Yes, I do.
If He was married than I think Islam would be right…
I DO NOT imagine GOD’s Word performing that lust instinct (aka. sex), NEVER EVER…
It wouldn’t change my view of Jesus and what he came her to do. Now I believe he was not married but if he was he would not be any less holy, any less then what he is. God created sex and you call it lust. Now your saying that God gave us the sin of lust. So God told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply by doing a sinful act of having sex? God created it (sex) to procreate, for a married couple to enjoy intimency with eachother, to show their love for eachother. Look up the word lust.

To the OP, I’ve never seen anything but speculation on the subject.
Obviously there is no biblical support for the topic, just as with Jesus having siblings.

I spent two years in the LDS church and really never paid much attention to them teaching that Jesus was married. They don’t publicly teach that God is married but I was talking on the phone with a friend who was trying to get me to stay in and he was telling me about the wives of Heavenly Father.

Now I find their teachings very wrong but they are still in my head. It does break my heart sometimes that they would have such radical believes. I can see why so many ex-LDS become atheists.

Hi Tiki I have so much sympathy for you I really do.Until I started researching for myself I had no idea of the strange and far fetched ideas of the Lds church. My goodness their views are so far removed from Christianity it is frightening! I am so glad you have felt the calling to come home to the catholic church. You will feel closer and closer to Our Lord as the more you learn of the catholic church.Pray and read the bible as often as you can.As I said before when you attend Mass the readinds & Gospel that are said at Mass go home and read around this readisn toi start with. I sincerely believe mormon peiople are good sincere people I just think they have been taught distorted truths and have been misled.God loves you and you can be a shining example to your mormon friends the more knowledge you have.God bless you Teresa

(Matthew 22:30):*
“At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”*

what I understand from the above quote that sex and lust is something earthy, and since JESUS is not an earthy Person He is GOD’s Word, He will not perform those things.

Now for Adam & Eve, how can we be so sure that “sex” was the act to multiply prior to the fruit incident, remember that the whole life changed upon eating the forbidden fruit.

Maybe the act (call me crazy) was by just Adam saying to Eve, hey :flowers:wife get me a child, and she would be pregnant immediately.👍

I spent two years in the LDS church. LDS believe Jesus was married and had at least three wives. I just got done reading a pro LDS board and some LDS woman was saying she can’t believe people think Jesus did not have s*x with his wives on earth.

I went to Mass this evening (I’m in RCIA). I just can’t believe there are people who believe this and teach it.

I’m afraid I don’t know the Bible all that well. Is there solid evidence that he did not marry or is there evidence that he did?
If you were taught that this is official church doctrine, then you were taught in error.

**"Dale Bills, a spokesman for the Church, said in a statement released Tuesday, 16 May 2006:

The belief that Christ was married has never been official church doctrine. It is neither sanctioned nor taught by the church. While it is true that a few church leaders in the mid-1800s expressed their opinions on the matter, it was not then, and is not now, church doctrine.[2] "
The Church does not take an official position on this issue**

Official doctrine or no, mormons believe this to be true and do not research the issue for themselves. I suppose if they did, along with researching other incorrect beliefs, they would no longer be mormon.
How sad that this is even considered by mormons.

From what I have read in other threads, when confronted with such kinds of teachings, the common response I have seen from Mormons, is this is not official church teaching, LDS has no position in the matter.

My question: If it is not official teaching, why was it even taught or attributed to the Mormons in the first place?

Why is it even a church or religion if it has no official position on important matters? To be a church, you have to have a set core of beliefs, a core theology, I think, from which official positions can be derived.

Anyway, this are just my observations.

Sorry you are incorrect. THIS Mormon does not believe that Jesus was married and I am still Mormon:D Teachings that are not official church doctrine are mine to choose to believe or not to believe. I am sure there are ideas/teachings in EVERY religion that have been passed down from generation to generation that are not official doctrine of that particular church that are either in direct opposition to official teachings or just left up to the conscience of the believer since they are not a slavation issue.

I guess it is like any other teaching from any church that may be in error. It may have been taught at one time but has become an “opinion” subject since it is not official. I was raised, as a Catholic, to believe that one who commits suicide was automatically going to hell and could not be burried in “hallowed” ground because of it. Well, that is NOT official catholic doctrine yet it was still taught by many in the Catholic church. I am not condemning the Catholic church - just pointing out that there are “teachings” that may not be strictly in line with a church’s doctrine yet are taught widely at some point.

Hi Annie, you make a very good point that various religious denominations have unofficial opinions or understandings and you say yourself “{I guess it is like any other teaching from any church that may be in error.}” So you yourself see it as an error? "{ It may have been taught at one time but has become an “opinion”} So you see it ‘was’ taught and believed by the followers of Lds.

I have always had a great respect for mormons who I have met, particularly missionaries as they are so sincere and evangelise so heartily. I have to say I have been shocked by some of the things I have learnt just these past few days from investigating for this thread.

Among some of the shocking things I have found are…

[To obtain the celestial glory, which means to obtain godhood, a couple must have a temple marriage referred to as the sealing ceremony or endowments. This marriage is referred to as for all time and eternity and means an eternal marriage. Joseph Fielding Smith gave this answer to the question about Mormon couples who are not married in the temple, "Unless young people who marry outside the temple speedily repent, they cut them-selves off from exaltation in the celestial kingdom of God. If they should prove themselves worthy, notwithstanding that great error, to enter into the celestial kingdom, they go in that kingdom as servants. [see Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 4 vols. (Salt Lake: Deseret Books, 1957-66), p. 196., Gospel Library, [CD-ROM], Infobases, 1998.’]

This means that unless Jesus Christ was married he would not be allowed to go to the highest heaven which is the Celestial Heaven nor could he become a god. It is an absolute fact that the LDS Church’s official teaching is that a man must be married to obtain the Celestial Heaven.

The unmistakable conclusion is that the LDS god was a mortal man who was married and his marriage qualified him for being exalted to godhood. The god of the Mormons is a man-god who once was a man like any other man, who by his good works was exalted to godhood. That is what the Mormons are working for…not salvation…but godhood. (See Genesis 3:5, Godhood is what Satan promised Eve if she disobeyed God and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil)

I back this up with the following quotes…from various Mormon books and writers…

[God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321; Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 613-614; Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 345; Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333).

“The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s…” (D&C 130:22).]

[The Devil was born as a spirit after Jesus “in the morning of pre-existence,” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 192).
B.Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163).
C.A plan of salvation was needed for the people of earth so Jesus offered a plan to the Father and Satan offered a plan to the father but Jesus’ plan was accepted. In effect the Devil wanted to be the Savior of all Mankind and to “deny men their agency and to dethrone god,” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 193; Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 8).

[There is a mother god, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443).
God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit children, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 516). ]

.“The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood - was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115).

F.“Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers,” (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, p. 547).

H.“Elohim is literally the Father of the spirit of Jesus Christ and also of the body in which Jesus Christ performed His mission in the flesh…” (First Presidency and Council of the Twelve, 1916, “God the Father,” compiled by Gordon Allred, p. 150).

I too am not condeming the lds religion…but you have to see that these are highly surprising views being taught and held?

May God bless you Annie

If Jesus was, his wife would have been at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion. Instead, none are accounted and it is actually Mary, His mother, who is most prominent. Another thought, if there was a wife, He would have told John to take care of her too…remember the account…“Behold your mother…behold your son”…it would have been different if there ever was.
Magdalene was present though, wasn’t she? Isn’t it her that people always suggest? (This isn’t my opinion btw).

Annie B…I am not that much familiar with the history behind the suicide teachings, so I leave that to the experts.

But the point is, so if someone from the LDS espoused a position, or taught something, like polygamy, Jesus marrying, the views on God and the Trinity, on Jesus, these were based on a doctrine from which these understanding was derived. It seems to me, with the denials of LDS that it was not official, there was no official doctrine, core doctrine or core theology to begin with. Or it is an ever changing doctrine.

Polygamy is not a doctrine…it is a practice…The doctrine is Celestial or Eternal Marriage.
Polygamy is a way in which it was practiced for a time, now monogamy is the practice. The doctrine remains the same.

Hi L&L yes she certainly was present also Mary (Our Lady),her sister, and another Mary wife of Clopas.

John 19:25-27
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

Maybe the act (call me crazy) was by just Adam saying to Eve, hey :flowers:wife get me a child, and she would be pregnant immediately.👍
Now I’m not saying that I believe he had sex or was married.
Yes Jesus is God’s word. But the word became flesh, became a man, became human. with all the feelings we have, all the pain we have, all the suffering we have. He was so much human that he didn’t want to be killed or crusified thats why he prayed to let this cup pass. He didn’t want to endure all the pain that he was going to endure. Now just physical pain but spiritual pain as well. If sex was given to us by God then why wouldn’t he preform those things. Sex is not bad if its not abused.

Now as far as Adam and Eve go, it sounds pretty good that all he had to say was, hey wife get me a child and she would be pregnant immediately but what about this one, all Adam had to do was say hay wife give me a child and poof there was a child without Eve getting pregnant at all. Just poof the child is there. :thumbsup

Surely that would just convince people that by saying that, he was implying she was her mother-in-law?
