Discerning spirits

I’m just asking because everything I have read in your posts so far is negative. On one hand you seem to accept the possibility of prophets, apparitions etc., but on the other hand you seem to dismiss all reports of such as works of the devil. And I am wondering what apparitions you do in fact accept and how you know they are true.
I am not claiming all are false,I am merely pointing out the Scriptures tell us not to believe every spirit, but to test everything and quoting the methods for testing as written in Scriptures. Too many people forget to “test” against the Scriputres.

Perhaps they don’t know what the Scriptures say. For whatever, reason, they begin to follow trusting feeling instead of testing, or in the case of Catholics, instead of waiting for the RC to investigate and make a decision.

What Roman Catholic apparitions do you accept now that you have tested the spirits of the apparitions?

lol I am no longer Catholic. I have not encountered any of these “Mary” apparitions, so I have not tested them. However, I can tell you one that I definitely believe is an imposter - Caritas of Burmingham.

The Bishop issued this statement December 10, 1999:

*As Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham, I have not, nor would I ever, discourage or have any objection to the people praying in the field. They are devout Catholics.
…
Since the **visions of Medjugorje are still under investigation ***relative to their authenticity by the Holy See, I should not give any sign of approval nor associate with events connected with these visions.

A lot of Catholics are following this apparition without waiting for an official declaration of its authenticity.

I think following the guidelines set up in Scriptures would reveal it is false. Unfortunately, these people have run ahead of God and the Church.

I am a bit concerned this thread will become about Catholic apparitions. The problem is much more wide-spread and serious among non-Catholics - particularly charismatics, who seem far to eager to believe every claim the hear as long as it agrees with their theology.

I am not making a blanket claim here, but it should be obvious many of those people are dillusional.

I once saw a woman (in a video, I don’t attend such unchristian events) preaching about serving God (the sentiment was in the right place - we should go out in the world and preach the gospel of Jesus boldy)

She told of her encounter with God (mind you, this is in a “christian” church filled with people who want to serve God)

“God told me, (name here), I want you to howl for me. Can you do that for me (name here)? Lord, I can’t do that!!! The lord said, (name here) if I can’t trust you to do this small request in the privacy of your own home, how can I trust to send you out into the world? Oowoooh!”

Yeah, the woman then began to howl in front of everyone, and would you believe her audience joined in??? The whole room was “howling for god”!!

I think this woman was sincere. But I don’t believe it was the God of Abraham who asked her to howl.

Now that example was (or at least should have been) easy to spot as a false god working in these people. But if you told them that they would accuse you of blaspheme against the Holy Spirit which is unforgivable.

However, false spirits are not always that obvious. In fact, I’m pretty sure they weren’t that obvious in there first contact with this woman. They quote Scriptures and say many things you would like to hear and once they have deceived you they use you to mock God.

Thats interesting. I’m going to give you an encounter with an apparition and I want you to test it and tell me if it is true or false.

lol How are you going to give me an “encounter”? Perhaps I can share with you why I believe “Our Lady” is a fake. Afterall, there are rules on this forum I must follow so I would just as soon use an example the church has not approved.

Here are some statements made by “Our Lady”, followed by Bible verses.

“I invite you to dedicate your life to me.” - 11/27/1986

The Bible says we should commit our lives to God:
Pro 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Jam 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Rom. 6: 22 -23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Jos 24:15 … as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Nowhere in Scripture are we told to dedicate our lives to Mary!!

“the way of salvation that I am offering you through these apparitions.” - 7/25/1995

We are saved by grace, not apparitions.
Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

The Virgin Mary would not contradict Scripture.
" if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them." (Isa 8:20)
“Our Lady” is not one in the same as the Virgin Mary. She is an imposter, imo.

Or are you suggesting you will tell me something and I should say whether you are telling the truth or lying? If that’s the case I think a review of the forum rules is needed. 👍

After a bit of consideration, I believe I have said all I have to say on this subject within the first page. The Scriptures were written with a purpose, one of which is to instruct us. I can’t say anything more than what the Scriptures have already stated.

Have a great weekend, all. 🙂

It might be a good idea for you to quit the thread. Your problem from the beginning seems to be that you pick common knowledge (discerning/testing spirits), and then pretend everyone needs a lecture on it, and back up your pretense with something like…
I can’t count how many times I’ve heard someone claim that they encountered a woman and because she was so beautiful they knew she was A. an angel from God or B. Mary the mother of Jesus.
…which doesn’t match up people personal experience. I doubt you’ve met any more people who mistake some beautiful woman for an angel than the average person has met…which is VERY VERY few if any.

Sometimes when people leave the church, they are overcome with a desire to search out those who are still in the church and lecture them about one thing or another; that may be the case here, even though you went through the motions of including non Catholics and angel visions. You see the same thing with atheists hanging out on Christian sites all the time. Oftentimes it seems the lectures are are more intended to convince the lecturer than the lectur-ees .

You may want to re-think your own perspective here.

And here it is; The witnesses and yourself know the very same things once you read this link. Please discern the spirit of this apparition for me. Is it true or false?
