she did establish schools and institutions to serve Negros and Indians (as they were called in her day) in the South during the time when segregation was the law of the land, and no doubt complied with those laws. The reason she, and others who served those populations, founded such organizations is that under segregation the needs of these groups simply were not served by existing institutions.
