Stereotypes or not…as if fact or not the proof is in the pudding and I am sticking with the EVIDENCE I have witnessed and experienced FIRST HAND…Hecklers from the back of the crowd can bark all they want…jaw flapping runs contrary to action. As for me and my household we will serve the lord by action and then use words if necessary.

EWTN is a non-profit evangelization organization that is for the betterment of the world…the mentality that supplying brochure space for them is giving them free advertisement makes me wonder what is going on in some places.

Jesus said go and make disciples of the whole world…EWTN is doing just that…heaven forbid we treat it like we are what was the word…“trolling?”. You have got to be kidding! I would bet that EWTN has brought more people to the church than any other evangelization organization.

Remember the limits of your ‘first hand’ experience before making out the rest of the world is the same way.

Selected by who? Certainly not yourself since you are in the liturgy business…I am confident that you keep far far away from the selection or rejection of parish infromation rack materials.

A liturgist isn’t any more qualified to take part in such a “ministry” as any other joe.

If the Brochure rack is “controlled” by committee I am sure you woulld have NO problem with EWTN types infiltrating the ranks of committee to allow them.

This is PRECISELY what happened in my parish. The parish council, and nearly every committee is “manned” by us “EWTN” types. This has resulted in shedding ourselves of OCP and added adoramus…a rack full of EWTN and Catholic answers materials.

Along with the progessives leaving so has the empty confessional. Things that hadn’t happened in decades Like adoration, Eucharistic processions and vespers along with long lines at the confession have slowly made a comeback. The altar rail is being considered for Re-installation and the altar girls are down to 2. But the altar server corps is busting at the seams…

Along with this has come a pretty strong anti-abortion movement that involves prayer at clinics and the opening of a local birthright clinic…the fruit seems to be much more plentiful.
There is no committee so to speak. The parish has a budget and orders materials to place in the racks. I really don’t participate in the ordering; I assure you there is no “agenda”, political or otherwise; the staff member who does the ordering finds meditation guides and prayer books that are meaningful to her and stocks the book racks with them. Occasionally a parishioner will present something and we will allow it.

The issue is really about keeping the book racks FREE of agenda’s - whether they be far left or far right.

As I have already said, if I had a nickel for every piece of FutureChurch literature that we have purged …

Every progressive that I have met…HATES EWTN…

The progressive movement is dying and EWTN is facilitating the death.

I SAY…:amen:

Also I say welcome home (1 year and 9 months late). Would it be safe to say that the wonderful existence of EWTN played a part in your return? If so YAHOOOOO! One point for the good guys!!!👍
Personally, I think the “progressive” movement is dying through attrition. It is so wishy-washy, feel-good and shallow that people lose their motivation for staying in the church. That and they are contracepting and aborting themselves out of existence.

While this ancient heresy will never completely vanish, its influence will continue to ebb.

But boy they sure do know how to make noise.

Go EWTN! 👍

Is it fair to assume you think EWTN has an agenda? If so…
Could you give some concrete examples of EWTN’s agendas?

Could you share with us anything you think EWTN is doing that may damage the prospect of a soul going to heaven?

Are not far left and Far right political terms?

I see that you used Call to Action as an example implying they are the opposite end of the spectrum from, say, EWTN…does that mean you believe EWTN is far “right” (your term)

If so what is “far right” in relation to orthodoxy?

If my assumptions are correct you seem to be implying that EWTN has an agenda. Forgive me if my assumption is wrong.

Didn’t Jesus had an agenda too?..doesn’t the church have an agenda.?..isn’t it the Christian duty to have an “agenda” that is to spread the gospel to all nations.

Is EWTN just too darn Catholic?

Remember the limits of your ‘first hand’ experience before making out the rest of the world is the same way.
Yeah I am sure its just somthing in the water here.

based on the the animosity towards orthodoxy I see on this board by some I am going to have to agree with you that the rest of the world UNFORTUNATELY isn’t the same way it is here.

Long confession lines are good right?

Homilies warning against the intrinsic evil of artificial
contraception are good…right?

I don’t allow EWTN to be watched in my house.

It is not ‘too Catholic’.

It may be fine for some but not for others.

There is plenty of animosity to go around to all areas of orthodoxy within the Church.

Just as there are plenty of good topics for homilies and yet long lines for confession are not necessarily good - thankfully folks can make appointments or go to any parish anywhere - not just the home parish on a Saturday.

Almost anyone here could have written that post for you. And I guess if one were to ask why, you would offer something with substance for an answer??

another Gem.

EM, are you really Catholic by choice?

There are no reasons for ‘long lines’ – there is time for private appointments and a greater sense of freedom to go to shrines or other parishes for confession.

The days of only going to your home parish are long over (along with that is being able to spot your Catholic neighbors there at the same time).

Some folks like having a ‘regular’ confessor who may or may not be scheduled for when one has to ‘line up’ or may have changed parishes.

There are many many reasons to not see ‘long lines’ or why those lines are not necessarily good.

Remember, “Ministry and Liturgy” is not affiliated with the Church so to speak. It is it’s own publication, I believe. So, you are bound to find different viewpoints. I don’t agree with tons of what is in there either.

I take exception that Adoramus is faithful to the Church. I have seen them blatently disregard norms and laws on their “pet issues”. Ex. the view that Eucharistic ministers cannot be used. Like it or not, they can be. Now, argue all day long on whether they are used properly in this country, are overused, or whatever. But don’t spread falsehoods that they are not licit. They consistantly go FARTHER than the Church. Very much the same as I have seen it said that with some groups, “you give them an inch, and they take a mile”.
Evidently, Francis Cardinal Arinze doesn’t agree with your opinion, as he’s been very supportive of Adoremus, to the point of having blessed their offices (as I pointed out in an earlier thread). Neither you nor I are of Cardinal Arinze’s liturgical caliber, nor are we of Pope Benedict’s, for that matter.

How “much further than the Church” does Adoremus actually go? The issue of EMHC-overuse was addressed by Cardinal Arinze at teh Adoremus website. Even he says they’re overused. But, since his comments appear on Adoremus, perhaps you would not consider their merits. Frankly, many things that Adoremus has brought attention to are now, slowly, being addressed under Pope Benedict’s blessed reign.

How “much further than the Church” does EWTN actually go? For esteemed Church leaders like the former Cardinal Ratzinger, Cardinal Arinze, Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, Dr. Scott Hahn and others to appear on EWTN, there’s got to be something viable at the network.

Elisha, you say that EWTN is not allowed in your house. So, I guess the Papal Masses, the Papal Penitential Service and, I supposed Pope Benedict’s visit to the USA will also be off-limits at your place as well. Why would you deprived yourself of hearing what the Holy Father has to say? Why not witness a beautiful liturgy and perhaps learn something from Pope Benedict when it comes to the proper celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?

In another thread, PGA noted that there are people in certain circles who don’t like Adoremus. Well, I can tell you this: keep hanging around in circles and you’ll wind up going in circles, with no clear direction whatsoever.

You might want to express that to our Holy Father. Evidently, there were 20,000 people jammed into St. Peter’s Basilica for a Penitential Service with individual Confession. The lines were huge and Pope Benedict, himself, was hearing confessions.

Oh, but, I forgot. You don’t watch EWTN. I don’t say it in sarcasm. I just find it rather sad that you are closing the door to something that is rather special. To witness the people going to Confession all over the Basilica and allowing the grace of Divine Mercy into their souls is something special. To not even want to watch that simply because of a prejudice against EWTN is very sad. The Holy Father, himself, is setting the example on how to correctly conduct a Penitential Service. Surely that is worth watching.👍

I find this kind of comment silly on a good day.
Hmm - visiting the Vatican, special event, hmmmm pope hearing confessions hmmmmm

I wonder if they get those kinds of numbers on days when he is not hearing confessions himself…🤓 :hmmm: :doh2:

I don’t have voyeuristic tendencies - not watching others line up for such a thing is no loss here nor am I involved in conducting such services.

There are no reasons for ‘long lines’ --** there is time for private appointments and a greater sense of freedom to go to shrines or other parishes for confession.**.
The underlined above is a dying mantra from a dying failed progressive movement. I rarely hear it anymore…

There is no reason for a long confession line? Wow!

My confessor hears confession for 2.5 hours on saturday afternoons…the last time I went to confession there was 35 people in line. It is foolish to think that a priest could schedule 35 appointments in a week.

My mothers parish which has been ruined by progressives and has a weekly attendance of about 50 (grey haired feminists) has NO CONFESSIONAL or regular confession time…which is a violation of church law.

Again for those against confession…or I mean “long confession lines” I would like to remind you that the panging you hear is the death knells of the failed progressive movement. THe McBrien and Kung barge is sinking and sinking fast…

Not saying you are progressive but a good progressive would draw the conclusion that a long confessional line is a good example of “community” er that is if you would just remove the stale idea of having a priest present and penitents could confess to each other…of course not personal sins…(becuase there is no such thing) but certainly the sins of society…like global warming and baby seal killing and …the depravity of womans healthcare…

Rosalie,

Keep on doing what you are doing. You are building the Kingdom by putting EWTN materials in your parish church – not tearing it down. 👍

While you are at it – see if you can get a couple of extra copies of Adoremus in your parish vestibule too. Nothing wrong with this apostolate nor its publication.

God will reward your fidelity and loyalty to His Church. He said:
*"Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. *
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me." (Mt. 5:10-11) 🙂

Well done good and faithful servant! 😃

Kev

Are you (mis)using my post for your favorite rant or are you accusing me of something I have neither said nor implied?
