Did anyone pray to find a spouse and have success?

I just want hope that my prayers can be answered if my vocation is marriage 🙂
Well, to be honest, you’re not going to find that in our lives. Even if we happen to have wonderful spouses whose very place in our lives opened our hearts to God, that is not necessarily something to build your own spirituality out of.

Our capacity to trust for God’s will in our life is something that, no doubt, takes years of spiritual development; and this is something quite beyond whether or not a person finds a good husband or wife.

I was a senior in high school. I had just broken up with a complete jerk, and I remember sitting in my car in the school parking lot and saying, “God, I don’t really like this whole dating thing. I’m done with it. Could you just send me the right person? I really don’t want to date. I just want to find the right guy and get married and be done with all of this.”

A few months later I met my husband. We started going out and we never broke up!

I have nothing against dating. I believe it can be very good to meet people because you learn a lot about yourself and what you are looking for in a spouse. Go to the movies, go out to dinner, have long conversations over coffee, etc. It’s good to get to know who is out there. I personally just got fed up with who I had been finding in the male population, so I prayed God would just send me the right man so I wouldn’t have to keep searching. It worked!

Thanks for your good wishes, Gemma.

Perhaps the long wait was because all the years that I was praying, this man was happily married. We met 18 months after his wife died. But during that time, God took me to another country and settled me near him, and I was well established when I met him. The funny thing is, although we met in Queensland Australia, we were born 70 miles apart in England.
I love reading how you met your husband. I’m 40 & am embarking on a career change into nursing because I have no husband or family as yet so I hope to travel as a nurse & do some good while I’m still single (or forever single). People like you give me hope. No matter the age. (I live in Queensland too so maybe you guys are not far from me!).

I believe that things happen in God’s time. He has a plan for all of us. My advice would be not to try and force or rush things but rather wait for God to bring the right person into your life in his time.
