It seems that Pope Francis senses an urgency about proclaiming divine mercy as did St John Paul II. With a growing persecution of Christianity around the world, of which Francis referred yesterday, and a previous mention last year about the special time of mercy we have been in for “30 years”, we could ask ourselves what this means in terms of salvation history and our era. Perhaps one aspect of the message of Saint Faustina that is kept a little quiet is that which relates to the second coming of Jesus. Stephen Walford, in his book “Heralds of the Second Coming” (forward by Cardinal Ivan Dias) relates a quote from the Diary of Blessed Michael Sopocko in which St. Faustina, on her death bed told him that he must do everything to spread this devotion because “the world will not exist much longer and God still wants to give graces to people before the end”
Perhaps it is this sense of urgency that the Holy Spirit has instilled in the recent popes (as is shown in this book) that should urge us to invoke the great mercy of God now more than ever.
