That mighty miter His Holiness is wearing belonged to Pope John Paul I. I like it!

The cope is beautiful. As is the throne.

Maybe, just maybe, the sedia gestoria could be used at Easter…

Looks like a picture from the past…I love it! The liberals are going nuts:D …just wait and see…it keeps getting more and more traditional there…from the return to the traditional altar set up to the vestments…more to come I am sure!

We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Please pray for our great Holy Father, Benedict XVI!

From the “tower” coat of arms, I believe this marks this cope / papal mantle as having been created for Bl. John XXIII.

The arms are those of John Paul I.
From my research, I believe you to be incorrect. The arms of John Paul I feature a winged lion, 3 stars on a field of blue, and a difficult-to-describe structure of 6 oblong shapes. In addition, I do not believe that in a papacy of 33 days, there would have been time to create such a garment with John Paul I’s arms.

From what I understand from the commentary about the Pope’s Urbi et Orbi vestments from the blogosphere, the mitre was one that belonged to Benedict XV, and it was worn by John Paul I at his Inauguration–and had a medallion/applique of his coat of arms placed on the lappets. The mantle is indeed one of Bl. John XXIII.
