Not true. Divided into three parts (Vigils/Office of Readings, Lauds and Vespers) it is the hymn for the 34th week in Ordinary Time, in the Liber Hymnarius, the official post-Vatican II hymnal for both the Roman and Monastic Offices.
I don’t see where folks are getting that the Dies Irae is used for Nov. 2nd. My Y2K Editio Typica (Latin) LOTH indicates that the Office of the Dead is to be used Nov. 2nd. All my other versions of the LOTH concur with this (Christian Prayer, 4-wk LOTH in French, Monastic LOTH various versions…)
And at the abbey I am affiliated with, anybody is free to attend any of the Monastic Offices, and in fact they are quite well-attended.

Yes, I decided to start doing Advent Vespers in lieu of a Lessons and Carols service. So much less music to learn.
US edition of the liturgy of the hours. Vol IV Proper of Saints for Nov. 2. Optional replacement for the hymn.

And so much more in the mind of the church. Lessons and carols is nice, but LOTH is just awesome, and designed to be publicly celebrated.

I see that explains it as I don’t have that version of the LOTH as I pray the LOTH in Latin and French. I do have the 1-volume US version, Christian Prayer, but it doesn’t indicate that option.
