Difficulties with Baptists.

As far as landmarkists go, I’d become Catholic before I became one of them. It’s not true that ALL Landmarkists believe the CC is the Whore of Bablyon, but it’s not much of a stretch. Landmarkists believe that Baptists are the one true church, and they deny or downplay the “universal church” idea.

Needless to say, I’m not a Landmarkist.

One of the earlier posters said there is no basis for dialogue between Catholics and Baptists. That is not true. Here’s a joint Baptist- Catholic statement:

They don’t believe in one ekklesia they believe churches and where the scripture is speaking singularily it means a specific geographical church unless its in heaven. Thought that is an interesting colaberation. Thanks for it.

I have dialoged with a Landmarker Baptist preacher in Florida and I must agree. They are usually five point Calvinists and are mostly anti-Catholic and anti-anyone-but-them – especially other Baptists! Regarding Baptists in general, I’m from a Southern Baptist family and, while there are sometimes anti-Catholic under currents, it is usually due to misinformation about what Catholics really believe. Further, if what they have been told about us were true, then I would never have become a Catholic myself. It has been my experience that spending five or ten minutes explaining Catholic doctrine usually clears up those misconceptions – at least with Baptist Christians who truly love their fellow men.
Here in south Alabama, our Catholic Church partners with other denominations (primarily Baptists since they are the majority denomination) in efforts against poverty, abortion, etc.
