So, I went out with this girl again last night for dinner. This is the second date; the first one was a coffee date. I think it went well - we had dinner and talked until we were the last people in the restaurant. Then I walked her to her car. But, I didn’t get a kiss? It was just a hug. I guess she’s making me work for that first kiss, huh?

A hug is fine–especially a friendly hug. But you realize, don’t you, that initiating a kiss is up to you? That’s the point where you may get shot down, of course, but it is your call to try or not try. It takes a pretty forward woman to go for a kiss (not that some of us aren’t forward–but you’ll cull out the shy girls if you expect women to initiate kisses).

Bear in mind that a kiss is really intimate. Ask yourself, would I share an ice cream cone or a milk shake with this woman? If you wouldn’t share slurps of a shake with her, then a kiss is probably too much.

You seriously expect a kiss on the second date?! Are you kidding?

You, sir, have warped expectations. Physical manifestations of love such as that should be reserved at least until you are committed to each other, or else its value is cheapened incredibly.

But you realize, don’t you, that initiating a kiss is up to you?
And please, don’t ask her before you initiate. You initiate, but it has to kind of be a mutual move, like it’s so obviously the next “step” that anything else would be a sour note. If you ask first, that’s kind of nerdy. Remember, women like confidence.

Depending on how he asks, it could come across as extremely confident to be able to come out and say it and also considerate to not push himself onto her and let her be free to say no.

Besides, some women LOVE nerds 😃

Duh ! Please! if she lets you kiss her on the second date, she is going to think ‘What does he expect on the third?’

When a Catholic woman dates, and wants to wait until marriage, she knows that the sooner you start kissing, the sooner you have to fight off sexual advances. Not that you are a bad guy, but like all men you have temptations

Yep and Yep.

👍

You probably shouldn’t be so quick to start kissing, especially on the second date. The sooner you start kissing, the sooner you have to start fighting off temptations to kiss passionately and fornicate. Maybe you should wait a little while. For now, just a friendly hug is fine.

My question is…why are people talking about dating on the Catholic Forum.

I think everything should be Christ/Catholic centered. So I think it is good that he is coming to other Catholics rather than separating the dating thing from his faith. After all the point of dating is to determine who a person will marry. And the point of marriage is to reflect Jesus’s love for the Church. 🙂

Yes, I think that’s right. It’s possible to ask confidently.

Next time?

We don’t just talk about Catholicism. That might get old after a while. 😉 We have lives outside of church. We talk about our families, our personal lives, etc. We talk about everything. 👍
