No, it’s not. By their own admission,m anyone, qualified/credentialed or not, contributes to that site. It’s an interesting web community but as a source is no more valid a source than any other internet community.
Firstly, arguments from authority are a known fallacy. It doesnt matter what the source is, if the facts are correct. Anyone edit, but there are talk and discussion forums for corrections and debate.

Secondly, I wrote ‘critically’, that is, do not accept something as fact in the first instance. The Iraqi debacle is a direct result of misplaced validity being placed on the words of the president.

How kind. But are those the basic facts?

My mind wanders to the fact Bush snr was an assassination target from Saddam, and the Project For A New America…and that man who said WMD were chosen as a reason for legalistic reasons, oh and that general who said Iraq was ‘doable’. Oh, and the US withdrawal from Saudi, and the fact Saddam was going to be ask that oil revenues be paid in Euros…

Basic facts…yes, basic facts…
The Basic facts is you didnt like the FACTS presented so you gave us a litany of your opinions instead.

BTW-Iraq is doable. I am proud of the progress we have helped bring about over there. There will be Democratic elections there next month-just think about that -DEMOCRATIC lections in a country than has been ruled by bruatl fascists dictators foir as long as anyone can remember.

Now I kow that there are many who’s hatred for Bush is such that they would like to see the Saddam back in power, the torture chambers and rape rooms re-opened as they know it would be harmful to Bush and the republican party. After all for the Left winning the House and the Senate back so abortion on demand is protected is much more important than the freedom of 60 milion people.

Did I call this one or what? Interpretation? So clearly stated factual information is a matter of interpretation but polls are solid proof? It seems to me that this argument is over.
Wait a minute. First of all, your last two entries contained a lot and I was just wondering which part you believed supported your allegation. Second of all, I was trying to be nice about your using Mansoor Ijaz and the Drudge Report as “credible” resources. Thirdly, I thought you’d be pleased that I’m not ignoring you.

And if the argument is still the title of the thread “Did Bush Lie?” it’s not over.

Mansoor who? None of those links are to the Drudge Report and if they were that is certainly a valid source. Just because he sometimes posts things you do not like does not make him unreliable. The argument is over. Several people have produced solid facts that prove you wrong and you have produced nothing but polls and opinions. Your refusal to face facts and your continued support of propaganda that is harmful to our country and which undeniably endangers our troops does not justify any further effort on my part. I am ending this before it becomes uncharitable and will pray for you. Be well.

Not that I have to get in the last word, but you are the one who listed something from Mansoor Ijaz. He’s a FOX News opinion giver. And your second link is definitely a link that copies off the Drudge Report.

I’m not certain what it is that you consider me to be wrong about since I originally commented to you about the list of Clinton allegations in response to the thread title of “Did Bush Lie?” But I’ll assume that it has to do with my contention that the administration deliberately left the American people with a false impression about 9/11 and Iraq.

You think that I refuse to face facts and I think the same about you. That’s okay. And thank you for the prayer.

:rotfl:I didn’t make an argument from authority. I stated a matter of fact. Their own disclaimer validates this:

“That is not to say that you will not find valuable and accurate information in Wikipedia; much of the time you will. However, Wikipedia cannot guarantee the validity of the information found here. The content of any given article may recently have been changed, vandalized or altered by someone whose opinion does not correspond with the state of knowledge in the relevant fields.”
The Iraqi debacle is a direct result of misplaced validity being placed on the words of the president.
Another error of fact. There is no Iraqi debacle, unless you’re describing things from the Baathist position, of course. 25 million people have been freed from a dictator. They can now vote in free elections and have been doing so in huge numbers each time. There’s another election on Dec 15th. Debacle? Not even close, IMO.

Fallacious argument. Because Ijaz is a contributor to Fox News doesn’t, by itself, invalidate what he has said or written regarding the Clinton refusal to take OBL when he was offered.

As it appeared in the L.A. Times, an blatantly left wing Bush-hating source.
And your second link is definitely a link that copies off the Drudge Report.
It is a link in Sudan that covers Drudge’s commentary on the Vanity Fair article which was absolutely correct and factual as can be seen here:

I’m not certain what it is that you consider me to be wrong about since I originally commented to you about the list of Clinton allegations in response to the thread title of “Did Bush Lie?”
If you originally commented on Clinton’s failures why do you attack anyone who mentions them as nothing more than “Clinton Haters” and make comments like “Then I thought that it just never ends with the Clinton haters; 5 years out of office and they still can’t let go. Move on, my friend”?
But I’ll assume that it has to do with my contention that the administration deliberately left the American people with a false impression about 9/11 and Iraq.
Yes, you are wrong about that too as several people have proven.
You think that I refuse to face facts and I think the same about you. That’s okay. And thank you for the prayer
You can think that about me if you want to but you have presented no facts to ignore. As I and others have pointed out, polls and opinions are not facts. You are welcome.

While I remain puzzled over the argument here, I’ll continue to forge ahead. Let me remind you that my reason for identifying Mansoor Ijaz has to do with the fact that you wrote, “Mansoor who?” after listing him as a source. It appeared that you didn’t know the author on one your links. The same goes for Drudge.

As for my attacking “anyone” about Clinton, as far as I can tell, you are about the only person here that I’ve responded to on the Clinton hatred. When we have such a disasterous administration causing havoc, it’s just disturbing to see people going back to Clinton.

As for my being wrong, only time will tell. Certainly no one has proved me wrong. But my guess is that historians will recount that the nation put their faith in Mr. Bush and over time came to believe that he had betrayed that faith. But who knows.

After 130 replies, who has demonstrated President Bush lied? That’s right: No one.

For those interested in condemning actual falsehood, hop over to this thread and read about a long-debunked internet scam being passed off as fact.

I didn’t know that we were supposed to be demonstrating that President Bush lied. I’d post my own contention, but someone informed me earlier that we were supposed to be commenting on the original editorial.

However, The Wall Street Journal poll last Wednesday had 64 percent of Americans saying they now believe that the Bush administration “generally misleads the American public on current issues to achieve its own ends.” The LA Times had a piece last Sunday exposing the administration’s continued use of “Curveball’s” information well after they had been told by the Germans that Curveball “never claimed to produce germ weapons and never saw anyone else do so.” You need an account to read the Times online so I won’t post the link.

But denying that the president lied really doesn’t help the situation. There’s a reason that so many people have come to that conclusion and the puzzle is whether or not the vast majority of Americans will turn around and believe what he says.

Because it’s true: Bush didn’t lie and you have not proven he did.
There’s a reason that so many people have come to that conclusion…
IMO, that reason has to be “Bush lied” in order for the liberal/leftist view of the world to be valid.

%between%
Flashback to 9/11 – there were minor bits of evidence here and there that al Queda might try to hijack planes, and in other places where Muslims were taking flight lessons, probably in separate places where the government wasn’t allowed to share information, and the Left’s background music was “Bush knew and didn’t do anything to stop it!”

Flash-forward to Iraq – there was a ton of evidence dating back to the 90s that Saddam had weapons (including his use of them) and weapons programs, evidence not only in our own government, but evidence that caused dozens of intelligence agencies in the world to have the same conclusion Bush had. Now the Left’s background music is “Bush lied, and there wasn’t anything to stop!”

When 9/11 happened, the criticism was Bush didn’t do anything to stop it. Had he went after al-Queda before 9/11 and 9/11 didn’t happen, he’d be a war monger. Had he went after al Queda before 9/11 and it did happen anyway, they’d say he caused 9/11.

When Iraq happened, the criticism was that “Bush Lied!”. If he did nothing and Saddam had weapons and used them or gave them to terrorists, the criticism would be “Bush Knew!” If he did nothing and nothing happened, the criticism would probably be that “Bush is ignoring the threat! Bush doesn’t care!”

Did Bush Lie? I don’t know, but one things for certain, no matter what would have happened, he would be criticized in whatever manner was most expedient.

The primary principle used is opportunism against Bush.

The whole contention both attack and defence that Bush lied is rather a red herring. It’s a little like the arguments around what is or is not a sin. Is it a sin not to believe in Christ if your a buddist? No, if you don’t have any knowledge of Christ, Yes if you have the knowledge but have rejected it.

The question of course should be Was Bush AWARE that the information he had was “dodgy”? If the answer is Yes, then he lied, if the answer is No, then he didn’t, never the less, if the answer is NO then questions must be asked of those around him. If the team HE picked is not able to give him factual and unbaised information then why is this team STILL in the White House? I have been in Management for many many years and if ANY of my staff intentionally gave me information I subsequently found to be incorrect they would be through the door so fast even Craig Breedlove would be jelious.

So the question comes down to WHY are those responsible for giving the President “wrong” intelligence still there? There can only be one of two answers:

1: The President WAS aware that the information was wrong and consequentally cannot Fire anyone because the “Fired” individual may well spill the beans, or;
  1. The President WAS NOT aware but does not actually have the authority or power to FIRE those responsible, in other words does he ACTUALLY run the country?
Personally I favour number 2. I suspect he is subject to what in the UK is reffered to as “Mushroom Management”, Kept in the dark and fed bull s**t accasionaly.

I didn’t know that we were supposed to be demonstrating that President Bush lied.
And there’s the rub. Critics of the President feel justified in making all sorts of claims without actually having to provide proof (and, no, Thekla, opinion polls aren’t proof). These critics then sit back and demand that others prove the negative of their evidence-less contention.

Oh, please! The LA Times is akin to the NY version in its hatred of Bush. And, as I have said on other occasions, you can prove anything you want by a poll depending on the wording of the questions and the options given to the responder.

But denying that the president lied really doesn’t help the situation. There’s a reason that so many people have come to that conclusion and the puzzle is whether or not the vast majority of Americans will turn around and believe what he says.
The Dems decided this is the way to go, i.e. Bush lied, and they have done a very good job of saying it often enough that the majority now believe it. But that’s a subject for another day–why so many folks who do not read the newspaper, do not watch news casts or who really have no clue of what is going on in the world, latch on to a sound bite on tv and take it as gospel. I have never understood this irrational hatred of Bush.

Now there’s an interesting comparison, the Dems have said that Bush lied so often, the public now believe it. If this is the case, that repeated offerings eventually convince the public that something that is wrong is right, does this explain why the public believe that the Iraqi’s had WMD’s when they didn’t, that Iraq was directly responsible for 9/11, when they weren’t. Could it actually be that Bush (et al) has said things so often that the public now believe him? Did he lie, NO, was he guilty of uttering truthless inexactitudes? Almost certainly.

President Bush never claimed Iraq was directly responsible for 9/11. The claim that he did so is yet another lie propagated by the Democratic Party.

Yet another untruth. Saddam Hussein’s regime did have WMD. Now it doesn’t.
