Diocese of Austin Texas Cancels Planned Parenthood Rabbi Service

This is an update regarding developments in the Austin Diocese and the “Planned Parenthood Rabbi” situation.

*AUSTIN, September 16, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - After LSN ran a detailed investigative report yesterday drawing attention to the fact that a Rabbi who is on the board of Planned Parenthood in Austin was to lead Jewish worship services at a Catholic Church, the diocese of Austin in Texas has canceled the event planned for Saturday.

Austin Bishop Joe Vásquez has directed that the services of Yom Kippur for the congregation of Temple Beth Shalom not take place as planned at St. Louis Catholic Church on September 17 and 18.

Personally, I think we should seek to have a fruitful and charitable dialogue with our Jewish brothers at every reasonable opportunity. I have only the highest regard for the Jewish people and the most steadfast support for the state of Israel. However, this particular situation was obviously way out of control and antithetical to our collective work to oppose the contemporary Shoah of abortion.

I’m really proud of our bishop here.
 
I went to that church for all souls day. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I can totally see that paster doing such a thing.

I’m glad Bishop Vasquez, who used to be an auxiliary bishop for my home diocese of Galveston Houston, also pointed out the inappropriateness of a non-christian community using a Catholic church, and although I could totally be wrong on this, but I don’t see a Jewish community reciprocating.

I agree, and as I expressed similar sentiments in an earlier thread regarding this issue, it is in the realm of sacrilige to allow ministers of any theology that denies the divinity of Christ to have a pulpit or a voice in a Holy Space consecrated for what is supposed to be One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. It is outrageous on just that alone, but then add on the fact the Rabbi is on board with abortionists, the whole thing is an affront. We can and should build bridges, but never open the flood gates!

IMO, the Bishop made the correct action.
