There is illegal, and there is accepted norms. The accepted norms of society then and now is that a 30-something year old does not marry a 14 year old. Especially when the 30-something year old is already married!
It is wrong, all around, and I suggest that if you believe otherwise you should question the morals you have been taught by your church. As it is indeed foul.

Read the whole story. Pilate said Jesus had done nothing wrong and told the Jewish judges to take Him and deal with Him themselves, as their problem had to do with Jewish law, not Roman law.
It is the fact that Christ claimed He was the Messiah, King of all the world, that the Jewish judges wanted Him executed.
What they told Pilate is that their laws would not allow them to execute Him themselves, so they brought Jesus to Pilate and told Pilate that Christ claimed Himself as King, hoping that Pilate would pronounce treason and have Him killed.
John18:
37 So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. 16 For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he again went out to the Jews and said to them,** "I find no guilt in him**.

As strange as it may seem, on the first season of Little House on the Praire, Mary Ingalls had a boy interested in her. No one had any qualms with her marrying him if love came into the picture. I think that to look back in time is a marvelous thing. But we tend to get into trouble when we present a presentist case. No one would have batted an eyelash if JS married a fourteen year old girl as a single man. But of course in this case, Fanny Alger left JS when her parents departed and she married soon later a man. She was not very old as I understand it when the wedding took place.

Dude, “Little House on the Prairie” does not impart any kind of validity to the escapades of Joseph Smith. You’re talking about an older man who had 33 wives, as young as 14 years-old, 11 of which were already married to other men. That’s not “marvelous,” it’s warped. In fact, if we must reference television programs, I am strongly reminded of “The Twilight Zone” when I read some of the comments in here attempting to defend that behavior.

Christ was executed for crimes he did not commit (and he was perfect) yet it seems many here want to condemn a good thought imperfect man for things he did not do.

That is not true at all. But comparisons can be made. There are many on death row that are innocent and some have been found to be innocent and released. Innocent people are condemned to death all the time and certainly JS was innocent and did not deserve to be murdered for crimes that did not warrent the death sentenced imposed on him by the mobs.So now Joseph Smith is Christ. And Mormons wonder why others believe they worship Joseph Smith.

JS was sealed to Fanny but it was not a marriage. She eventually left with her parents and married soon after and eventually had nine children. No one denied her the marriage and she wasn’t tried for bigomy or for having two husbands because two husbands did not exit. Only one did and that was the one she married.

baring my typo that’s pretty clear. I never said he was. Perhaps the reason people get such incorrect notions is because people jump to the most absurd conclusions when they are apparently not paying attention.
The point in comparing JS and Christ was that they were both accused of many awful things.
Many attempt to discredit a prophet because of his “sins” whither real or made up. Yet the Bible clearly shows that even the only perfect being to live on this earth was accused of many “sins”. In the case of Paul he was guilty of many “sins”. So why is it that only a modern prophet is unqualified becuse of his “sins”?

Jesus did not sin. That’s a big difference. The comparison to Joseph Smith is repugnant.
With Joseph Smith it’s not any one thing, it’s an array of things. Taken as a whole, including the modern DNA evidence (dragging back to the topic) the entire Mormon business is simply not credible. Joseph Smith thought he could dream up a new religion for some unknown reason, no doubt unaware that later developments would show it to be the sham that it is. End of story.
I believe this thread has gone beyond it’s logical conclusion.

I am wondering though how many sins could Paul be accused of before he would no longer be a viable Apostle?

Actually, anyone with a rudimentary understanding of biology could reach the conclusion that Mormon claims about Hebrews in the Americas are the joke. But I understand the desperate need some people have to cling to the story.
And then we have yet another diversionary tactic to distract from the topic.

Both chosen by Christ to lead his church for a time.
Both held the keys of the kingdom of God.
Both where unlearned men by the worlds standards.
Both saw and spoke with Christ.
Both heard the voice of the Father proclaim the divinity of His Son.
Both personally wrote scripture.
Both where killed by those who rejected God’s word
I’m sure taking more than 5 min to think about their lives we could find a lot more in common, but I think that list covers the main points.
