Its the universal prayer of the world, its valid everywhere, though small things would vary from country to country, Mabuhay!Hi all,
What’s the complete list of countries that approve either “Divine Office” or “Daily Prayer from the Divine Office”? I know there’s England and Wales, Australia, New Zealand, but what are the others? In particular, is it approved for the Philippines?
Thanks! However by “Divine Office” I mean the one published by Collins, which is not approved for liturgical use in the US. We in the Philippines use the US translation, but I would like to know if the Collins edition lists the Philippines as one of those permitted to use it also for liturgical use.Its the universal prayer of the world, its valid everywhere, though small things would vary from country to country, Mabuhay!![]()
I’m in Australia and I use that version. It doesn’t however list the Philipines. Thanks! Hi Twiz,I’m in Australia and I use that version. It doesn’t however list the Philipines.
in private prayer for lay persons, we are free to use any edition, which is a huge temptation since the psalms are translated so much better in the UK edition. For public recitation, and for use of those bound to pray the LOTH daily (clergy, consecrated religious) in the US and other countries where the US translation is used, that is the only option.Hi Twiz,
Thanks. That’s all I need. Gotta stick with the US edition then.
Are they? [post=1146886]This poster[/post] says the UK edition uses the The Grail (1963) psalms, which is the same as acknowledged on the copyright page of my CBP ICEL Christian Prayer?in private prayer for lay persons, we are free to use any edition, which is a huge temptation since the psalms are translated so much better in the UK edition.
I believe I have read that the Latin *Liturgia Horarum *is always and everywhere acceptable too.for use of those bound to pray the LOTH daily (clergy, consecrated religious) in the US and other countries where the US translation is used, that is the only option.
Hi puzzleannie,I have the current 4 volume US set, and a UK set in 3 vols, Collins, 1974 the divine Office, no psalms source listed on copyright page, but acknowledgements in the back list all the sources for scripture. ICEL versions of canticles are also in the back of the book. the Grail psalter is cited, with explanatory notes about alterations to the texts. Scripture cites are Jerusalem bible 1966, RSV and TEV (with more explanatory notes on sources).
