Okay, so from what I understand about The Fall - it brought physical death to humanity, and corrupted the harmony of all creation.

So, then how would dinosaurs be able to die, if they existed before humans did ?

That’s easy. They didn’t die. In fact, they lived so long their bones turned to stone. Which explains fossils.

I believe death refered to humans who unlike dinosaurs and animals are creatures with souls that are also spirits. Animals and plants dying and regenerating nature would be a cycle of nature which God created and put in place when on the first day He said “Let their be light”. As the sun and stars were’nt created until the fourth day I believe the “light” created on the first day referred to the natural sequence of things non- human. Man may have evolved through nature being a mere animal creature until God breathed a spirit into him at which time he would no longer be an animal but a being created in the image of God in that he now had a spirit. God is a pure spirit, Angels are pure spirits. Man is both man and spirit.

The second law of thermodynamics (a system tends towards thermodynamic equilibrium, such that our bodies lose heat, then breaks down, to became at a thermal and chemical balance with the surrounding environment…among other things) is binding on all material Creation pre-Fall and post-Fall. Death is natural to Earth, only pre-Fall humans had the grace to survive death. After the Fall, man became subject to the law of entropy along with the rest of material Creation.

“Now God, who is the author of man, is all-powerful, wherefore when He first made man, He conferred on him the favour of being exempt from the necessity resulting from such a matter: which favor, however, was withdrawn through the sin of our first parents.
Accordingly death is both natural on account of a condition attaching to matter, and penal on account of the loss of the divine favor preserving man from death.” – Summa Theologiae, II-II:164:1 ad 1.

keyword is humanity. Animals aren’t people.

The real reason dinos disappeared is because God was tired of playing with them, just like many of us did as kids. Or even now as adults. Man was created for God. We were created in His image. He liked dinos, so did we. He created the real things and we couldn’t play with them because it would have been too dangerous. So it was them or us. Maybe tongue-in-cheek, but yet so simple. 😃

I was under the impression all living things have souls, but only humans have rational souls ?

The real reason that dinosaurs became extinct. Personally, I think that weeds died in the garden of Eden and man lived. The fall reversed that.

Yes all creatures have souls which is their life principle, Souls that annimate their bodies. But only humans have souls that are also spirits.

Spirit and soul are not the same thing.Spirit is a partless, spaceless immortal being which can know and love. Soull means principle of life in a living body; man has the only soul that is a spirit, the only spirit that is a soul. Frank Sheed “Theology for Beginners”

I always try to remember that there was a time when science (as much as it was at the time) said that the Earth is flat. I do not believe that the fossil record displays all the history of the biology, and really can not. I do not believe is necessary that animals eat each other in order to live. Animals changed, then some started to scavenge then from there they started to kill and became carnivorous. Noahs flood produced most of the fossil record.

Exactly. In fact, if one studies large carnivores such as the T-Rex, one quickly comes to the conclusion that their claws and teeth are perfectly designed for breaking open and consuming coconuts.

Correction on one thing. Science has never said the Earth is flat. Thats one of the greatest prevailing myths about the middle ages.

By who?

Thales of Miletus, cca 550 BC, a great mathematician, actually the first scientist, he believed the earth is flat. There is a quite popular geometry theorem that he discovered and is learned nowadays in middle/high school, Thales Theorem of Similar Triangles. It is true that some people in the middle ages used his views to understand nature.
