Divine Mercy Chaplet

I am planning on reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet this Lent.Am I correct in my understanding that the recitation begins on Good Friday,continuing until Divine Mercy Sunday?:confused:

Are you thinking of the Divine Mercy Novena?

I do both daily, if at all possible I do them at the 3 o’clock hour, Today I was out so I just said the 3 o’clock prayer and will do the novena and chaplet at bed time.

This is the 3 o’clock prayer

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls
and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.
O Fountain of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy,
envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

O Blood and Water,
which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus
as a fountain of mercy for us,
I trust in You.

I have a particular devotion to the Divine Mercy 😃 :byzsoc:

That must be it.I just remember watching the Chaplet being recited on EWTN,during Holy Week.I came upon it a few days too late to participate last year.Is the novena,beginning on Good Fridsy a necessary part of the process of confession,receiving the Eucharist,in order to obtain plenary indulgences on DM Sunday?
 
Hi,

Yes the chaplet is recited daily for nine days to complete the novena, and this starts on Good Friday. Jesus requested His own intentions for Saint Faustina to pray for (I usually pray these).

Day one – The souls of all mankind
Day two – The souls of priests and religious
Day three – The souls of the faithful
Day four – The souls of those who do not yet know Jesus (but will come to know Him)
Day five – The souls of the separated brethren (His wounds heal as they return)
Day six – The meek and humble souls of children
Day seven – The souls of those who glorify His mercy
Day eight – The souls in purgatory
Day nine – The souls of those who have become lukewarm (Jesus felt the strongest revulsion from these souls during His Passion)

Also, there is a plenary indulgence (all sins forgiven and all temporal punishment in purgatory wiped away) for those who attend confession and communion on Divine Mercy Sunday.

Although, there is disagreement about the times, it’s believed the sixth hour is noon, and the ninth hour is 3 PM.

I’ve never really liked most of the images of the Divine Mercy and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I went on a search and found out that it’s probably because the popular image isnt the original. Here is the original that St Faustina had gotten drawn up and it’s my very favorite image Jesus as the Divine Mercy. He has a beautiful, masculine and gentle features.

I have never been keen on this image and prefer the popular one.

Faustina did not like the “original” image herself in fact she disliked it so much that the sight of it made her cry.

What makes you say that? I am reading her biography now, and it says nothing of the sort.

It says so in her diary in her own words.

I don’t know which image is the “original” maybe after she cried about it we never even got to see that one.

But if I remember rightly she took, her disappointment, to Jesus in prayer and he said not to get too caught up in the details.

After all no human artist could really capture Jesus fully could he? 😉
