I guess it is like any other teaching from any church that may be in error. It may have been taught at one time but has become an “opinion” subject since it is not official.** I was raised, as a Catholic,** to believe that one who commits suicide was automatically going to hell and could not be burried in “hallowed” ground because of it. Well, that is NOT official catholic doctrine yet it was still taught by many in the Catholic church. I am not condemning the Catholic church - just pointing out that there are “teachings” that may not be strictly in line with a church’s doctrine yet are taught widely at some point.

Wow, you went from Catholicism to Mormonism? Why?

Yet this position was dropped when Washington, D.C., threatened to deny statehood to Utah. Similarly, and more recently, a “revelation,” saying blacks would no longer be denied the Mormon priesthood, was given to Mormon leaders when the federal government became involved.
Why yes, blacks are now even allowed into the celestial kingdom. Of course they will go there as SERVANTS.

I have been reading quite a bit about Mormonism these past weeks and the more I read the more . . .

Nope, don’t even want to go there.

It could become an occasion of sin.

I think I have read enough to give you an idea of what the Negro is after. He is not just seeking the opportunity of sitting down in a cafe where white people eat. He isn’t just trying to ride on the same streetcar or the same Pullman car with white people. It isn’t that he just desires to go to the same theater as the white people. From this, and other interviews I have read, it appears that the Negro seeks absorption with the white race. He will not be satisfied until he achieves it by intermarriage. That is his objective and we must face it. We must not allow our feelings to carry us away, nor must we feel so sorry for Negroes that we will open our arms and embrace them with everything we have. Remember the little statement that we used to say about sin, “First we pity, then endure, then embrace”… [Is he really comparing Blacks to sin?]

Now we are generous with the Negro. We are willing that the Negro have the highest education. I would be willing to let every Negro drive a Cadillac if they could afford it. I would be willing that they have all the advantages they can get out of life in the world. But let them enjoy these things among themselves. I think the Lord segregated the Negro and who is man to change that segregation? It reminds me of the scripture on marriage, “what God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Only here we have the reverse of the thing – what God hath separated, let not man bring together again.

Think of the Negro, cursed as to the priesthood…This Negro, who, in the pre-existence lived the type of life which justified the Lord in sending him to the earth in their lineage of Cain with a black skin, and possibly being born in darkest Africa–if that Negro is willing when he hears the gospel to accept it, he may have many of the blessings of the gospel. In spite of all he did in the pre-existent life, the Lord is willing, if the Negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost.** If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory. **(Race Problems-As They Affect The Church, at the Convention of Teachers of Religion on the College Level, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, August 27, 1954. The LDS does not believe in that. The FLDS probably does which is a branch off of the LDS that practices polygamy still. The FLDS has been excommunicated by the LDS.

Also Miriam, the racism issue no longer is believed in the lds church. They changed that in I think 60’s or 70’s. They dont believe that anymore.

Hi flyonthewall further to your comment on polygamy what are your thoughts on …below…thankyou!

“In the late 1880s,” says Hinckley, “Congress passed various measures prohibiting [polygamy]. When the Supreme Court declared these laws constitutional, the church indicated its willingness to comply. It could do nothing else in view of its basic teachings on the necessity for obedience to the law of the land. That was in 1890. Since then officers of the church have not performed plural marriages, and members who have entered into such relationships have been excommunicated.”

Before Congress acted, Mormons were convinced polygamy was not merely permissible, but positively good, for those “of the highest character who had proved themselves capable of maintaining more than one family.” (Section 132 of Doctrine and Covenants is officially subtitled this way: “Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, as also plurality of wives.”)

Yet this position was dropped when Washington, D.C., threatened to deny statehood to Utah. Similarly, and more recently, a “revelation,” saying blacks would no longer be denied the Mormon priesthood, was given to Mormon leaders when the federal government became involved.
When God says to do something…it is good to do. When God says stop doing something, we stop doing it.
The federal government would have had no authority to demand a church do anything…so the issue with the priesthood had nothing to do with anything the federal government doing anything. There were inquiries to the Lord about it long before 1978, but the Lord does things in His own time.

What  I hope and pray that you don’t believe this load of garbage.

I spent two years in the LDS church. LDS believe Jesus was married and had at least three wives. I just got done reading a pro LDS board and some LDS woman was saying she can’t believe people think Jesus did not have s*x with his wives on earth.

I went to Mass this evening (I’m in RCIA). I just can’t believe there are people who believe this and teach it.

I’m afraid I don’t know the Bible all that well. Is there solid evidence that he did not marry or is there evidence that he did?
No, Jesus never married. His only Bride is the Church. Think of it this way… Jesus is God. Why would God need to marry? He came to earth to suffer and die for us. Not to get married. Also what would happen if He had children? would they be 1/2 God and 1/2 human? that makes no sense, even Jesus is full God and fully Man. To the LDS woman who said that “she can’t believe people think Jesus did not have s*x with his wives on earth” - I’d say that is disrespectful of Our Lord. Of course He never had marital relations with anyone.

The LDS church lets it’s members decide if they believe jesus was married or not.

Also their is an order of nuns that actually have a wedding ceremony to jesus!!!so how many nuns have been married to him!!!

your very welcome. and before any of the ladies get mad at me, this is tongue and cheek. not trying to slight the women at all. i love women. they absolutely intrigue me. i am an avowed celibate, but i have 2 very close female friends, one of 16 years that just fascinate me. i love trying to figure out how their minds work. and how, when i have an issue, i can bring it to each of them, and if i get a consensus i can make very good decisions. God stated it is not good that man should be alone. but he didnt state i had to have an intimate relationship with a woman… not to mention, if the military wanted me to have a wife, they would have issued me one. 😉
**Well that made me laugh…have you figured out how our minds work yet? Probably not…but I think it’s wonderful that you have female friends…and vice versa for them…most women would say they understand men very well…but men will never say that about women…my husband hasn’t a clue but ex does now after a long time…some men are just more receptive…good for you.

What  I hope and pray that you don’t believe this load of garbage.
Of course not. I remember those days. I was after all born in 1947. See my name. 😉

This is what the Mormon church taught. It is not now, nor has ever been, what I have believed.

I spent two years in the LDS church and really never paid much attention to them teaching that Jesus was married. They don’t publicly teach that God is married but I was talking on the phone with a friend who was trying to get me to stay in and he was telling me about the wives of Heavenly Father.

Now I find their teachings very wrong but they are still in my head. It does break my heart sometimes that they would have such radical believes. I can see why so many ex-LDS become atheists.
Many non-Catholics and non-Orthodox Christians can get beyond the idea that men “NEED” sex. They are actually projecting their own compelling temptations that “MUST” be quenched in their minds. They already believe they have authority and are part of a group that considers themselves to be “the one true church” so why not adopt the idea of multiple wives and adopt heretical beliefs founded on foreign beliefs. The faith I used to belong to taught like Kevin, the lay preacher who left Catholicism believing Catholics are most likely doomed to the eternal fires - sorry if that’s not what you believe but you sure do present yourself that way to me from reading your posts. No one catechized them like me. They never really dug really deep into history enough to have the dark colored glasses cleared. Had they reached this point they would have found more scandal that would bear more fruit over what they believe is true history. Not always, but often the real life stories are more shocking than the made up ones, like soap operas.

People force history and scripture to fit their own desires and/or beliefs…beliefs based on convenience usually. Researching this stuff is very difficult and heart wrenching if you’re coming from a Protestant perspective. You’ll find RCIA to be a very challenge because Satan and his demons will tempt you in many ways on your journey. Keep you sights on Christ. That is the center of the Church.

In the catholic church jesus has hundreds probably thousands of wives because their is an order of nuns that have an actual wedding ceremony to jesus so all the nun in that order are married to him. That’s not right dont you think?
