Anyone know where I can find either online or in print an English translation of St. Robert Bellarmine’s Disputationes de Controversiis Christianae Fidei?
Thanks
Thanks
Right. And that’s a pity, since from my fairly brief examination of the work it seems pretty impressive and thorough. I think it needs to be translated–once I get the two editing/translating projects I’m currently working on off my plate (which will be years, no doubt) I may approach Ignatius and see if there would be interest. Chemnitz’s Examination of the Council of Trent, one of the more thorough works of apologetics on the Protestant side, has been translated–it’s time someone did the same for Bellarmine.AFAIK it has never been translated into English.
I’m dubious about this. The supposed English translation entry has no info on the translator and the title is still in Latin. Furthermore, note that another copy (also with no direct indication of any language other than Latin) is given as being in Ganda. The chances of this work having been translated into this particular African language are pretty small, though of course it can’t be ruled out (maybe there was some Catholic missionary in Uganda with lots of time on his hands and a desire to refute Protestant competitors). I suspect that this entry is a mistake. The other references you give contain a reference to the Latin work and the phrase “English translation,” but you apparently did not bother to check that they were speaking about English translations of that particular work–none of the entries I looked at were talking about that.Yes, it has been translated into english, simply google worldcat, go to a worldcat search page and enter the title.

The work is a lot larger than a hardcover book.
