Did Jesus’ mom, Mary, sin? I know she was born without original sin, but did she ever sin in her life?
NO!Did Jesus’ mom, Mary, sin? I know she was born without original sin, but did she ever sin in her life?
What is BVM?This is one of the hard point to believe in when it comes to this kind of question because the BVM is just a mere human being. But if one would make a focus on the woman in Gen. 3: 15 and makes an evaluation whether it refers to Eve or to the BVM, one would come to a conclusion that the BVM has not sinned at all ever since. Why? 1Tim. 2: 14 clearly states that Eve had sinned, and if one sinned he or she belongs to the devil 1John 3: 8.
How could there be enmity between the woman and the devil in Gen. 3: 15 if the woman refers to Eve? They were already friends or ally!
So, the woman in Gen. 3: 15 could refer perfectly to the BVM,
NOPE! Wait, was this a trick question?Did Jesus’ mom, Mary, sin? I know she was born without original sin, but did she ever sin in her life?
Absolutely not. Mary was born free of original sin, and therefore, free of the concupiscence (the tendency to sin) that goes along with it (which we all share). This was a necessary grace needed in order to fulfill the huge role she had in mothering and raising Our Lord and Savior.Did Jesus’ mom, Mary, sin? I know she was born without original sin, but did she ever sin in her life?
You are right!.
I am surprised that St. John did not expound these very easily discernible truths in very direct terms in his Gospel - he lived with her and knew her and conversed with her at length and no doubt Mary shared amazing revelations that Jesus had given her. Perhaps she was told to remain silent about them for these latter days.

The Blessed Virgin’s sinlessness was not a matter of necessity. Rather, the Virgin Mary was immaculately conceived and preserved from sin by God’s grace because it was fitting for her to be so. Had God chosen otherwise, His choice would not have prevented the Incarnation. The Blessed Virgin was sinless. And she had to be. Only a sinless woman could have carried God in her womb.
Would that also imply that Christ’s work on the cross was completely unnecessary for her salvation?Good evening all. This is my first post here, so please excuse any errors I may commit in regards to the forum rules.
I would like to post a follow-up question to the resounding response of “Mary was sinless”.
Since Mary was born without original sin, and did not sin during the entirety of her existence, would that also imply that Christ’s work on the cross was completely unnecessary for her salvation?
