Alcohol meaning surgical grade alcohol - which is 90%+ alcohol. Not wine. Wine is maybe 10-15%. It kills some germs yes, but as a means of real sterilisation? Forget it.One of the other physical properties of alcohol is to sterilize. And the property of the Eucharist is to heal both the body and soul of those with Faith.
One of the recommendations to PREVENT swine flu is to use alcohol to sterilize areas of potential transmission.
The swine flu has been reported to be no more dangerous than any other flu.
Different strain of virus, very virulent. Our Bishop has put a ban on Communion on the tongue. I understand his concern for every ones health but I am devastated. For me, communion in the hand just feels wrong, wrong, wrong. I believe in the real presence. How could anyone become sick from Jesus. If it did happen I guess that would be the will of God. I was just starting to dream that I might have a chance to receive while kneeling. I don’t know how I will get through this. I guess I will pray, pray, pray. How did we ever get through all the other flu seasons. Thousands die from the flu every year. Why is this so different? It seems like this is just another excuse to take away our traditions. Devastated in Wisconsin

I repeat, other flus are NOT serious enough to kill healthy adults. Swine flu is, and it has done, as far as I am aware.
The seriousness of the swine flu is clear from the actions of the Mexican government. They too have normal influenza outbreaks, but don’t resort to closing down all shops, schools and churches for them. Unlike the swine flu.
Clearly they have sources of information that you seem to be unaware of or are not listening to, as well as the evidence of actually seeing the suffering and dead that you don’t have, that tells them that this thing is very serious. And unless you want the same in America, you’ll listen to them and take these precautions.
There there pet. No-one is trying to take away the Catholic traditions. Its good for you. You should know, the Catholic bishops (I know sweeping generalisations are dreadful) have been a bastion of Catholic tradition for the last 40 years, resisting attempts from all sides, to modernise Catholic teaching. Thank God for our great bishops!First, ditch the conspiracy theory. Nobody is trying to take away our traditions. This is simply a public health issue, no more, no less.
The quote I posted earlier from Redemptionis Sacramentum would seem to indicate that, no, the Bishop doesn’t have that authority:Does the Bishop have the authority to restrict people from recieving on the tongue? I thought the Magisterium stated that no one could deny this to someone. Might be missing some info here.
Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice, if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful.
Sorry mate, I think you’ve missed my point. That was sarcasm.Glad you agree.![]()
Yes, but who “closed” them. the state? the Church? And Masses were said. I personaly have a friend who was in mexico city and went to Mass during the hight of the outbreak while on an extremely long layover. Most of the reports I read said that Churches were empty? Who closed them?Mexico had to close churches (and shops and schools etc) entirely for a time - means no Masses were said at all. I don’t know whether they’ve reopened or what they’re doing now if so. In any event, whatever they might be doing it IS preferable to err on the side of caution - unless you want churches to be forced to close entirely in parts of the US too, of course..
A search for tongue brings up nothing on the website…The Diocese of Superior Wisconsin
M’kay. I agree that there have been many “questionable”, shall we say, bishops. “Complete disgrace”? Perhaps a bit strongly worded, methinks.Sorry mate, I think you’ve missed my point. That was sarcasm.
This is me being serions: the bishops of the western world, for the last 40 years, have been a complete disgrace. They have allowed the almost complete degeneration of the faith of most people of Western civilisation. They continue to allow it.
If only we’d had an Archbishop Lefebvre, or Bishop Castro de Mayer in every diocese: those were truly great men.
Recommended reading: The Mouth of the Lion (slow to get into, but well worth it), and the Horn of the Unicorn. Both by Dr David Allen White.
wooohoooooo i second that!!!Sorry mate, I think you’ve missed my point. That was sarcasm.

Read the books mate - that’ll make your eyes roll into the back of your head.and were extra ecclesiam.
You’d have a church of schismatics with those men.
They weren’t great men. They were disobedient to the Roman Pontiff. that is the fact.
This forum truly astounds me, sometimes.
