is the Dies Irae used in the OF in any of its liturgies?
Yes, as the Hymn for the Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, and Evening Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours for Nov. 2.is the Dies Irae used in the OF in any of its liturgies?
Except for public celebrations of the Liturgy of the Hours on November 2nd.Not for any public celebrations.
Which are extremely rare.Except for public celebrations of the Liturgy of the Hours on November 2nd.
Unfortunately.Which are extremely rare.
For now. smirks mischievouslyUnfortunately.

I’ll be in on these plans any day.Do tell me that you have a Solemn Vespers Master Re-Introduction Plan.
Oh, yes, I do…Do tell me that you have a Solemn Vespers Master Re–Introduction Plan.
(in some kind of an accent) The plan is to get first Vespers of Sundays, starting in English recto tono, then English Mundelein Psalter, then in—heaven forbid—LATIN chant. dun–dun–dun Then the other hours shall follow. Then maybe polyphony. MUAHAHA!I’ll be in on these plans any day.Joseph, you are totally my style…
So, let’s get the solemn Vespers master plan for this master of ceremonies…
Excellent! MUAHAHAHAHA!Oh, yes, I do…(see below)

It’s my secret plan to get Latin used, without ruffling the folk choir’s feathers.![]()
Not true. Divided into three parts (Vigils/Office of Readings, Lauds and Vespers) it is the hymn for the 34th week in Ordinary Time, in the Liber Hymnarius, the official post-Vatican II hymnal for both the Roman and Monastic Offices. Not for any public celebrations.
Yes, I decided to start doing Advent Vespers in lieu of a Lessons and Carols service. So much less music to learn.Excellent! MUAHAHAHAHA!
US edition of the liturgy of the hours. Vol IV Proper of Saints for Nov. 2. Optional replacement for the hymn.I don’t see where folks are getting that the Dies Irae is used for Nov. 2nd. My Y2K Editio Typica (Latin) LOTH indicates that the Office of the Dead is to be used Nov. 2nd. All my other versions of the LOTH concur with this (Christian Prayer, 4-wk LOTH in French, Monastic LOTH various versions…)
And so much more in the mind of the church. Lessons and carols is nice, but LOTH is just awesome, and designed to be publicly celebrated.Yes, I decided to start doing Advent Vespers in lieu of a Lessons and Carols service. So much less music to learn.
I see that explains it as I don’t have that version of the LOTH as I pray the LOTH in Latin and French. I do have the 1-volume US version, Christian Prayer, but it doesn’t indicate that option.US edition of the liturgy of the hours. Vol IV Proper of Saints for Nov. 2. Optional replacement for the hymn.
Sounds good to me.Oh, yes, I do…(see below)
