Just like those who believe in God and not just a religion.

Read your Bible. It does not say you need to follow a church or religion for a sure path to heaven. I am the way the truth and the life, he who believes in me will not parish but have eternal life. So who is this way truth and life? Its not the CC its Christ. So ya your wrong.
Amen to that.

Jesus is the Truth, and He established one Church so that we could hear the Truth accurately.

[1 Timothy 3:15](http://forums.catholic-questions.org/passage/?search=1 Timothy+3:15&version=NIV)
if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

He told the early leaders of that Church, “He who hears you hears me.” By listening to the Church, we recognize the voice of our Shepherd.

The Church, not the Bible, is the pillar and foundation of the Truth. 😉

If you didn’t read it in Scripture, how would you know that the Church is the pillar of truth?

I did not say that you are an atheist, and you take umbrage simply because you either do not understand or cannot refute my argument.

Fine.

Cya.
Wrong wrong wrong.
Your words,“Not, exactly,no. But you SHARE the CHARACTERISTIC of unbelief of diviniely revealed truth…you just REJECT less of it then an ATHEIST.”

It has nothing to do with me taking umbrage simply because I either do not understand or cannot refute your argument.

I will not be compared to or called a atheist. That is why is will not discuss this no longer with you.

When did the Anglican Communion Worldwide begin to accept active homosexual clergy and same sex unions as church practice? I don’t know of any accept the Episcopalians who are one single province amongst 38 and soon to be 39 others.

I think Mr. Lewis would be proud to know that Anglicans in African and South American diocese were growing by leaps and bounds and standing up strong for the Gospels. He’d be proud to be an Anglican today in the midst of all that is going on in the world today such as minor children being sexually abused by folks that they should trust the most without reasonable recourse. I can’t think of anything more evil and of the evil one himself.
:rotfl:

A few priests…a tiny fraction of the total…are accused of pedophilia with an even smaller number being actually guilty and somehow…that is equivalent to an entire “ecclesial community” reversing its doctrinal position on artificial birth control (Lambeth Conference 1930) or ordaining women and active homosexuals?

You’re saying personal, individual sins are the same as doctrinal errors by an entire denomination?

It’s not even close.

I don’t see what the fuss is all about. If Mary had no other children besides Jesus - fine. But so what if she did? Some have commented that Mary having sex with her husband somehow ‘disgraces’ (defiles) her (and her husband). That’s a ridiculous arguement.
We are thought that sex is a gift from God (the Church teaches ‘within the context of marriage’). If Mary was just like us ‘in all things, but sin’, then she probably had sexual relations with her husband - which, according the Church, is not sinful. Besides, I think the Church places too much emphasis on the status of Mary’s virginity, and virginity as a whole.)!
Sorry, but I’m going to have to disagree… I dont really think that the Church places much attention on Mary as a virgin at all. It is dogma, thats all -but I dont think it’s a major factor in anyones faith.

Why should we think of Mary as sexual anyways ? How could the faithful benefit from this ?
It appears to me that the Church has some growing up to do - when it comes to sex and women. Incidentally, I find it laughable that the act of masturbation is thought to be a ‘mortal’ sin - one could end up in hell - if one were to die prior to going to confession - for doing such a ‘dastartly’ deed. Of course, if you kill somebody, like an abortion and you go to confession - you’re liable to be with the Lord for ever (provided you didn’t masturbate just prior to dying, without benefit of an additional confession - then you’ll fry in hell for all eternity). Sometimes the Church and many of its followers get hung up on the legalise of the faith - kind of like the Jewish Lawyers of Jesus’ time (He repuked them many a times) - and they lose His message of Love:
In any case, I respect and honor Mary, the Mother of Jesus, whether she is a ‘perpetual’ virgin, or not. Just as I respect and honor Joseph, her husband, the Foster-Father of Jesus. He, too, said “Yes” to God, when he accepted Mary and her unborn Child that was not of his making, married her, and took them into his house. That took a lot of faith on Joseph’s part - whether he had sexual relations with his wife, or not. His role in God’s plan of salvation was of no less or greater significance than that of his wife.
I would imagine that Jesus gaves his earthly father alot more Kudos than his Church does - when compared to Mary. Finally, sex is a gift from God - like any gift of His we can use it for what He had intended it for, or abuse it. With much respect, however, I disagree with the Church’s contention that each single act of sex (masturbation) - even when repeated from time to time - constitutes a ‘mortal’ sin - with all the horrific conotations that entails! (Remember, it once was a mortal sin if we deliberately ate meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of the year- and it still is during Lent - another ridiculuous conotation)!
Does **God **consider certain mortal sins worse than other mortal sins ?

I understand that murder is much more emotionally viscious, and evil in the human perspective… But don’t you suppose the rules to get to heaven are solid ? Just because masturbation is easy to fall into, dosent make it o.k. I think it’s very possible to defeat this temptation -long term. I think… I’m only 32 though, and have a long road ahead of me. 😊

I can understand your emotion, but you have not understood my argument. An atheist denies all of the Truth; you deny a portion of it. Therefore, there is some degree of similarity.

My challenge is similar to yours. You must convince an atheist of the truth that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. I must convince you that Mary remained ever-virgin.

I can do the latter by first convincing you that the Church is infallible. You cannot do the former without that same infallible Church.

Are you telling me, that if I follow the Catholic Church faithfully, with all it’s doctrines and traditions, that I will go to hell ?

Sorry, I’ll have to re-phrase that !

Are you telling me, that if I follow Jesus’ teachings by using the Sacraments and traditions of the Catholic Church, -that I will go to hell ?

The bible says Jesus intercedes for us to the Father. Now through Jesus’ death we can go to the throne of grace boldly. We can go directly to the throne ourselves. The prayers in Rev are like incense to the Lord and offered on the alter before Him. We don’t need any other special merit we already have it in Jesus.

The prayers in Revelation are those of the saints both in heaven and on earth. Our prayers
Obedience to God is an act of human merit which entitles us to an eternal reward in strict justice. What you believe presupposes the existence of an unjust God. Perhaps you subscribe to the false Calvinistic doctrine of double predestination. That’s what I think, since you make the elect out to be passive puppets in God’s plan of salvation.

The prayers in Revelation are those of the saints both in heaven and on earth. These prayers are of intercessory value. When any of us are praying for the conversion of a friend or relative of ours, we are interceding on their behalf before God. Above in this thread, you concurred that the faithful can prayerfully intercede for others, although you rejected the belief that the saints can no longer intercede for others by their prayers in heaven, where Christ alone intercedes for us. Here you reject the idea of the saints interceding for us by their prayers altogether, either in heaven or on earth: we can go boldly to the throne of grace by ourselves without a need of the prayers of others. What exactly are the prayers of the saints if not intercessory? You contradict yourself, which indicates that you have a terribly deficient understanding of God’s written word and choose to believe whatever you wish at the slightest whim. Take heed, the scriptures are difficult to understand and can easily be distorted to one’s own destruction (2 Pet 3:16). Interpreting Scripture is not a matter of one’s own private interpretation. This task lies with the appointed Church leadership in a public capacity (2 Pet 1:20). Your confusion attests to the truth of this dictum.
No where in scripture are we told to pray to or through any person or being that is in heaven.
Please reflect on these passages for starters: Rom 15:30; 1 Tim 2: 1-3; 1 Cor 3:9; Phil 1;19; 1 Peter 2:5; James 5:16; Jude 23. Jesus intercedes for us in his humanity, and so we can participate in his principal mediation.

So I’ve replaced Jesus with his flock ?

Maybe it’s my fault that you think this… :o I should’nt have said that I follow the Church… Because I dont. I am part of the Church, and we follow Jesus. That is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.

I should know better than to post when I’m sooooo tired… 😃

Good-night all.

It was a simple yes the Bible a good message to live by or No it isn’t. I didn’t ask for all the other mumbo jumbo.

Which church did Jesus start you ask, well it didn’t have a “name” but he started Christianity. Right now I can’t remember who gave it the name Catholic but it wasn’t Jesus or Peter. The name came some time way after them.

Thats what I got out of the red words.

And now you go on about contraception which is not even the subject and I never brought up.
The Cathloic Church got its name in about 107AD

We only have salvation in the person of Jesus. There is no need for any other to assist in that process. It is the sole ability of Jesus to save us to Himself for His glory. There is no one else even able to fullfill that role.
By virtue of our baptism, we are a holy priesthood, called to offer spiritual sacrifices to God in and through Christ, the principal Mediator who has made our participation in his mediation possible in accordance with the will of the Father (1Pet 2:5). Priests intercede for one another in and through Christ before God. When Paul wrote There is one mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5), he used the Greek word heis (one) with the intention of assuring us that Christ is the one who has paid a ransom for us all in strict justice (v.6) thereby reconciling the world with God. If the apostle had intended to teach us that Christ is the “only” mediator, then he would have used the Greek word monos. And he certainly wouldn’t have instructed us to make intercession for each other by our prayers and supplications to God. (1 Tim 2:1-2). Of course, Jesus doesn’t need our help, but God desires that we participate in his work of salvation to glorify the Son as his true disciples. The Blessed Virgin Mary is our model in the order of grace.

For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus:
5 “One mediator”… Christ is the one and only mediator of redemption, who gave himself, as the apostle writes in the following verse.

6 Who gave himself a redemption for all, a testimony in due times. 7 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher and an apostle, (I say the truth, I lie not,) a doctor of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 I will therefore that men pray in every place, lifting up pure hands, without anger and contention. 9 In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire, 10 But as it becometh women professing godliness, with good works.

6 “a redemption for all”… He is also the only mediator, who stands in need of no other to recommend his petitions to the Father. But this is not against our seeking the prayers and intercession, as well of the faithful upon earth, as of the saints and angels in heaven, for obtaining mercy, grace, and salvation, through Jesus Christ. As St. Paul himself often desired the help of the prayers of the faithful, without any injury to the mediatorship of Jesus Christ.

So I’ve replaced Jesus with his flock ?

Your premise is that we should ask those who have died and are in heaven to pray for us. There is no direct or indirect indication that we should petition them. Our only heavenly directed petition is to the Lord only.

Rom 15:30; 1 Tim 2: 1-3; 1 Cor 3:9; Phil 1;19; 1 Peter 2:5; James 5:16; Jude 23. These are directing us here on earth to pray for those around us. We are to petition the the Lord on behalf of the brethren and those in authority. We are to make our needs known to Jesus in heaven.
