good link. You should read it… I don’t see EATING anything as a mortal sin!!!
Thanks for the link. .
Here’s a quote from the link:
secondexodus.com/html/catholicdefinitions/fridayabstinence.htm
This is the quote: “Since 1966, All Fridays during Lent remain obligatory days of abstinence from meat on pain of mortal sin. "
Scroll down the page to CHurch teaching and you will see:
"Church Teaching
As the centuries passed, the original requirement to fast twice a week was reduced. But, during the Church’s entire history, until 1966, all Fridays have been obligatory days of abstinence from meat on pain of mortal sin.

Since 1966, All Fridays during Lent remain obligatory days of abstinence from meat on pain of mortal sin. All other Fridays remain days of penance. "
Of course, my point still holds whether it is a mortal sin or a venial sin to eat meat in certain dioceses on Good Friday. The point is that this teaching does not agree with the Scriptural statement that it is not what goes into the mouth of the man which defiles him. In the case of eating meat on Good Friday, if you put a hot dog in your mouth, you would be committing a sin, and therefore you are being defiled by putting the meat into your mouth.

good link. You should read it.
A mortal sin: CCC 1857 “Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”
  1. GRAVE MATTER - eating meat on Friday IS NOT A GRAVE MATTER - no matter how you read between the lines it is NOT a GRAVE matter. What is a GRAVE MATTER? well read through your link again and it explains!!!
CCC 1858 “Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: ’Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.’ The gravity of sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.”
mmm… I don’t see EATING anything as a mortal sin!!!
Thanks for the link. Let’s move on to your mass questions.
He isnt going to read it, We all tried, he dont care. he sees what he wants to see. He hears what he wants to hear. Then he keeps repeating him self. He must think its funny, its not. But i guess this is fun to him. Oh well i told him the truth, you did others did he dont want to hear the truth, he want to spread his truth, taking scripture out of context is his thing. He gets a kick out of it i guess.

I am reading what you say, but it is not what the Catholic Pope Paul VI has said. Why should not a Catholic follow what the Pope says? Why is it considered disrepectful to follow what his Holiness the Pope has written?

You really think you are cute huh? I wonder how cute God thinks this is? To all of you Good people thank you for trying but im outta here. God Bless,

You are not quoting from church doctrine however. Read Pope Paul VI PAENITEMINI and tell me where it says “mortal sin”.
It does not and is not.
ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/p6paen.htm
It says: “Their substantial observance binds gravely.”
Binds gravely. What does binds gravely mean to you?
In any event, do you agree or not as to whether or not, in some dioceses, it is at the very least a venial sin to deliberately eat meat on Good Friday? (I think it is a mortal sin, but I am just asking this question for you to see if I can followup somehow.)

rinnie - I agree with you. It is frustrating, now I know how my wife feels when I can’t balance the checkbook.

Bobzills - you are stuck on the scripture “what comes out of his mouth” (what scripture is that?) Let’s re-read this again and see what it is exactly talking about, - ok.

Is this another one of your disrespectful statements against our Faith?
These, of course, are all ad hominem arguments, which simply attack me, but do not address the issues raised by the discussion under question.

many things are venial sin. Everything that is not mortal is venial to look at it very easily. So is it a sin NOT to follow the church’s teaching? Yes. Is it a sin to get angry at your fellow man? I say no - because Jesus got “preturbed” !! Is it a sin to lie? Yes.
Is is a sin to steal? Yes Gossip? Yes.
Eat meat on Fridays when your diocese says to abstain? Yes!! surprise!!

See Matthew 15:11.

Well, this is my point. If it is a sin to put meat into your mouth on a Friday in Lent, then how does this relate to:
Matthew 15:11.

Ha. Ha. If you don’t want to believe your own eyes, then I can’t help it. The photos are there: Archbishop Alois Kothgasser of Salzburg, Austria, second from the left, joins hands with a clown at the altar during a Mass on October 16, 2004.
And there are many other pictures available, proving that there have been clown Masses.
And there have been monkey Masses, Halloween Masses, with Eucharistic servers in Satanic costumes, mariachi band Masses, cowboy Masses, dancing girl Masses, nudie Masses, Chinese dragon Masses, etc. My point is that these type of joyful Masses, not just the clown Mass, in the Catholic Church today do not support the Biblical teaching that sorrow is better than laughter, This is the question: Is there a difference between Catholic teaching and the teaching in the Bible? I submit that these type of Masses do not promote the teaching that sorrow is to be preferred over laughter.
The bible teaches that sorrow is better than laughter? What bible are YOU reading from? ROFL

See the New American Bible. Sponsored by the Bishops’ committee of the confraternity of Christian doctrine:
Ecclesiastes 7:3
“Sorrow is better than laughter…”
The type of Masses that I have referenced above do not support this teaching, In fact, they appear to be contrary to it.

Well, you’ve been told over and over it’s not about the meat, it’s obedience, it’s practicing self-denial. But you seem stuck on ONE verse Matt 15:11. It’s not the meat which defiles, but failure to do the penance. Only God knows if you willingly, purposely set out to disobey.

2 Chronicles 30:25
The entire assembly of Judah rejoiced, along with the priests and Levites and all who had assembled from Israel, including the aliens who had come from Israel and those who lived in Judah.

See what happens when you sling verses around?

Thanks for the verse, I just didn’t have it off the top of my head.

I am clueless how you relate this to meat.
Read on down - oh read through the end of the chapter and then get back with me on what you are understanding.

If you actually believe that, then you deserve what you get in your life. Sheesh.
