Did your Bishop, Priest, or Minister talk about Terri Schiavo from the pulpit Today?

My priest is strongly pro-life and includes the pro-life message in his homilies. He has even gone as far as getting models of babies at various stages in wombs and going around the congregation in his homilies. He voiced strong need for us to support only pro-life political candidates. Also, he is instrumental in establishing a Right to Life Chapter in this county.

However, as today was Easter Sunday, he focused on the resurrection. I have not talked to him, but believe that Terri did not fit to his homily message today. Perhaps, it was just an oversight.

The MOST our pastor will say concerning the Terri case or abortion for that matter is,protect life from its “Natural beginning to its natural end”.

Sadly, Father never mentions anything specific about the Right to Life issues.

The Priest at the Parish I have been attending included Terri in his homily on Holy Thursday and also Today - Easter Sunday. He supports Terri and Life, 100%.

Father Dave had to fight this fight about 18 months ago. His father was dying of cancer. The other children (10 of them) wanted to remove his feeding tube. Thank God Father Dave had power of attorney and refused. He had to continually fight his siblings and they refused to help him financially or physically. Father had to take a leave from the Parish and be his fathers caregiver. He died three months later when the cancer moved to his brain.

Needless to say, Father Dave has been a very outspoken supporter of Terri!!!

Absolutely. During Good Friday service, our priest compared Christ’s crucifixion to those being “crucified” today. He said “We should also think of those who are still being crucified today…on a hospital bed in Florida, today…” and then there was a pause of dead silence, during which everyone took in what he had said and how powerful it was. He went on with this message, talking about Terri. It was wonderful. I loved how he “said it like it is.”

During the Easter Vigil another priest also spoke of her, encouraging us to pray for her and defending her right to life and basic sustenance.

I live in Australia and our pp yesterday (Easter Sun. here ) mentioned Terri for the first time but only more or less in passing. His ‘hot topic’ is the shocking refugee situation here. I thought for a moment when he said Terri Schiavo that he would go into the situation - but it was only really a passing comment. This really surprises me because he is a very well informed person from listening to him, and Terri’s plight and her need for prayer has been an issue in our local press for a while now. Although I heard of her plight first from the internet. I find it (I can’t think of a word!) absolute shock to say the least that a person who is disabled - a complete and helpless innocent - is being starved to death with death taking up to a fortnight and in our own day.

Our pastor mentioned Terry in the Good Friday sermon in the context that the Romans torturers gave a condemmed man something to drink, but our ‘enlightend’ culture would deny that to a helpless woman.

He also included that Catholic position on Terry in his weekly letter in the parish bulletin. That providing food and water is NOT ‘extraordinary treatment’

Our priest finally said something(s). He said something on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil! He did not mention her specifically by name, so I’m wondering if he knew the pronunciation… But he specifically talked about the woman being starved to death in Florida. He questioned the motivation of starving her when all she needed was food and water and tried to show a parallel with the motivation of those who crucified Christ. He is at least speaking about it!

I think one of the pastors said something on Good Friday…something about knowing when to die. I was listening intently for some reference and maybe I read it in, but it seemed he was implying that *Terri *should go quietly, as if she had any say in the matter at this point. It would be par for the course. I never can discern what my pastors and deacons are saying, yet I can understand JPII’s writings or an EWTN homily…why not my own pastors? But I’ve complained about all that here before. 😦

sadly, even though she was starving on palm sunday and easter and all of the holy week celebrations, we got no mention of it in my parish. i was more than a little bit upset when i realized that were not even going to give her an intention during the prayers of the faithful. i find that very upseting that in a catholic parish that does speak out against abortion, there is not mention of this poor women starving to death down in florida
