I spent two years in the LDS church. LDS believe Jesus was married and had at least three wives. I just got done reading a pro LDS board and some LDS woman was saying she can’t believe people think Jesus did not have s*x with his wives on earth.

I went to Mass this evening (I’m in RCIA). I just can’t believe there are people who believe this and teach it.

I’m afraid I don’t know the Bible all that well. Is there solid evidence that he did not marry or is there evidence that he did?

  1. No, He didn’t marry.
  2. The only Bride of Christ is the Church.
  3. No, there is no evidence in the Bible of Jesus marrying.
  4. I’m curious why they would think that God would need to marry to complete His mission?

I would say with an absolute NO.
There is no proof in the Bible that Jesus was actually married to anyone. It would have stated so in the Bible.
Marriage was not something to be hidden in the Jewish community , it was actually respected. So it would have stated so in the Bible if he had been married. The Jewish community never kept marriage a secret either.

So my longwinded answer is no. He did not marry anyone. There is no proof in the Bible that Jesus was ever married to anyone.

I’m a former Mormon myself.

NO, there is no biblical evidence to prove Jesus was married.

No!
Jesus was never married.
Nowhere in the Bible is there a suggestion of that.

“Christianity holds that Jesus gave himself wholly to the mission of inaugurating the kingdom of God through his teaching, passion, death, and resurrection. If Jesus were married, then at some point he compromised his mission in the interests of married life or compromised his marriage in the interest of the kingdom. Neither scenario fits the Christian view of Jesus, which sees him as completely dedicated to doing the Father’s will—and to forming the Church to be his Bride.”

NO WAY…

(Matthew 22:30):*
“At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”

*Based on that quote, since Angels have no marriage, and since JESUS is GOD’s Word, then there is NO WAY that He was married when He was in the human flesh.

That earthy instinct (aka. sex) is for us humans and animals…

😛 how would all that traveling and leaving at a moments notice go over with any wife? not to mention time constraints. i can see it now. " Jesus, you take time to feed 5000 people! what about meeee?!" then the next wife, " all you do is hang out with your 12 buddies. what about us, and our needs. you ask if your disciples love you, you havent asked us that in how long?" and on and on it goes. no way hosea, he couldnt have been married. not to one, let alone three! lol! peace 🙂

“Jesus, you take time to feed 5000 people! what about meeee?!”
Oh this is just hysterical. Thanks for the early morning chuckle. 😃

There is nothing in the Bible that says Jesus ever married yet I did some research and was shocked to learn Mormon leaders actually teach this falsehood.

Apostle Hyde and Counselor Joseph F. Smith cite the wedding at Cana (John 2:1-12) yet if you read the passage for yourself it was Jesus first miracle and NOTHING is said about it being His wedding yet these people are saying so!!! they also use (John 20:8-18)…which if you read for yourself says nothing at all about Jesus being married!

Apostle Hyde also used Isaiah 53:10 to defend his teaching of the parental status of the Son, I personally find it shocking that they can distort the truth so much.I absolutely have sympathy for you as it must be terribly hard to overcome their untruths.

My suggestion to you would be read the Bible for yourself you say that you are not that familiar with it.When you read it for yourself you will feel reassured about so many things. It must be very difficult for you having grown up with all this false teaching and then to discover for yourself it is not true.Reading the Bible is something we should all do on a regular basis. When you attend Mass you will have the 2 readings from the old testament plus the Responsorial psalm and the Gospel. Why not start with these after each Mass go home and read fruther around the readings said at Mass. You will become familiar with what is really being said and feel more confident in yourself.God bless you and hope you are enjoying RCIA

your very welcome. and before any of the ladies get mad at me, this is tongue and cheek. not trying to slight the women at all. i love women. they absolutely intrigue me. i am an avowed celibate, but i have 2 very close female friends, one of 16 years that just fascinate me. i love trying to figure out how their minds work. and how, when i have an issue, i can bring it to each of them, and if i get a consensus i can make very good decisions. God stated it is not good that man should be alone. but he didnt state i had to have an intimate relationship with a woman… not to mention, if the military wanted me to have a wife, they would have issued me one. 😉

The LDS church does not teach one way or another on this.
There is nothing in the Bible that says He was or was not. There is speculation by many on the topic, but that is all it is…speculation.
Some bring out as evidence(not proof), that becaus of His standing and position in the community, being able to teach in the temple, He may have been married. (I am not an authority on such matters so I can’t give specifics as to His position or requirements for it.)

The standard works, including the Bible, do not clearly indicate whether Jesus Christ was single or married. To take either position is to speculate, and either position is beyond the present doctrine of the Church.

If Jesus was, his wife would have been at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion. Instead, none are accounted and it is actually Mary, His mother, who is most prominent. Another thought, if there was a wife, He would have told John to take care of her too…remember the account…“Behold your mother…behold your son”…it would have been different if there ever was.

Don’t you think that it would been significant enough to mention in the Bible had Jesus married?

Question. Would you see Jesus in a different light or in a different way if he was married?

Where would he have the time?

Would He be stubborn and stiff neck…to warrant multiple wives ??

Thats disgusting. You dont marry your kids.

And I think the same could be said about siblings, but even then the siblings did not ‘MAKE’ you.

Although they are both gross.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not offically approve of the practice of polygamy today, however it was an important part of their past and it has a lot to do with their future.
Mormons claim to be Christians and to believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible. They are greatly offended when told that they are not Christians. However, when examining their beliefs by comparing them with the Bible you get a real understanding as to why they are wrongly identifying themselves with the Jesus Christ of the Bible

These are a few of the quotes from the writing of the Mormon elders concerning the fact that they teach and believe the blasphemy that Jesus was married to Mary, Martha and the other Mary and that God was once a man and now lives in heaven practicing polygamy.

[Jedediah M. Grant, Second Counselor to Brigham Young the Second Prophet of the LDS Church:

"Celsus was a heathen philosopher; and what does he say upon the subject of Christ and his Apostles, and their belief? He says, the ‘grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ, was because He had so many wives; there were Elizabeth, and Mary, and a host of others that followed Him.’ After Jesus went from the stage of action, the Apostles followed the example of their master. . . The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, casing his crucifixion, was evidently based on polygamy,. . .a belief in the doctrine of plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus, and his followers. We might almost think they were ‘Mormons’ " (Journal of Discourses, Vol 1. ppl 345-346)

Mormon Apostle Orson Hyde made these statements:

“It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; . . .no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha, and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved, must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the least of it.”
“I will venture to say that if Jesus Christ were now to pass thought the most pious countries in Christendom with a train of women, such as used to follow him, . . .he would be mobbed, tarred, and feathered, and rode, not on as ***, but on a rail.”

“At this doctrine the long-faced hypocrite and the sanctimonious bigot will probably cry, blasphemy! . . . Object not, therefore, too strongly against the marriage of Christ.” (All the above statements: Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, pages 259-260)

“When Mary of old came to the sepulcher. . .she saw two angels in white. and they said unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She said unto them, Because they have take away my Lord, OR HUSBAND, and I know not where they have laid him.” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, page 210)

Statement by Brigham Young, second prophet of the LDS church:

"The Scripture says that He, the Lord, came walking in the Temple, with “HIS TRAIN; I do not know who they were, unless his wives and children;” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13. page 309)

The Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt:

“…it will be seen that the GREAT MESSIAH who was the founder of the Christian religion, WAS A POLYGAMIST, . . .the MESSIAH chose. . .by marrying honorable wives himself, show to all future generations that HE approbated the plurality of wives under the Christian dispensation, as well as under the dispensation in which His polygamist ancestors lived. . . .We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives. . .” (The Seer, page 172)]

To the OP it is frightening ( and I myself am shocked ) to discover what the Mormon church believes and teaches.Be assured Jesus was never married.Read the Bible for yourself and assure yourself.

Now this bit is the MOST shocking of their beliefs so far…

[To obtain the celestial glory, which means to obtain godhood, a couple must have a temple marriage referred to as the sealing ceremony or endowments. This marriage is referred to as for all time and eternity and means an eternal marriage. Joseph Fielding Smith gave this answer to the question about Mormon couples who are not married in the temple, "Unless young people who marry outside the temple speedily repent, they cut them-selves off from exaltation in the celestial kingdom of God. If they should prove themselves worthy, notwithstanding that great error, to enter into the celestial kingdom, they go in that kingdom as servants. [see Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 4 vols. (Salt Lake: Deseret Books, 1957-66), p. 196., Gospel Library, [CD-ROM], Infobases, 1998.’]

[This means that unless Jesus Christ was married he would not be allowed to go to the highest heaven which is the Celestial Heaven nor could he become a god. It is an absolute fact that the LDS Church’s official teaching is that a man must be married obtain the Celestial Heaven. ]

hmmmmm I understand all your worries the more I read of Mormon beliefs! Jesus was not married!

God bless you

Question. Would you see Jesus in a different light or in a different way if he was married?
Yes, I do.
If He was married than I think Islam would be right…
I DO NOT imagine GOD’s Word performing that lust instinct (aka. sex), NEVER EVER…

Was Jesus Married? All the Evidence Says “No”.

All of the evidence in the Bible indicates that Jesus was single
When mention is made of Jesus’ relations, His brothers, sisters, and mother are mentioned - but never a wife
There is strong evidence that Jesus’ voluntarily chose to be celibate in order to totally consecrate Himself to God
The assertion that Jesus must have been married because He was a “rabbi” is bogus - He was not technically a rabbi, so there was no cultural expectation that He be married
There is also plenty of evidence that singleness was an accepted lifestyle for those who desired to totally dedicate themselves to God (the sect of the Essenes were known to be celibate for example)
When Mary Magdalene is discussed, she is described as one of several women who traveled with Jesus and His apostles and ministered to their needs
Extra-biblical texts do not even support the supposition that Jesus was married - to Mary Magdalene or anyone else. They position the two as being very close (companions or “partners”), but not married.

All of the evidence in the Bible supports the notion that Jesus was single. There is no mention of a wife of Jesus anywhere in the New Testament Scripture. And there were plenty of situations where a wife presence would have been expected, and thus noted. But instead, Jesus’ family, or other groups are mentioned:

“There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee; and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.” (Mark 15:40-41).

Where there is the opportunity to mention His relatives, mention is made only of his mother and brothers – but never a wife. If Jesus had a wife, mention would have made. Mention is made in the New Testament of the wives of other apostles, and of Cephas (Peter), but not Jesus.

1 Cor 9:5: “Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas”

There is evidence that Jesus deliberately chose to be single so that He could totally consecrate Himself to His Father’s work. Note the following quote from Jesus, where He states that some voluntarily choose to become “eunuchs” (or celibate) for the sake of God’s work:

Matthew 19:12: “…there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”

Jesus was an example in everything He did, and His singleness was evidence of His complete commitment and devotion to His Father. It is also interesting to note that Paul the apostle was also celibate, in contrast to many of the other apostles, and he emphasizes the merits of remaining single (see 1 Cor. 7).

The LDS church has never taught that Jesus was married or single.
Jedediah Grant’s quote was taken out of context as he is quoting a “Heathen philospher”.
Orson Hyde had his own opion.
Individual people are allowed to have their own opinion you know.
This bit of information has not been revealed one way or another so the Church has no official stance on it. And as I stated just above, many people will have their own opinion both for and against.
The one thing a lot of people keep getting wrong is: the LDS church has no teaching on it one way or another.
