were you curious about them? Were you approching this from the perspective that it might be a valid science (I could understand this given your post). If so, then it’s worth noting that even though they claim to be compatible with Christianity (they are not) they do in fact claim to be a religion. As such, the deeper one goes, the more likely they are to dump their legitimate faith in God.

I hope you weren’t too offended by the answers, but scientology is truely a cult and truely that crazy. One is best to avoid them, particularly if they charish their Christian faith as I know you do. Peace be with you,

EXACTLY where I’m getting at…they put Dianetics in this way, that it was some describing some scientifical wiring, how the brain works…

so is dianetics something scientologists came up with to support their religion, or is there ANY science to it??

Or if I go to this movie premiere, are they going to say these alien spirits are the ones making my brain work?? LOL, cause I’d walk out I’m sure it wont say that…

L Ron Hubbard is both the author of Dianetics and founder of Scientology. I believe his religion is based in the concepts found in Dianetics, which is why it serves are the scientologist bible. There is no genuine science involved with “Scientology”, it is exactly what has been described to you. The have invented a gadget called an “e-reader” which has a bunch of dials and meters on it, when you touch it they start fliping all over the place and they say

“Oooooh, my… It looks like you need some counciling sessions, you have a lot of spirits attached to you”. After which you are supposed to shell out an ever increasing amount of money for such sessions.
 
Yes, they’re a brainwashing, life-controlling cult. You won’t get to make your own choices, etc… I saw a documentary on them, I’m pretty sure they’re demons or something!
 
They are sick people who need lots, and lots of help…both spirtual and otherwise!

“Body thetans” - I think that is the name for the things that attach to you that you need to try to get rid of.

I personally would not go anywhere near a gathering of Scientologists. I saw video footage of some guys who encountered a gathering of them in the street, asked them some questions the Scientologists didn’t like, and when they tried to walk away, the Scientologists took off after them, repeatedly asking them, “What’s your crime?” and they wouldn’t go away. They’re crazy.

It’s basically new age. They teach that you can visualize and create your own perfect reality, but if your reality isn’t perfect, then it’s your own fault. They’ve created a backstory about aliens, and invented machines that they say can help you let go of the aliens so you can make yourself perfect.
