Did anybody ever view children (before they had them) as inconvenient/unwanted?

See though not all people feel great about their children once they have them. otherwise there wouldn;t be so many unwanted children in the world in the first place. Some people change their mind but the just have a baby you will love it once you are pregnant/it is born things will be great doesn;t apply to everyone.
How many of those people entered marriage (or are even married at all) with the contraceptive mentality that kids are optional and their contraception failed?

The reason there are so many unwanted kids in the world is because the world has taken the idea of procreation out of sex and made it simply recreation.

Thank you for the suggestion. I kind of am backing away from the term breeders. I don’t need the headache of anyone jumping on my case. Parents is a better term.
Yeah I agree…it just sucks that topics like this can get sooo heated. And both sides can say some stuff that the other side finds not so nice. I have certainly read some stuff here from the other side on this thread that got me fuming a little. 😛

Wow. do they have any other interest besides breeding?
Carjack, with this and your flippant, “the miscarriages are unfortunate” comments, I officially abstain from any threads you may start. I cannot maintain my own Christian charity toward you any longer. I and many others on this board have tried to help and guide you in compassionate ways. You are not open to it and in fact insult us at every turn.

I have five children, and every single one of them is loved and a gift from God. If it weren’t for finances and physical problems on my part, I would have more. I love these little beings that I have the privelege to give life to, to mold and guide and enjoy, to love and comfort, and whom I get to watch grow into the wonderful people they were meant to be. According to you, I have no other interest besides breeding. Never mind that I have a part time job, a degree in political science, a serious book addiction, and a love for passionate debate.

I agree with the suggestion of professional help to deal with your disordered thinking, and while you are at it, you might want to discuss your tendency toward hostility and attacking others in order to deal with your own inadequacies.

In any case, you do not have to worry about any further comment from me. I simply cannot read any more of the disgusting things you post.

P.S. Breeders is an insulting term used by the childfree movement. Perhaps you would feel more comfortable on one of their boards!

I went into marriage with the idea that kids are optional. But that is what I was taught my whole life. That and to wait until I was 30 to have kids…😛 cracked me up when my mom used to ask me you aren;t pregnant yet are you!? 😛
Really though even if a person wants kids that doesn;t mean that every single time they have sex they are fine with a pregnancy, see what I mean?

Of Course they don’t want kids every single time they have sex. Thats been gone over many times know.

The difference knowing that sex is for procreation and unity, not recreation and unity. The natural result is children, when you mentally take that natural result out of sex and nature does what its supposed to do you have “unwanted children”.

Ok I think I sorta kinda understand what you are saying now.

As a person who has suffered a miscarriage I do find your views incredibly insulting I am unlkely to ever have my own children and this is one of the crosses that I will have to bear. Your attitude however is like that of a petulant child IF you dont WANT children YOU should not have gotten married particularly if you are going through RCIA you obv do not understand the catholic church.

Your views are an insult to the many mothers on this forum and the many women who only wish they could be.

Children are a gift from god they are a miracle - a child starts as something brough from the union of marriage one of the greatest sacraments in the world it is created through love the mother then nurtures it for 9 months, the couple then get to share in the birth of a beautiful new being something that THEY created how can this be anything other than a gift.

Each of us are unique and are blessed with free will if you dont want or like children thats your problem but to express those views in such a flippant manner on a family life and parenting forum is disgusting.

I will most certainly pray for you.

While I agree she has been pretty rude and has said some stuff and used phrases she should have not. I can kinda understand why she might have lashed out at people. Or I can at least say I think the side arguing against her is totally innocent either. I mean personally I find the suggestion that if one isn;t happy about having kids or doesn;t want kids despite what hardships it may cause them, that they need professional help rather insulting. That if you do not want kids at that moment or at all that something is wrong with your thinking. And while they might have not been meant to be rude…please understand that someone that feels like her and me and many other people like us read those statements and think how dare they!? That being said I do agree alot of the comments she has made were completely unnecessecary. As for the childfree forum thing you mentioned…please try to understand that it depends on where you go…but not all childfree make nasty comments about parents or anything like that. A good childfree board is the one on Christian forums.

Ok I think I sorta kinda understand what you are saying now.
Lets try this, I’m going to quote a bit of Christopher West’s book “Good News about Sex and Marriage” (pages 126 & 127), see if it clarify it at all.
By using contraception, a couple set their will against the conception of a child. If their contraception fails (as it can and often does), then they’re stuck with a child growing in the womb that they didn’t bargain for, that they weren’t prepared for, that they didn’t want.
Thus contraception has afforded the grand illusion that we can sever the inherent connection between sex and babies. People then say the strangest things, such was “I got pregnant by accident.”
Thats just small snippet, I don’t have time to type the whole thing 😉

In any case, you do not have to worry about any further comment from me.:extrahappy: that is great. since you like to insult me as well. Can’t say that this post you sent me was constructive. Try to work harder on your debating. I simply cannot read any more of the disgusting things you post. That is your perogative.

P.S. Breeders is an insulting term used by the childfree movement. Perhaps you would feel more comfortable on one of their boards! :mad:Maybe I would and maybe you should go on a forum that is for people who like to pat themselves on the back
:clapping: Now that you told me off don’t forget to let the door hit you, you know where:D

Ok…i Am Sorry For Using The Word Breeder. (i Apologized For This About 5 Times/here Is A Couple More To Those Of You Who Are Mommies And Can’t Conceive And Have Been Wounded By My “rude” Comments) Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry. I Wasn’t Aware That It Was Offensive…some Of You Are Really Being Offensive As Well, But Because My Views Are Different I Am Being Attacked, Especially By Dusky Jewel(i Didnt Tell You To Read Or Respond)btw Dusky, You Sat There And Told Me On Another Thread How Me And My Husband’s Marriage Was Unacceptable, You Need To Get Off Your High Horse…i Was Warming Up To Some Of These Ideas… But Now I See That All This Talk About Catholics And Their Charity Are Extremely Fake…i Have Been Told My Thinking Is Disorderd. Sorry If I Dont Think That Have 1,2,3, …15…20…30 Babies Is Ok And That Having Surprises Would Be Fun. You Guys Wanted Your Babies…that Is Great… I Do Not Have To Want Mine…but If God In His Being Is Crazy Enough To Give Me One…than I Would Have No Choice…children Are Scary When You Don’t Have Them…

So For All Of You Who Think That I Am

Flippant
Disordered
Say Disgusting Things
And God Knows What Else

I Am Sorry, I Didn’t Mean To Offend You Personally. I Guess People Are So Protective Of Their Kids

Carjack,

Do you understand that you come across as a bitter, angry person?

Perhaps starting to become grateful, what joy and beauty do you see in this world, in your life? For what are you thankful?

Maybe thinking about the words of St. Paul…

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”

See though not all people feel great about their children once they have them. otherwise there wouldn;t be so many unwanted children in the world in the first place. Some people change their mind but the just have a baby you will love it once you are pregnant/it is born things will be great doesn;t apply to everyone.
And there wouldn’t be so much abuse in this world either. But most abuse is because parents themselves were abused, not because they hate their kids, it’s more that they never learned how to love others, and that carries over to their kids. I would absolutely say that if someone is cold, meanspirited, and has issues from their past with abuse, he/she would be best suited to getting counseling before having children. I agree that a child being born into a family that abuses him or her, or is made to feel unworthy or a burden, is an awful situation.

But, my comment was meant more for people who are in selfish modes in their lives–and that once one becomes pregnant, it is very possible that the ‘feelings’ might change over the thought of becoming a parent.

I understood by what you meant;) and you made a great point. Abuse is a word that is highly overused in this society.

Carjack,

Do you understand that you come across as a bitter, angry person? No. I guess I will have to ponder on that

I am thankful for many things. How is this related to the post, exactly?
Maybe thinking about the words of St. Paul…

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”
that would be a different thread. Maybe you can start one about things that one is thankful for:)

I’m glad you thought so–just trying to help you sort it all out. I was not happy when I was pregnant with our son, I will admit that. We were married like around 10 months, and we got pregnant, but about 2 months into the pregnancy, I couldn’t imagine life without my son growing inside of me. I would say that for some women, as one of the posters mentioned, being pregnant is a terrible time for them, and they don’t know how to love, and thus are poor parents to their kids. But, for many (I think this might be you), something takes hold of your heart (Holy Spirit?) and transforms the way you think about life. About your own life. About how your body was ‘created’ for this purpose. Our lives have many purposes, and we can play many roles, but a woman’s body was designed no doubt with the potential for carrying life. Now, for women who cannot have children of their own, the pain is truly horrendous. I have a friend who just lost a baby, and while I can’t relate, I can only imagine the pain. I think that through prayer, you will see a different picture than you do today, and through time. Being a parent is challenging at times. But, it’s never a burden. I have never looked at my kids and thought…‘I want to send them back.’ lol It’s a love that really is very moving, and I think teaches us how to be more like Christ.

If the thought of becoming pregnant seems overwhelming to you, you can always adopt. But, if you ever have a child without planning, I have a strong feeling (mother’s intuition:p )that you and your husband will have a change of heart.

Don’t live your life planning every move you both make…let God make your plans, and you will always be happy. (I will keep your husband in my prayers, too, that he some day, will be open to becoming Christian–that would be a blessing) He might be part of the reason you are uneasy about an unplanned pregnancy.

It would be great if you’re both on the same page, but there are many atheists out there, who are great parents.

God bless!
