well i say why because of a relationship with jesus that he died for my sins in my beliefe in eating the bread and wine of jesus in believing i have taken it i have no sins so i only need to live on faith belife and the gifts of god get multiplied many times for one beliefe of believing in jesuses scripture in the bible makes sence to me so i believe only once is necassary
Well, do you only eat once in your lifetime? The Eucharist is our spiritual food and we need to partake of it regularly to keep ourselves spiritually alive and in good spiritual health. Jesus called Himself the “Bread of Life”. We just don’t eat this Bread once and then we are done with it. It is our spiritual food, and He meant for us to eat it regularly.

I have never, from any Protestant or Catholic, heard such a thing as you have written. There is no logic in it at all.

im not suggesting any or all computers can make logical sence of the so called bread of life but if thats what you call it sounds to me MY LIFE ISNT RUSTING EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY I SUPPOSE ILL LIVE AS OLD AS I WISH you believe what you want but i know rust proccessizm degates everything i SEEK INTERNETITY LIKE JESUS PROMISED ME you take the advice of the church how your ETERNAL SALVATION MIGHT NOT BE DELUDED ESCAPES RATIONALITY

Well, thank you for your beliefs. Catholics, who receive the Eucharist daily though, would tend to disagree. The Eucharist is a union with His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. I enjoy that union as much as possible!

Maybe if you had the Real Presence in your Last Supper, then you’d feel different.

Rationality is a good term, in my view. I haven’t seen much of it in your posts, to be honest with you.

This questions has already been answered 50 times now, but I’ve just got to ask why anyone would think that this is even an argument.

God can turn water into grape juice… but not wine? What is so special about alcohol that renders it miracle-resistant?
**I wonder if the miracle-resisters are former AA members. :hmmm: **

The story had nothing to do with The old Frugal Gourmet being guilty of certain things, but it did have something to do with this whole business of alcohol being some sort of taboo. It’s obvious some things he did with his personal life were wrong, but that’s not the topic here. The point is as well meaning as some people are (even though I think Mr. Welch also had a rooting interest in the matter related to personal gain) can be wrong.
Grapes naturally have a yeast on the skin that causes fermentation. Smash them up and drain the juice and it starts becoming wine right away, although it takes a while for it to teach full strength. Welsh invented a proccess that eliminated that fermentation. He pastuerized the grapes, so he got grape juice instead of wine. The Methodist church still claims to use grape juice because of issues serving wine to recovering alcoholcs and young children. As far as I know even they don’t go along with this whole thing of Jesus drinking grape juice.

I was told that that is what is keeping the Methodist church from becomming an integral part of the Anglican union. You have some hardliners who won’t even go along with the serving of non-alcoholic wine at Methodist communion services. It’s either grape juice or nothing.

I’ve done a computerized search of the bible and don’t find any reference to the specific percentage of alcohol in wine. I did find this:
2 Macc 15:39 It is harmful to drink wine alone, or, again, to drink water alone, while wine mixed with water is sweet and delicious and enhances one’s enjoyment.
Ironic that you found it in the deuterocanonicals. 😉

Try this for Alcohol content of wine:

Alcohol In Wine

Alcohol in wine is as important an element in the final product as the grape itself. It doesn’t just effect how you feel after drinking it. It effects the taste, texture, and structure of the wine itself.

Alcoholic strength is the ethanol (the main product of fermentation) in wine. It is measured in percentage as opposed to proof, which is how alcohol is measured in hard liquor. In the U.S., if the wine is designated as a “Table Wine” on the label, it must have less than 14% alcohol by volume. The law also permits a 1.5% leeway. If a label says 12.5% alcohol by volume, it can actually be as high as 14% or as low at 11%. In the U.S., if a label simply says “Table Wine” then the alcohol content is between 11% and 14%. In Europe the variance is between 8.5% and 14%.

These numbers were arrived at because most grapes after fermentation come in somewhere between 8% in alcohol by volume on the low end, and 14% on the high end. But, that was some time ago. Today wines can come in much higher, especially in hot climates like Australia. And, with new viticulture techniques, and greater controls in the winemaking process, it is not unusual to see wine over 15% in alcohol. There are some Zinfandels and Syrahs, the heavy hitter grapes, that can go up to 16.5 in alcohol by volume, which is huge. Obviously, the “Table Wine” designation is not on their label.
Code:
        The breakdown, approximately is:

        Table wine: 8 – 14%

        Sparkling wine: 8 – 12%

        Fortified wine: 17 – 22%
Fortified wine is wine that has been strengthened with the addition of alcohol. Wines that fall into that category are dessert wines, Sherry or Port. Alcohol has a huge effect on how a wine tastes and feels in the mouth. In table wine, i.e. wine that has gotten its alcohol content from the fermentation of grapes alone, alcohol contributes a sweetness.

It can also be perceived as bitter, especially in a white wine with little flavor and high alcohol. In the mouth, it has a warm feeling. Too much alcohol, and it can have a hot feeling. It adds thickness to the wine. When someone refers to the “legs” in a glass of wine, which is the residue of wine running back into the body of wine after tilting the glass, this is partially determined by the alcohol content of the wine. Swirl some wine in a glass and watch it settle. Look at its legs. Legs are a desirable thing in wine.

And last but not least, the alcohol content in wine can greatly affect the drinker. Having a glass of wine at lunch can greatly affect the rest of your day. Try a wine with 11% alcohol content one day. The next day try one with 14% and feel the difference. In Europe the quaffing of bottles of Chianti or Vin de pays at lunch is not generally of the 14% variety, but of the 11% and lighter variety, which is why they can go back to work after lunch…sometimes.

The whole idea that wine is evil is part of Manicheanism - Albigensianism - Puritanism: three distinct but related heresies that hold that the things of this world are evil and were created by the “Evil One” and are therefore to be avoided. Our bodies are evil, anything pleasurable is evil, etc. Catholics believe that all things were created by God, and when he created them he said they were good. Anything not done in moderation can become an end unto itself and a sin - and if done repeatedly it is easy to fall into a cycle of sin.

Some things are a sin unto themselves - the thing in itself is a sin, like illegal drugs. Wine, in moderation, is not a sin and Jesus did drink it.

My mother in law was trying to tell me that the wine jesus drank did not include alcohal and was just grape juice. is this true? I have never really heard that before. just checking to see what others think.

thanks for your help.
The Bible says wine and that Jesus also sat with the publicans and winebibbers. I think they knew how to make wine back then and the Bible says Noah & Lot got drunk.

Not only that, both the Sumerians and Egyptians made beer!

Noah himself was the first man to plant a vineyard, as per Genesis 9:20-21. And it says he became drunk when he drank some of the wine (which shows us that it isn’t grape juice)! 🙂

In the epistle to Timothy the Holy Spirit inspired St. Paul to write advising the drinking of wine for ailments.

Does the Holy Spirit know what He is talking about?

It was wine. The alcohol content was probably somewhat different than today’s wines, but only because of mechanization.😃

Well, mechanization, and the fact that Napa Valley hadn’t been discovered yet! 😉

The wine was alcohol based. In the time of Christ, there was no refrigeration and when grapes get overheated they ferment. What is wine? Fermented grapes.

1 Timothy 5:23 it says, Stop drinking only water, but use a LITTLE wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine offten infermities.

A methodist minister I know argues that grapes are grapes and it doesn’t matter if one uses wine or grape juice. How does one respond to that??
