Did Jesus have a sense of humor?

The other day I was thinking of what it was like being around Jesus. I pictured me following him and listening to his teachings.

I read in the Bible at times when Jesus wept, but never heard that Jesus laughed. Jesus was human and with that said, there must of been times when he joked around.

Didnt the Apostles and his Disciples kid around with him or told jokes?

Is there anything in the Bible that reflects his sense of humor?
Considering His Salvific mission, I don’t think that Christ saw much to laugh about. He certainly could, but we here on earth search for comedy and laughter. He was sent by His Father for a specific purpose. Really, we should only be able to laugh at ourselves-at our own expense.

Christ’s peace.

You’re hilarious and I agree with you. I have two of them. God MUST have a sense of humor. tee hee!
I used to raise silvermits and had a few sables. They are the nuttiest pets. One I had used to beatup on my rottweiler. She would have this ferret hanging off her lip, looking at me like “what should I do?”😃

Of course Jesus had a sense of humour! He is His Father’s Son and He made me.😃

How about John 1:50? My paraphrase: “And you believe just because I said I saw you under a fig tree? You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

Come on. Are you telling me that his Apostles, which were pretty rowdy, never told jokes?
When Jesus began His public ministry on earth, He chose 12 men to be His disciples.

He chose simple, tough, hard-working men from different backgrounds and even different personalities and moods.

Jesus chose unlearned fishermen, a cold-hearted tax collector who the people saw as a collaborator with their Roman oppressors. He chose hot-headed, rowdy youths, James and John, nick-named “sons of thunder.” He chose a political activist - Simon the Zealot, of whom the Romans would have labelled as a terrorist.

When you consider this, there must have been times where his disciples were cutting up with him.

By your own description of the twelve, why on earth would he laugh, unless with His father over the unlikely prospect of the faith being spread to the ends of the earth? I hope to ask Him some day…

I am sure he did.

I always imagine his secret laughter when He did stuff like raising Lazarus and His other miracles. The look on the disciples’ faces must have been priceless!

Of course He does. Every part of us that is good comes from Him.

I was driving to church one morning and for some reason I was thinking of a particularly painful fight I had with my sister. Although I had sort of forgiven her, it still kept coming back up. In the Gospel reading that day, Peter goes to Jesus, “Lord, how man times must I forgive my brother? And Jesus goes 7 x 70.” So I’m sitting there thinking, come on–aren’t you going to tell us what Peter & Andrew kept fighting about?

So the point is, sometimes the Gospels writers leave out all the little details, including when Jesus laughed.

The story of Jesus taking the temple tax out of a fish’s mouth is the one most often used to convey his sense of humor.

It does say somewhere in the Sacred Scripture that God laughs. I think it goes something like…God laughs when men say He is dead. I think it’s in the Old Testament. Sorry for not being more specific but there are alot of academic minds on these forums who will be able to give you the chapter and verse. I just remember reading it.
It’s in Psalm 2 verse 4.

Those are some good points, but still, it would have been nice to read in the Bible that Jesus laughed.

For some reason, Jesus has been on my mind for the last few days. I get a real peaceful feeling knowing he is there.

I layed in bed this morning thinking of walking with him and his sense of humor crossed my mind.
I know what you mean … I wish there was even one spot in the Bible that said ‘Jesus was happy’, somewhere. I cry every time I read about Jesus in the Garden… imagine telling your friends you’re going to be imprisoned soon, asking them to spend your last few free hours with you, and they can’t even stay awake? How sad!

But I imagine it’s like a lot of things that don’t get mentioned in the Bible - they’re not relevant to the Big Picture of Our Saviour. No one pats a cat in the Bible either, but there must have been cats around… etc.

(I’m rambling, aren’t I? 😉 )

I have a Sable and I think the other is called a chocolate or something…not sure. I will have to read up on it again. Their names are Littles and Teensies. They can put me in a good mood no matter what.

I didn’t know how nutty they were when we first got them. One day I came home from a terrible day at work and let them out of their cage and proceeded to lay on the couch. I kept hearing this thumping noise and then the giggle. Finally I looked over the side of the couch and Teensies was throwing her butt against the couch to get my attention and when I looked at her she went into one of those mental dances, hit her head on the table did a couple of flips then giggled and runs under the couch. I laughed so hard…

Truly God has a sense of humor

Well, I’m quite sure Jesus has a good sense of humor. I joke with him all the time in our daily conversations, especially when the kids do something cute or funny. I’m sure he’s cracking up right along with me. 😉
