*Many Catholics (and Christians in general) have no real knowledge of just how significant Divine Mercy Sunday really is for their souls and for the sake of the world. Divine Mercy Sunday was granted by Pope John Paul II to the Universal (catholic) Church on the date of Sister Faustina’s canonization to sainthood, which was April 30, 2000. It is important for us to realize that a day dedicated to God’s Mercy has never existed throughout the 2,000 years of Church history until the year 2000. This truly is a “big deal.” On Divine Mercy Sunday Christians can ask for grace for anything in their lives (which will be granted when it is in accord with the will of God), so long as they have gone to confession and then receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion) on Divine Mercy Sunday. God’s mercy and grace will be showered upon us that day if we meet those simple requirements.

While it is Saint Faustina that has brought the knowledge of this Divine Mercy into the Church and into the world, the actual gift comes from Jesus and it is Jesus that extends His great fountain of mercy and grace on this amazing Sunday. This feast day is intentionally positioned to be closely associated with Easter Sunday and our redemption. *

Please spread the word about Divine Mercy Sunday, and consider the following promises made by Jesus and found in Saint Faustina’s diary:

*“Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire life as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior.” (Diary, 1075)

“Do whatever is within your power to spread devotion to My mercy. I will make up for what you lack. Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill it with peace.” (Diary, 1074)*

As an add-on…it amazes me how often going to confession is a stumbling block for people.

Anyone else doing the Divine Mercy Novena?

A friend suggested this at church on Good Friday and I am glad she did. I usually remember too late.
 
Divine Mercy Sunday is really important to me, because it was a summary of Saint Faustina’s diary that brought my faith back.

They were to be said the 9 days leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday, but reading it will give a good idea of what Jesus wants and I believe they can still be applied to every day prayers.

I told my 9 and 10 yr old girls I would like to go with them to the Divine Mercy prayer at 3 PM today at a neighboring parish.
pray that they will want to come with me!
We went last year together.

Yes, I’ve done the Divine Mercy novena, and managed to get to confession before Mass as well.

There’s also a plenary indulgence available today for those who either

a) take part in venerating an image of the Divine Mercy in public (ie if your Church does so as a public thing) or

b) in Church, in front of the exposed Blessed Sacrament or the Tabernacle, pray a Creed, an Our Father, and an invocation such as ‘Merciful Heart of Jesus, I trust in You!’

Of course for these plenary indulgences the usual conditions of confession, communion and detachment from all mortal and venial sin also apply.

Just remember that you can’t do a twofer, though. So if you confess prior to Communion today specifically, then you won’t get a plenary indulgence for doing the other things. However, you will get a partial indulgence, so they’re worth doing anyway.
