Parents of fallen service members spoke at a press conference on Thursday morning, an event during which they accused the U.S. government of complicity in the deaths of their sons. The families highlighted a number of grievances, including the notion that military brass invited a Muslim cleric to their children’s funeral in 2011 – an imam who they claim “disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen.”
Three families of fallen Navy SEAL Team 6 special forces members and one family of an Army National Guardsman held the event at the National Press Club to make this startling allegation, among many others. Their children perished during the fatal Chinook helicopter crash that occurred in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. The presser was an effort, as noted in a press release, to corroborate the notion that the U.S. government is “as much responsible for the deaths of their sons as is the Taliban.”
The prayer
As for the claim about the Muslim cleric, the families believe that the faith leader attempted to intentionally sully the memory of their sons by “damning them as infidels to Allah.” The group showed video of the prayer to prove their contentions, complete with translation.

I completely understand their disgust. But who cares if anyone says a prayer to damn someone to hell? IMO the only use in publicizing this is to show how perverse that imam was in doing this

What matters is that these Seals were Christian and the administration would not allow a Christian Cleric. They brought in a Muslim Imam. The families were suspicious, and had their camcorder video translated, and he was cursing them to hell as infidells.

The imam’s actions, while disturbing and sorrowful, carry no power and hold no sway. Nobody but the fallen ST6 members and God himself have the power to make their souls go to hell. The imam simply spoke empty words fueled by hatred.

Obviously, but why is this administration always siding with evil people who want to kill us? Mayor Rudolf Giuliani said it best: “Muslims are only 2% of the US population, but responsible for 98% of all terrorist attacks.

I’ve learned not to overreact to these types of stories (FOX-ish culture war stuff), since they always seem to contain glaring falsehoods once examined.

This whole thing reeks of propaganda. Even if I saw a video of it I would doubt it, since such things can be faked through artful editing, and there are really no translators of Arabic that I currently trust.
I doubt seriously that US military officials would ever assign a Moslem Cleric to officiate the funeral of a deceased Christian or Jew.
In the minds of many of the public, these officials may not be geniuses, but stupid they aint!
All of this reminds me of the racist anti-Nazi and anti-Japanese propaganda during WWII. Such stories are only made to inflame people! They usually are not true.

Exactly.

And Steinway, are you really convinced that my greengrocer, or my former dentist is out to kill me? Now the latter was out to commit highway robbery with his fees, but that is another story. Reminds me of that doctored video about Muhammad that had actors saying completely different things in the final cut.

I don not believe that an İmam can do anything like that. Family is so despondent also accuse US administration.

US have military power and operate in Muslim countries and kill millions so people hate US and sometime make a response in a wrong way(Killing someone in unfair is a so big sin that result in hell deathless). But US can kill millions and this is not a crime and mistake because US hold power and no one can judge US that is wrong.

İslam is a peace religious. Anyone can make a mistake but that is not from his religious but from himself defect. Muslims reflect their action to İslam to get more mental power but sometimes they do wrong things unknowingly and these are being considered as İslamic.

I worry that someone design to show İslam and Muslims as terrorist. Only think that with attacks 11 september( Which is uncertain that Muslims did) how many people US killed. İs it not a terror?

If you guys had read the article it states that the Funeral was not just for Christians, but for some afghanis too. That is why an imam was sent to speak at this funeral.

From the article:

Coughlin claims that the funeral rite that was delivered over the dead soldiers is “a standard funeral rite among Muslims.” Naturally, non-Muslims may be surprised by this claim, but the Islam expert expounded in detail:

"Even a standard prayer is actually a little bit offensive because … it comes from a book of the Koran or a chapter of the Koran that’s basically about defeating the infidels. And [in exploring the issue] I basically showed that there were two verses quoted in the funeral rite.

It seems verses in Surah 59:20 - 59:21 were employed in the cleric’s commentary, but the Islam expert argues that one must also consider Surah 59:19 to properly understand how to interpret the subsequent verses shared in the prayer.

Exactly, according to the article: the verse before the prayer the Imam read states that the pray is specifically used to condemn to hell people who are not Muslim. The purpose is like an evil spell on those who are not Muslim. The attorney Larry Klayman representing the grieving parents said: “My personal reaction was that this was a Muslim cleric who was laughing internally at the Christians and any Jews that might have been there - he pulled a fast one, because no one could understand what he was saying.”
