I’m so discouraged now…
I’m 19 and have been trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with my life. I currently am a construction/lead abatement worker, and I somewhat like it, and it pays well.
But, as I’ve gotten through one spiritual struggle after another, finally to the point where I am convinced of the Catholic Church’s claim of being God’s true Church on Earth, but…
I really love the traditional Anglican Church I attend, and I’m afraid to tell my priest that I’m an Anglo-Papist. At one time I was attending RCIA classes, but it was just not deep enough, like the Catechism I was reading. And plus, the Anglican church’s liturgy and Mass were so beautiful and traditional compared to the local Catholic Mass.
On top of that, there is so much pressure from my Protestant family not to go all the way and become Roman Catholic (It’s bad enough for them that I’m Anglican).
And also, at work, co-workers are constantly telling me that I’m hypocritical. My boss, with whom I am actually close friends with, tells me that, while he does believe the Catholic Church is the original Church of God, no-one is capable of living up to God standards, and, therefore, God will overlook everyone sins, just so long as they follow the Golden Rule, etc…
And then, worstly, I am constantly enraged by the way friends, co-workers, and aquaintances of mine blaspheme my religion. They constantly use the most foul language in combination with God’s holy Name, and Christ’s, and also ridicule the Catholic faith in general.
One such “friend”, actually my cousin (a nominal Presbyterian) even went so far as to sat that Jesus probably had relations with Mary Magdalene, describing it in graphic detail; It outraged me, and I told him to never ridicule my religion again.
Then, one day I gave him a ride, and I have a rear-view mirror rosary and St. Christopher medal. He smirked and put his lighter beneath the crucifix. I batted his arm away and told him I was tired of him mocking my Faith. He went on to say, “Why are you Catholic anyway? All Catholic are criminals.”
Anyway, nobody respects my Faith, and there is so much anti-Catholicism where I am, and there is just so much pressure for me to give up my Faith (Which I will never do.)
So, I’m really bad off right now… sorry I’m rambling.
