I’m so discouraged now… 😦

I’m 19 and have been trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with my life. I currently am a construction/lead abatement worker, and I somewhat like it, and it pays well.

But, as I’ve gotten through one spiritual struggle after another, finally to the point where I am convinced of the Catholic Church’s claim of being God’s true Church on Earth, but… 😦

I really love the traditional Anglican Church I attend, and I’m afraid to tell my priest that I’m an Anglo-Papist. At one time I was attending RCIA classes, but it was just not deep enough, like the Catechism I was reading. And plus, the Anglican church’s liturgy and Mass were so beautiful and traditional compared to the local Catholic Mass. 😦

On top of that, there is so much pressure from my Protestant family not to go all the way and become Roman Catholic (It’s bad enough for them that I’m Anglican).

And also, at work, co-workers are constantly telling me that I’m hypocritical. My boss, with whom I am actually close friends with, tells me that, while he does believe the Catholic Church is the original Church of God, no-one is capable of living up to God standards, and, therefore, God will overlook everyone sins, just so long as they follow the Golden Rule, etc… 😦

And then, worstly, I am constantly enraged by the way friends, co-workers, and aquaintances of mine blaspheme my religion. They constantly use the most foul language in combination with God’s holy Name, and Christ’s, and also ridicule the Catholic faith in general. 😦

One such “friend”, actually my cousin (a nominal Presbyterian) even went so far as to sat that Jesus probably had relations with Mary Magdalene, describing it in graphic detail; It outraged me, and I told him to never ridicule my religion again.

Then, one day I gave him a ride, and I have a rear-view mirror rosary and St. Christopher medal. He smirked and put his lighter beneath the crucifix. I batted his arm away and told him I was tired of him mocking my Faith. He went on to say, “Why are you Catholic anyway? All Catholic are criminals.”

Anyway, nobody respects my Faith, and there is so much anti-Catholicism where I am, and there is just so much pressure for me to give up my Faith (Which I will never do.)

So, I’m really bad off right now… sorry I’m rambling.

im sure the theif in the night would respect all religions and most men BUT he would follow the best religion inoto battle with him against such things as the beast. for their is only one religion that makes mountains out of moe hills and thats catholic and in revelations thats where the people will run to they will hide under the mountain and pray for death and death will not find them.

i would presume are you wanting to be in battle with jesus and on his side or under the mountain praying for death.

there are choices

Um, sorry Bullfrog, but you have a way of going completely over (or under) my head.

I’m sorry, I really have no clue what your talking about, or how this relates to the OP.

i basically believe the pope speaks in the name of jesus before he returns. the most respected and well known religious person on the planet. the most powerful chuch on the planet. the most talked about religion. the first religion as i have read. many governments look onto the pope for guidence.

i hope this helps

Don’t feel bad, it went over my head also.😃
I personally don’t hang around with people who do not like me or my religion. I certainly do not give them rides in my car. They can respect me for who I am or they can walk.
Sorry to give such a simplistic answer, but thats the way I float my boat!👍

I totally understand working in a place where people hate the Church … my husband and I are in academia. To everyone here, we might seem pretty liberal, but to all the people we work with, we’re howling conservatives who hate women, love hierarchy, and want to oppress people.
The two of us, and one other Catholic, had to “set straight” a prof who voiced blatant lies about the Church in the middle of a graduate seminar. If he had said the same thing about Muslims, they would have tried to revoke his tenure.
It’s hard to talk to people who constantly throw up the Inquisition and Galileo. Most people are shocked that Catholics accept the theory of evolution. We try to educate in a spirit of patience and love …

I go through the same. In my job everybody has left Catholic Church (including my brother) and they laugh about it. I feel so depressed…

Remember our Lord’s words

St. Mark Ch 13
11 And when they shall lead you and deliver you up, be not thoughtful beforehand what you shall speak; but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye. For it is not you that speak, but the Holy Ghost. 12 And the brother shall betray his brother unto death, and the father his son; and children shall rise up against the parents, and shall work their death. 13 And you shall be hated by all men for my name’s sake. But he that shall endure unto the end, he shall be saved.
St. Matthew Ch 10
32 Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. 33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. 35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And as a man’s enemies shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it. 40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
I feel bad for you, but we were told this was how it would be.

Stand up for your faith, and you will be ridiculed, but your rewards will be in Heaven.

Welcome Home! You’re there spiritually, now find a good parish and swim the Tiber 👍

God Bless

Matariel, thanks be to God for your faith. I know it’s so hard . . . While I don’t think I’ve met someone so horribly anti-Catholic as you have, I’ve been through somewhat similar situations. Sometimes I feel isolated and completely alone except for God, because of knowing how the people around me would reject my faith if they knew about it, and those most important to me who do know about it have rejected it. And some of them mock it and attack it.

This experience will result in a far stronger spiritual life for you, once you’ve come through it, though. Be strong; pray for strength. I will pray for you too. Go to the Lord in prayer when the pain of this grows and pray, or perhaps go to a Healing Service (something I’m considering doing myself). You are being united with Christ’s sufferings, being made more fully one with him. It is a painful blessing, but a blessing nonetheless, for it can produce increased devotion to God and fruits of the Spirit.

The closer we become to God, the more the evil one will step up his attacks. That is what is happening to you. Stand firm and resist these attacks. Always defend our Lord, but sometimes you have to shake the dust off of your sandals.

I am blessed to work in a Catholic hospital and don’t run into this very often. My workplace also has a strong harrassment policy in place, if things get out of hand, and it is enforced. So my workplace is pretty peaceful in that regard.

However, I have run into this sort of thing, and I think the best answer is “This conversation is OVER,” and walk away from the situation. Only if the behavior becomes a persistant problem would I report it. Many workplaces have such a policy if it gets to the point of harrassment, but most people just want to test you and see your reaction. And those who are really your friends won’t act like this, so it’s no great loss if you lose the “friendship” of some people, IMHO.

Nobody said being a Catholic was going to be easy…

You know what I do?

I play the “Glad Game” like Pollyanna does in those books by Eleanor H. Porter. Be glad that you have the chance to prove your loyalty and faith in the Church! Whenever bad happens…like what you are talking about…look for the good and be thankful!👍

Goodluck, and I’ve gotta say, the things you hear from my fellow students at Catholic schools…

I have never had a problem with anyone downing my faith, but we really never talk about faith at work. We mostly are working and talk about things at work, or our families and kids.

I am sorry you are having problems. You need to not bother what others think, do what feels right in your heart .

Blessings

Please don’t be depressed by those around you who behave badly.

I wear a Holy Face Cross and when I hear a person use the name of Jesus or God in a blaspemous way I touch my Cross because on the front in Latin is inscribed:

Blessed Be the Name of Jesus

and on the back is inscribed:

Satan Begone

and I say the words to myself.

If you just say these short phrases to yourself when others speak outrageous comments about our Dear Lord, you will feel much better.

And, also say a prayer to St. Michael the Archangel and ask him to send the devils away.
