Do any of you seminarians or to-be seminarians do this?

Have any of you been to a “Come and See Weekend” at the seminary? I’m going to one in three weeks. I’m really excited about it! It should be an experience.
Twice it was great, and BTW seminary is great so far really busy.

I was blessed to get into a 2 year program so I will graduate in 2 years and then go to the theologat or graduate school for seminarians.

I am taking Latin (classical 😦 )
I am taking Old Testament
I am Taking Catholic Profession of Faith (favorite class so far)
And I am taking Ancient Philosophy.
I am in the Schola (choir)
I am doing library work
Play basketball 2 times a week.
We have a big football game and bonfire once a year and we play the rival Louisiana Seminary Notre Dame, my school St Joesph has won it 4 straight years, we are not breaking that streak this year.

Its really great

My Diocease has me come a do thing from time to time, This semester sometime maybe twice I will be telling my vocation story to kids or to a Church. Details still have to be worked out.

Making some great new Brothers in Christ (we are more then friends)

So I’m loving seminary

one last thing my prayer life went through the roof starting here, at seminary atleast the lower seminary they are really strict when it comes to prayer you must be at Morning and Evening prayer and Mass. Same thing with Class they are strict. If you start to miss things its a huge red flag on your formation record. With Classes 3 unexcused absences is an F and your kicked out the Class.

Its a great blessing though, If you are considering a vocation to the priesthood, I strongly encourage when you are old enough to enter the Seminary do it, of course if its God’s will, but don’t let fear of the seminary, or fear of missing out on things hold you from entering. Its a great blessing and even if you never become a priest it will change your life.

I’ve been in here for 3 weeks and I already see the Spirit moving in me and forming me.

Lucky you!!!

I’m going on a discernment retreat in Denver at St. John Vianney on the 25th. I am really excited for it!

Sounds awesome. Next weekend we are saying goodbye to our first seminarian ever in our parish. I’m excited for him, and maybe this will have us get a seminarian parish visit, which is when the seminarians come and celebrate Mass one weekend with us. We’ve never had that. I’ll probably be luck #2 if no one else goes.

It was funny. I went to a retreat this weekend called Into the Wild, which is a retreat focusing around Catholic men spirituality. My vocations director was with us the whole weekend. I don’t know if any of you heard of orienteering, but it’s basically a time where you follow a compass in the woods to find stuff. Sort of like a scavenger hunt. So, my vocations director was on my team. The whole thing was a disaster (but hilarious)…I fell like ten times like my usual clumsy self, and my vocations director just had such a fun time seeing me fall! Haha. Well, anyways, he was talking with this other guy on our team who happened to be in a rigorous military program for a year (it didn’t sound fun in the least), and my vocations director said that he’ll send me there my first year of seminary. This is me: “Please don’t!”

Another thing happened where I got stuck in mud, and he had to pull me out.

A very fun and interesting weekend. I spent so many hours with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in adoration. I was said when I had to pull away and leave. Definately a highlight of the trip!

Lucky you! (Again!)

A friend of mine just started working for The King’s Men, the men’s group that does the Into The Wild retreats, and he says that they’re amazing. I’d go, but they’re all on the east coast, and I’m here in Colorado. Did you meet a guy by the name of Dave DiNuzzo there? He’s the guy I’m talking about.

I’m sorry that I didn’t answer your question. I was just skimming through and noticed that I hadn’t answered. Yes. I did meet Dave there. He’s such a nice guy!

I’m getting STOKED for my retreat next weekend at the seminary. I leave next Saturday morning. I won’t be able to sleep Friday night!

I get to head up to Denver this Sunday for a retreat myself.

I’m glad you got to meet Dave. He is a pretty cool guy. Did he tell you about his website at all? Check it out, it has helped me a TON. truemanhood.com/

You know how most people daydream about their marriage, especially women? Ya, well, I daydream about ordination day.

This excites me so much:

youtube.com/watch?v=sTtZhNijFgc

I often daydream about hearing confessions, giving Holy Communion, giving a homily, etc. I read in To Save a Thousand Souls that daydreaming about these things is typically what a man who has a true calling daydreams about.

Anyways, thinking about ordination, I think I’d be a hysterical wreck. So much pressure! How would I sleep that Friday night? Then thinking about all the people that would be there. :hypno:

This would be me the whole Mass: :bighanky:
Really? This is great news, as I daydream constantly about the Priesthood. Now I’m more confident about it. I know it’s not foolproof, but it’s enough to get me excited. 😛

I would be in complete fear at my first Mass. Knowing my luck, I would say Mass in front of seven hundred people, in which I’m afraid of speaking. 😛

That’s interesting, I am going to the college seminary of my Archdiocese next weekend (Fri-Sun) It’s not really a retreat for me though, it was planned between me and the rector. I am hoping to get moving on the application process after.

How was your retreat? 😃

I have to be up and early tomorrow at 5:30 to leave my house by 6:00 to head off to the seminary for the weekend. I’m really excited to go! The weather is horrible here this weekend, though. It’s supposed to be about 47 degrees and rainy tomorrow, so I guess that we won’t be doing much outdoors, which bites. It should be an interesting weekend, but I keep thinking about Sunday when I’ll have to leave. I know that I won’t want to. I’ll have to make the most out of my time tomorrow.

Good luck! It sounds like you are having a wonderful time.

It was pretty fun! I met one guy there who is a senior just like me who turned his application in that day, which was like 6 months early or something like that. We got a holy hour, adoration, a few talks by seminarians, Mass, free lunch, it was a blast. I want to see if I can do something like you’re doing. The Archdiocese of Denver has 4 discernment retreats total this Fall, and since I’m 18 I can go to both the high school ones, and the men’s ones. My dad is great friends with the vocations director for that diocese, so maybe he could get me up there for a weekend.

May God look over all of you. It is so exciting and awesome to see the amount of people in these forums, so in love with God and his Son. I wish I had been given a tongue of eloquence to say something more that would give your awesome faith and love more justice. I can offer prayers for you that you do heal hundreds or thousands of souls that long for the peace and forgiveness only God can give. I hope your emergency Baptism will save that should from the fires of hell and every Baptism lights a fire that the evil one will never put out. That those who stray will be welcomed back by you and that you give them the forgiveness they need, and the peace God can grant them. I pray that you treat every Mass as it if were your last Mass and teach other’s to do same in the REAL Presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I will Pray this if you would pray for my son James, he is nine years old and has already told me, “You know Daddy, Father Bill has a great job. He get’s to love people and he get’s paid for it. Can I do what Father Bill does when I grow up?” I pray that God gives me the wisdom to teach James and continue answering his question. So that I may foster his vocation wherever it may lead. Until then, I am so proud of his love for God and his family.
May you all be blessed and thank you so much for the service and the example you give to so many people.

I am still at the seminary about to go to Morning Prayer and Mass followed by a brunch and then head home. My weekend was awesome! Saturday morning when we arrived, we had Mass and Morning Prayer, and then we had breakfast. Followed by that, we broke up into small groups and had a tour, and then we had small-group discussions. After all that, we had lunch, and then we had three hours of down time. I managed to squeeze a nap in there. After that we had a talk with a newly ordained priest which was AWESOME. There’s something about a newly ordained priest that wants me to be more like him - he’s so humble and joyful. Followed by that talk, we had Evening Prayer and Holy Hour, which again, was AWESOME. The seminarians here have such great faith, and being before Our Lord is always great for me. After that we had a big dinner (one of the seminarians used to own his own restaurant :D).

My bed was so comfortable too, and my room is so big. I slept like a baby last night. I really feel like I’m at home here.

that seminaries schedule sounds a lot like mine lol.

if you came to my seminary for a come and see

the events that you would have to go to that we would also have to go to

would be

saturday morning, prayer and mass

breakfast and lunch

then we all have evening prayer together.

then sunday morning is morning prayer

break

then mass.

I’m sure many seminaries have similar schedules.

Done. Thank you for your very kind words.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one day dreaming about priesthood. I day dream about celebrating the mass, doing confessions, anointing the sick, preaching etc. I think about which Eucharistic prayer I will most often use. Hopefully I can enter seminary the beginning of next year

That’s what I think about a lot too.

There hasn’t been posts in a while, so I am just giving an update on what is happening with me and my vocation:

Things are going well, and I still feel the call. It’s been pretty obvious to me what the Lord wants from me, so I’m just following that. God is still knocking, and I’m still being stubborn.

On the weekend of December 16-18, I will be going to the Paul VI Pastoral Center in Wheeling, WV with the seminarians. We will be busing from the seminary here to Wheeling. It sounds fun! It’s another discernment weekend, and I’m excited. I loved the last one I went to, and I’m looking forward to this.

Good!

I have a question for you guys. Do you go to Confession frequently? I try to make it at least once a month. I started in June of this year, and then missed July, went in August, September, missed October, and just went today.

I find it really helpful in part of the discernment process. Being reconciled to God is vital in this process, obviously.
