I have heard the LDS helped pay for the restoration of the Salt Lake Cathedral. Is this correct?

Hi BartBurk,

I’m not sure, but the LDS regularly give contributions to other churches building in the Utah area. They even helped finance the Hare Krishna temple in Spanish Fork, UT. The idea is to make people feel a little more welcome in Mormonville. It can be intimidating to move here.

They did.

Also, being in Utah, some of the artists and craftsman were LDS as well. There is a bust of Mary and Jesus in a chapel, it is very beautiful, Catholics pray there every day…it was made by an LDS artist. The chapel is named “Our Lady of Zion”.

Ya, the Mormon church tries to have good relations with all the churches in Utah since it has a huge presence or influence with everything there. There’s like 1.8 million mormons and 120,000 catholics. The catholic church does very well in other parts of the country in aid and support.

Finally, a “restoration” the LDS actually carried out! 🙂

Hopefully, they didn’t pilfer any Catholic baptism records for their dead dunking rituals.

I find that funny considering the LDS church has by far the highest contributions in direct aid per capita then any other church. We gave out $105 million in aid last year. By comparison, the catholic church gave out $150 million despite being 20 times larger then the LDS church.
I really don’t think you would like to get into this discussion. It’s pretty humbling on the Catholics side.

I’m just curious, where did you get the number 150 million from?

Could you provide a link to those statistics, why do you find it “funny”, and what does it have to do with the topic at hand?

The LDS church does far more “restoration” then the Catholic church both temporally and spiritually.

…Provided you buy into the bare assertion fallacy that there was a “Great Apostacy” caused by the “Great and Abominable Church”…not too hard to read between the lines there.

And you do know that Catholic Charities collections arent’ centralized, right?

Right, and they also aren’t published collectively either. But CRS is a good indicator of the financial aid internationally. That is the main humanitarian program of the church.

CRS is also the humanitarian program of the USBCC.

You’re comparing apples and rutabagas. There is no central collection for Catholic humanitarian programs.

Are there only 3 million mormons in the USA?

Catholic Charities collected $3.2 BB in 2005. (this is also just in the US). #5 Charity in the US.

Now, can we move on? Thanks for remodeling the SLC Cathedral. As I said before, I hope there was no pilfering of baptisimal records for… less than honorable intentions.

Yes, as compared to .42 cents for CRS.

I was looking for that 3.2 billion number for years. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I tried looking at catholic charities USA but it doesn’t publish it there. The $105 in aid is just a small portion that is published, no one knows the whole figure. I estimated it at a few billion but i really have no clue.

I only could use the 2 charities that are very similiar in purpose and they both happened to publish their finannces. The LDS Humanitarian Fund and the CRS.

You made it all up. Just as I thought.

Thank You
