Did you know a Catholic priest has a regular column on FoxNews.com?

The editorial appears to be leaning towards some candidates over others, which may be against the rules.

I remember Father Jonathan’s defense of Sean Hannity against Father Pavone’s criticism of his support for contraception. He needs to read the Catechism.

A priest should be allowed to be an occasional guest but not a regular contributor to secular media. It gives the appearance of political leanings and would violate many a no-no.

OOPS! :o

I think that should be Father Euteneuer rather than Father Pavone.

Agreed. I think we are seeing the truth than no one can serve two masters.

Ahh that’s OK! Rules don’t matter, right? I think if we all just do as we feel, things will be fine. There’s no need to recognize anyone’s authority in these matters.

I totally disagree! While I think that it must be a complete side occupation, a News Contributor is a great place for a devout Catholic priest. Priests are doctors, scientists, teachers, musicians, etc… If they serve the will of the Church and are obedient, there is no problem and can be a great service to mankind.

His attack on Fr. Eutenauer was, on the other hand, really distasteful! I was thuroughly embarrassed for him. I was further astonished by the fact that he is a Legionnaire of Christ and they are very strongly discouraged from directly and/or publicly antogonizing other clergy.

Moreover, I am sure that Jim and New Ulm are more concerned that a Catholic priest is orthodox, conservative, and on Fox News than they are that a Priest is on TV, in general.

If Fr. McBrien from Notre Dame or Fr. Charles Curran were a regular Fox News contributor or, more likely, a CNN contributor… they would probably be more inclined to positive reception of his punditry.

…or am I wrong???

I do like Fr. Jonathan. If you read his column, he tries to explain things from a Catholic perspective to those who do not understand our faith. I think he does a great job doing so. I have family members who are not Catholic (some are considered agnostic) and agree with what Fr. Jonathan writes (I think the Holy Spirit is getting to my family members)

In all, I do not agree with the Fr. Eutenaurer situation, but overall I do enjoy reading his column.

What really bothered me about the Father Fr. Eutenaurer situation is that Father Jonathan is an officialo in the Legionaries seminary. Thus his position defending Hannity presumably reflects what is being taught in their seminary.

Thi priest is hardly orthtodox, He supports, indirectly of course, contraception. And the war. He is a cafeteria catholic like Hannity. They exist on the left to be sure but don’t forget on the right too.

Hannity seems to be on his way out of the church anyway. LDS or Pentecostal - those seem to be his growing leanings.

since this priest is presumably an American citizen, and he is giving his opinion and not explicitly giving his opinion as Church Dogma, what’s wrong with it. Almost all the pundits give their opinion (even with glaring errors of fact). I can’t understand why a Catholic priest should not have the same right. Is this what freedom of speech all about - the airing (respectfully,of other views.

I think we have accepted the political correct atmosphere to readily - let’s be what we are and wsay what we mean.

I went to the link at Fox News and read some of Fr. Johnathan’s articles. I was impressed and enjoyed reading them. However, I’d really like to know how he defended Hannity on the contraception issue. It surprises me that a Legionary priest would support contraception as some posters on this thread have stated. Does anyone care to sum up for me what he said? Thanks!

Conjecture of this nature is not charitable. You do not know either one of the people being discussed. You do not know for a fact that either one of them is a “cafeteria” Catholic.

This priest isn’t orthodox??? Do you know who the Legionnaires of Christ are? I have been around them since childhood and have several friends who are very close to Fr. Jonathan. He is 100% orthodox! In the Fr. Eutenauer case, he was simply behaving badly and made some rash decisions. Never, though, did he defend Hannity on his week stances on moral issues.
