Dear lostsheepindeed,

Please do not doubt God’s mercy. I am like you in that I seem to almost enjoy beating up on myself for sins which have been confessed and forgiven.

Perhaps practicing a mortification of some sort would help you in overcoming this spiritual attack. I recently had a friend tell me about the wonders of practicing mortification has done for her. Of course it will be a challenge, but it would be much better for your soul than this constant torment your mind is putting your soul through.

You and your DH are in my prayers. May your soul receive the peace it so desperately needs right now.

:console:
God bless you!

Since there are more embryos left, the story with your IVF is not finished. You have forgiveness for previous IVFs, but I think you should discuss with your priest what to do next.

Remember - it is a grave sin to doubt God’s mercy! It is normal for you to feel consequences of your actions, but do not doubt the wonder of his love for you! If you want to do something good, try to find a pro-life organization and support it by donating or preaching.

The Church (at least around here) encourages the adoption of abandoned embryos, so I doubt there would be anything morally wrong with having them implanted. You should definitely meet with your priest for guidance, though.

I pray that you find the courage to run to the confessional and seek God’s forgiveness. The only sin that is unforgiveable is the one we are not sorry for and have no desire to stop. God bless!

I agree with everyone… go to confession, God is merciful and forgives the truely repentent.

Regarding the 5 embryos still frozen, if you are concerned about implanting them because of your age, or current situation, you may want to consider donating them to another couple so that they don’t need to commit the sin that you did. That might be one way of “making up”. Similar to a teenage girl who gets pregnant, and is unable to care for her baby, and courageously gives it up for adoption. As an adoptive mother, I am truly grateful to the two women who unselfishly shared their babies with me.

take care, and God bless

I agree with everyone as well. Offer up your pain and suffering over this for the conversion of others,. Find a priest or spiritual director you are really comfortable talking to for some counselling ,and continue to receive the sacraments - so many graces will be bestowed on you and with God’s help you can gather up your strength and courage to dissuade others from going down the IVF path. Think positive . You cant undue whats been done - but you are on the right path now and have the potential of saving lives by sharing your experience.👍

Consider going to a Healing Mass in your area with your husband and allow yourselves to be prayed over - its been my personal experience that there is no room for doubt that God loves us and forgives us!!!

God bless you!
