Did you marry someone of the same religion?

" But u have problem about a marriage that is lawful regarding even your own holy book. "

MuslimWoman, are you saying that it’s OK with you that children are being forced to marry men who are 40 years older? That it’s OK to force children to marry anyone?

You don’t always answer direct questions with a direct answer, but I hope you will here.

I never said that . No one should be forced in to marriage --this is not the teaching of Islam . If two parties give consent , when there are witneseses , when a husband gives Mahr to wife etc etc , this is considered as a valid marriage. If a person can’t pay back his money & the other party forces dad to arrange daughter’s marriage …does not matter how old is he or she , this is unIslamaic.

This has been answered many , many times…I don’t know how to give a more direct ans.

My standards have changed right along with my devotion to the church. If I ever marry again she will have to be a practicing Catholic.

Do you agree with other Muslims that a man’s marriage to a child (I think the girls are about 9 yrs old) is a valid marriage?

Do you believe that if the girl’s father (or mother and father?) agrees to this marriage that it is a valid marriage?

A simple yes or no answer is the most direct answer.

What, in Islam, is a valid marriage? What, in Islam is an iinvalid marriage? What, in Islam, is a forced marriage?

First link doesn’t exist. Second link, it’s an Inslamic site. Further, it doesn’t use the word “Christian” or terms “Christian woman.” It uses the word “women.”

And yes, we ALL KNOW and ACKNOWLEDGE that abuse of women is rampant. We at least have RIGHTS in this country, recourse, and a chance to get away.

Muslim women get away by… having been killed? Dunno. Maybe that’s just a media hyped extreme.

Muslim Woman, again, justify your religion and your life all you want, doesn’t make it right nor true. I will pray for you to see the Truth and what God wants for you.

Mentioned it several times earlier . Media don’t relate religion with crimes when criminals are non-Muslims. But the same media always do that when alleged criminals are Muslims. How it will look like to read /hear reports if media start mentioning religion each time ?

To give an idea , I write Christians before women & criminals when anybody wants to tell that in this world only Muslim Women are the victims/ tortured by men.

If girl does not object , parents also say yes , then it’s valid.
What, in Islam, is a forced marriage?
Take the example of Saudi Arabia case . Father was unable to return back the money ; so he arranged the marriage so that he does not have to pay back . About this marriage , girl’ mom said No. Don’t know about daughter .

Prophet advised us to take opinion of mom about daughter’s marriage as she knows about her choices . Prophet gave permission to a girl to end her maaried life because she complained that her dad did not take her permission .

In addition, our husbands are expected to be faithful to us, “in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health…”, so if I come down with an illness or disease, I can expect my husband to remain faithful and not take a second or third wife just because he may not be able to have sex whenever he wants. Catholic husbands are expected to have self-control and self-discipline in honoring their marriage vows. 👍

And to the OP: Yes, I married someone of the same religion and I thank God for him and our life together. 🙂
Jay, from what I understand about marriage under islam is that there are NO vows between a man and a woman. It’s more of a marriage contract.

funny…Bible allows fathers to sell daughters in to sex slavery …that’s fine with u . But u have problem about a marriage that is lawful regarding even your own holy book.**

Ah yes, lets take things out of context shall we.You show me where, in the bible, it shows that a daughter is sold into sex slavery. Noticed i highlighted the sex slavery for your benefit, cause i know what part of the bible your going to show me and it has nothing written about sex slavery there, so now, show me where it states about selling
your daughter into sex slavery…
Now here is some food for thought
Should i got into the amount of wives a man can have, including the amount of slaves he can have sex with, as written in the quran???
Women are tortured all over the world --my country ( Bangladesh) is not any exception. But may be , u will be happy to know that we have Women Prime Minister since more than a decade.

Now you bring your proof to the table about Christianity instead of bringing the stats that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Christianity.
Before you start accusing America of being violent, have a look in your own country and the way it treats women, as i pointed out with the snippet i took off the oxfam website.
Dolphinlove, I went to the two links Muslim Woman cited as “reference.” One of them doesn’t even work.

The other is an Islamic site and they don’t even use the word “Christian” or “christian woman” in their stats.

I suspect she has a database of links for “proof” against Christianity. Much of which is false information. Secondly, she doesn’t even check her sources to see if they’re valid and verifiable. I bet she hasn’t run across people who have actually gone to VERIFY her facts.

Exactly. Im sick to death of them claiming they are winning the debate when all they do is lie now, because there religion has no back bone.
They cant support their accusations with facts and figures, as they have to make this up as well.
Winning… ha, cheating never wins.

Really? Is it all about the contract and dowry - kind of like a business transaction? Maybe the Muslims here can answer - is there any ceremony where the bride and groom vow before God and the congregation that they will love each other etc. (obviously it’s not 'til death do they part since they have no problem with divorce or multiple wives)? Or does love not even enter into it?

I guess I do wonder how the women you have to wear burqas everywhere and can’t be alone with non-relative males ever get to know a prospective spouse. 🤷 Do they just get arranged marriages and the man has to hope he’s actually physically attracted to woman he’s been arranged to marry?

I’m not an exprent but it is more like a “business transaction”… 😛

They obtain a marriage contract. Marriage is considered a social contract rather than a sacrament, and the legal aspect of the union is stressed.

The groom give the bride some sort of gift and a nikah where they say to each other something like we will honor and value all islamic laws and practices.

Then their imam does his thing and that’s it.

Then off to a reception banquet where the males and females are seperate in different rooms… This part I don’t like…

And just like we give Jordan almonds to guests, they have a similar thing as well.

I’ve got to say that that position, that a girl (child) can be validly married is disgusting.
This and your refusal to denounce Muslim atrocities against non-Muslims (and mulsims alike, apparently) is beyond the beyond.

I see no reason to discuss this or anything else with you.

Yes, my husband and I were both in the ELCA when we married. Through conversations with his best friend (a devout Catholic), he became convinced of the Truth of the CC about two years after we married. I was against his conversion but agreed to go to RCIA to learn more. After a whole lot of research and soul-searching I became convinced of the Cc’s claim to authority, and we were both confirmed on 5/28/03.

I don’t know how “mixed” couples do it. It is so important to be on the same page in terms of morals, religious education, etc. Having a constant source of conflict in that area would be so rough.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 17:

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

When I got married, Allah’s Apostle said to me,

"What type of lady have you married?" I replied,

**"I have married a matron’ **

He said, “Why, don’t you have a liking for the virgins and for fondling them?”

Jabir also said: **Allah’s Apostle said, "Why didn’t you marry a young girl **so that you might play with her and she with you?’

Few points to ponder : 1. A Christian woman is beaten every 9 seconds in America, the most Christian society on the earth today.
  1. Some 2 million Christian women are beaten and abused in America each year…the number could be as high as 4 million each year
  2. 10% of the Christian victims were pregnant at the time of abuse.
  3. One in 3 Christian women is raped in her lifetime. (Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women, 1985)
In Christian countries flogging of disobedient women was so common that the size of the whip was regulated by law – no thicker than a man’s thumb.

Pity the woman whose husband had a large hand!

Your stats are not relevant here. There is no argument that in every culture, the ugly abuse of women is present. The difference is that in the US/western nations it is illegal, and the law will do what it can to prosecute men who abuse women. The US also protects womens civil rights so that women have the same rights as men. The Catholic Church considers the abuse or oppression of women a sin. So yes, you are correct in that the abuse of women is present within Catholic families and within the west, the difference is that it is not tolerated here.
Re your comment about it being ok for a 9 yr old to marry a 40 yr old because the 9 yr old gave consent is laughable. A 9 yr old will do whatever their parents tell them to do (regarding life issues, not referring to eating their string beans). Moderate Muslims need to stand up for womens and childrens rights.

BTW–I married an AOG Pentecostal (converted from RCC). Since religion was not important to me at the time we were married, I agreed that our children could be raised Pentecostal. We do go to both churches and in fact all my kids were baptized into the RCC at birth and have gone to CCD. Religion has become more of an important aspect of my life.

Wasn’t your female Prime Minister shot to death by Islamic fundamentalists? Also I have heard that in Bangledesh, acid throwing as become a popular way for males to get back at females who reject marriage proposals and such, how do you view this? I am asking for your opinion on the status and situation of women in Bangledesh? Do you think it has anything to do with Islam? I also have noticed that the worst offenders of human rights are mostly Communistic (or post Communistic) and/or Muslim countries.

I wanted you to read this Muslim woman:

Unless we go beyond such rhetoric and critically examine what is wrong with Muslim world we will continue with such rhetoric without improving our condition. And if criticized for our failures we will come out with our pet conspiracy theory or blame the media for projecting adverse image of Islam and Muslims. We have fallen in such a love with these pet theories that we refuse to see reality. We love rhetoric and hate reality.

Muslim woman I made a mistake. I confused your female prime minister with one from Pakistan.
