Did you hear Joel Osteen/Pentecostal pastor make fun of the Catholic Baptism?

I’m not really a fan of Joel. . . but I did happen to catch the beginning of that broadcast and left it on to here the joke since it referenced Catholics.

Basically it was about a man in a neighborhood who would bbq every day, and on Friday’s of Lent all his Catholic neighbors couldn’t stand the temptation of smelling the the cooking beef.

They worked on him, and finally converted him. At his baptism the priest said “You were born a Baptist, raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic.”

The next year during Lent, the Catholic neighbors smelled beef cooking. They peeked over their fences and saw the man sprinking his steak with water saying “You were born a cow, raised a cow, but now you are a fish.”

I didn’t find it very offensive, personally. It seemed like a well-intentioned stab at humor. If you listen to Joel’s jokes (here: youtube.com/watch?v=ttsnZ2HnCrw) with which he begins his broadcasts you find that he pokes fun at various denominations. I heard some Baptist jokes, etc.

It is not anti-Christian.

If anything, it points to the fact that some Christians do not hold true to their beliefs.

I can’t get into Olsteen’s mind or judge him, and I’m not doing that.

I am, however, pointing out that he is making light of a Sacrament established by Jesus Christ. It isn’t just this joke either. At the end of each of his broadcasts he asks his listeners to to say the Sinner’s Prayer and then declares them saved.

Again, whether Olsteen knows what he’s doing is wrong, I don’t know. I wish he was a Catholic deacon.

True, I have heard him make jokes in reference to other denominations.

You mean he asks people to accept Christ as the Savior? Your right, that is so blasphemous. Can you imagine what would happen if every minister or priest said that? CHAOS!😉

Mark 16:16 does not say that baptism is a requirement for salvation. I could say that he who believes and goes to church will be saved. That is true. But it is belief that saves, not belief and going to church. Likewise, if you believe and read your Bible, you’ll be saved. But it isn’t reading your Bible that saves you. Rather, belief in Christ, in His sacrifice, is what saves. Belief in what God has done, not what man can do, is what results in salvation. Baptism is simply a public demonstration of the inner work of regeneration. This is why the rest of the verse says, “…but he who does not believe will be condemned (damned) NKJV,” Mark 16:16 focuses on the issue of belief, not baptism.

“Going to church” is not in the Bible. The only reason your church has a building in which you fellowship on Sundays is because the church your church schismed from had one, and the church that your church schismed from had one, and the church that schismed from that church had one … and the Catholic parish from which the Calvinists schismed had one.

I take it as a joke in general not anything poking at Catholics. I will say I take him as more a motivational speaker than a teacher.

If you read what I said, I never said going to Church was in the Bible or a way to go to Heaven.

“Me” means Jesus and His Word, not you and your fallible interpretation of His Word. This is what you must do:

What ‘Word’ was Nacy Pelosi referring to? I’m guessing it’s not the RCC ‘Word’

Her fallible interpretation of the teachings of Jesus Christ, in which the “Word” guides her to support the death of the unborn.

This is why the Bible says there is One Faith, One Lord, One Baptism (Eph. 4:5). Both Olsteen and Pelosi omit “One Faith” by teaching their own human traditions; they also deny the One Baptism, Olsteen by omitting it from his sermons, and Pelosi by funding abortuaries which kill babies before they can be baptized.

Pray the Rosary to end abortion!
